The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

The time for midterm exams arrived quickly.

Anning has been busy helping students review in recent days. Besides managing students, she also has four children to take care of at home.

Every night, Anning prepares exercises for the four children based on their academic progress, and also tutors them.

Of course, she doesn’t tutor them in Chinese, but helps with their weaker subjects.

For example, Xiao Lu, who is studying science but struggles the most with physics among all her subjects.

Anning tutors her in physics.

Starting from the freshman curriculum, Anning patiently helps her catch up.

As for Xiao Yishan and Zhao Xiaomeng, their history knowledge is lacking, so Anning also tutors them. Later, she hands over the responsibility of tutoring history to Xiao Yuan.

This makes Xiao Yishan a bit unhappy, as she complains to Anning, ”Mom, how can you let Dad tutor us? My dad...”

Anning laughs, ”What, you think your dad lacks knowledge just because he doesn’t have a degree? I can’t vouch for everything, but your dad’s history knowledge is definitely top-notch. Don’t forget what your dad does; as a Feng Shui Master, how could he not study ancient texts and not know local histories?”

With that, Xiao Yishan is left speechless.

Then, when Xiao Yuan really starts teaching them history, the two kids realize just how knowledgeable Xiao Yuan is about history, and they genuinely settle down to learn from him.

Zhao Xiaocong is struggling with English, so Anning focuses on improving his grades in this subject.

Besides this, Anning’s book is about to be published.

The book has been performing exceptionally well, poised to be a major hit, whether through recommendations, collections, or donations. It’s undeniable she’s the rookie of the year.

Before the new book is published, Anning is stockpiling Chapters, hoping for an explosive success upon release.

She is simply busy — hectic and bustling.

Quickly, the day of the midterm exams arrives.

Coincidentally, it is also the day Anning’s new book is published.

Anning doesn’t wait to watch the results like many authors; she entrusts the task of releasing new Chapters to Xiao Yuan and calmly goes to sleep.

Xiao Yuan waits until midnight and, once he’s sure the new book is published, posts ten Chapters, which is around thirty thousand words.

After releasing the Chapters, he doesn’t care about the results, turns off the computer, and goes to bed.

Early the next morning, Anning is bombarded with numerous messages.

Most are from editors, who are simply overjoyed, urging Anning to quickly check the backend data.

Anning checks the subscription results on her phone.

Looking at them, she feels the results are indeed impressive.

The new Chapters were released around one o’clock, and by six in the morning, there were already over fifty thousand first-time subscriptions.

Bear in mind, the number of people staying up late to read is usually not high; achieving over fifty thousand subscriptions during such hours is exceptionally good. It’s not just about how she compares to other new authors; even compared to veteran authors with several successful works, these subscription numbers are remarkably high.

The editor messages Anning, asking if she has more Chapters. If so, they suggest publishing a few more in the morning. They also predict Anning’s first-day subscriptions might surpass two hundred thousand.

The data is truly getting a bit crazy.

If it actually reaches that number, Anning could earn over ten thousand dollars in commissions for that day, assuming she publishes twenty Chapters.

Anning also feels the numbers are almost unrealistically high.

Upon pondering, she realizes the world values copyright immensely. Despite some lag in entertainment literature, people’s awareness of copyright is very strong, and piracy is virtually nonexistent, enabling a newcomer to achieve such results on the first day of publication.

After a while, the editor talks to Anning about getting a major promotion for the book cover, and encourages her to upload more Chapters to align with the site’s promotion.

Anning has plenty of stockpiled Chapters.

Writing such novels is incredibly easy for her; she barely needs to think and can still write quickly. Coupled with her typing speed, she’s already stockpiled several hundred thousand words.

While replying to the editor, Anning uploads ten more Chapters.

After uploading, she refreshes the backend and discovers the numbers are starting to surge rapidly. Checking the website’s homepage shows she’s indeed featured at the top.

This top feature is the site’s best promotional spot, not only on the homepage but across the site. It means on any page you open, even if it’s another author’s novel, you can see this promotional spot.

Such promotion is bound to drive Anning’s numbers up.

Anning checks the backend and doesn’t care about making breakfast.

Xiao Yuan gets up to busy himself in the kitchen.

As it approaches seven o’clock, Anning sees her first-time subscriptions have already surpassed one hundred thousand, indicating reaching two hundred thousand today will be no problem.

She smiles, finally logging out to have breakfast.

During breakfast, Anning suggests to Xiao Yuan, ”Let’s buy a car for our family.”

All four children look up at Anning, ”Mom, do we have money to buy a car?”

Xiao Yuan chuckles, ”Don’t worry, we definitely have enough for a car. After your midterm exams, we’ll go as a family to choose one.”

The children cheer with excitement.

After breakfast, Anning takes the kids to school, while Xiao Yuan keeps an eye on the backend data for her.

Once Anning reaches school, she becomes immersed with countless tasks, from motivating students to overseeing the exams.

After such a busy day, Anning reflects on how truly challenging a teacher’s job is nowadays.

Due to exams, school finishes a bit earlier today.

When Anning and the kids return home, the younger ones immediately want to compare answers.

Anning smiles, stopping them, ”You’ve taken the exam, don’t overthink it. We can discuss the answers after all exams are over.”

Xiao Yuan calls the children to help set the table.

Tonight’s dinner is extraordinarily sumptuous.

Xiao Yuan prepares six main dishes and a beautifully arranged fruit platter; the four children eat excitedly until they are stuffed.

Anning doesn’t let them return to their rooms to do homework yet; instead, she drags them out for a stroll around the neighborhood. After digesting, she allows them to go back to reading.

With the kids back in their rooms, Xiao Yuan approaches Anning and asks, ”Guess how many first-time subscriptions there are now?”

”Two hundred thousand?”

Anning raises an eyebrow.

Xiao Yuan shakes his head.

Anning pulls out her phone to check for herself.

Upon seeing, she’s genuinely shocked.

She never expected the day’s numbers to balloon like this.

Both she and the editor predicted around two hundred thousand first-time subscriptions, but by nine or nearing ten at night, the subscriptions had soared close to five hundred thousand.

”This is insane.”

Xiao Yuan nods, ”Definitely insane, but it was also expected, considering your book’s incredibly novel theme.”

Amidst serious literature, or dry history novels and fading wuxia novels, Anning’s book is a nerve-wracking delight, too exciting to resist. It attracts not only many male readers but a substantial number of female readers as well, who become hooked once they start reading.

Anning counts on her fingers, ”With this, I could earn over ten to twenty thousand dollars today alone?”

”Congratulations!”

Xiao Yuan laughingly embraces Anning, ”Going forward, I’ll rely on you, Lady.”

”Of course, of course.”
