The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

After Zhang Yilin finished eating, Xiao Yuan cooked dumplings again.

Once the dumplings were cooked, he packed them into food storage containers, making a total of five portions, and asked Zhang Yilin to deliver them to the school.

As Zhang Yilin was leaving, Xiao Yuan pointed to the yard: ”It’s hot now, put on a hat and ride your bike.”

A pink ladies’ bicycle was parked in the yard, with a white hat placed in the basket.

”Got it.”

Zhang Yilin waved goodbye to Xiao Yuan, picked up the bags, and ran out.

On the way to First Middle School, Zhang Yilin’s mood improved significantly.

She felt she didn’t need to be so sad, after all, the Zhang Family hadn’t raised her for long, nor did they have deep affection, being sad for those people wasn’t worth it.

Besides, she had her own family, she had a dad and mom, what was there to be afraid of.

Thinking like this, Zhang Yilin completely let it go.

When she arrived at First Middle School, she directly told the guard she was there to deliver food to Anning.

The guard recognized Zhang Yilin; after all, the girl had transferred not long ago, he also knew she was Teacher Qin’s stepdaughter, so he opened the gate for Zhang Yilin to enter.

Knowing Anning had no class at the moment, Zhang Yilin went to the office to deliver the dumplings, then waited for a while until school was over, catching Xiao Lu and the three little ones on their way to the cafeteria.

The three little ones were especially happy to see Zhang Yilin, especially Xiao Yishan, who almost jumped onto Zhang Yilin: ”Sis, why are you here?”

Zhang Yilin gestured to the dumplings in the bag to the four of them: ”Dad made dumplings, I came to deliver them to you.”

She distributed the dumplings to each of them, and when it came to Xiao Lu, Zhang Yilin indicated: ”Can I talk to you for a bit?”

Xiao Lu nodded: ”Sure, there’s no one in the classroom now, let’s talk there.”

With all the students at the cafeteria, the classroom was definitely empty, so Zhang Yilin went with Xiao Lu into the classroom.

Once inside, Xiao Lu sat at her desk and opened the container to eat dumplings.

Zhang Yilin pulled up a chair and sat next to Xiao Lu. After Xiao Lu ate about ten dumplings, Zhang Yilin said, ”The Zhang Family went bankrupt.”

Xiao Lu was unsurprised: ”I know.”

Zhang Yilin sighed: ”I was kicked out of the house.”

This time, Xiao Lu finally looked up at her.

Zhang Yilin laughed: ”You must be quite surprised, right? After all, I am their biological daughter, how can they be so ruthless... I didn’t see it coming either, I didn’t think they’d show their ugly side so quickly, you know they called me a jinx, a doom star, said it’s all my fault because I came back that they went bankrupt, said I dragged them down, after Mr. Zhang cursed me, he told me to get lost...”

Initially, Zhang Yilin was quite desolate.

But now, cured by Xiao Yuan, she didn’t feel upset about it; she said these words with a smile.

A trace of realization flickered in Xiao Lu’s eyes: ”If you don’t want to laugh, don’t force yourself. You look really ugly when you do.”

”I’m not forcing myself to laugh, I just want to laugh.”

Zhang Yilin said stubbornly.

”I wanted to ask your opinion.”

Xiao Lu furrowed her brow: ”I haven’t been associated with the Zhang Family for a long time.”

”I know.” Zhang Yilin nodded: ”Now that I’m homeless, of course, I want to return and seek refuge with our parents, but you understand how awkward it would be for us to live together given our relationship, I just wanted to ask if you could accept me. If you think it’s okay, I’ll stay, anyway, it’s only a year until the college entrance exam, after I get into college, we won’t see each other much. If you think it’s not okay, I’ll ask Dad to find me a boarding high school, and I can stay there for a year.”

Xiao Lu stopped eating her dumplings.

She looked at Zhang Yilin: ”Am I someone who can’t accommodate others?”

Zhang Yilin shrugged: ”Alright, it’s me judging you unfairly with my petty mind, I’m just a typical petty person, if it were me, I definitely wouldn’t want to always see you in the same house.”

After speaking openly, Zhang Yilin felt more relaxed: ”Although he is my dad too, ultimately you are the biological child, I had to consider your opinion. I don’t want to make things difficult for mom and dad.”

”I also don’t want to make things difficult for mom and dad.”

Xiao Lu said seriously to Zhang Yilin: ”If you go live elsewhere, mom and dad would definitely be worried, anyway you’re quite pitiful now, I’ll be kind-hearted and take you in.”

”Alright, I understand.”

Zhang Yilin stood up, and while Xiao Lu buried her head in continued eating the dumplings, suddenly reached out and messed up Xiao Lu’s hair: ”Acting mature at such a young age, like a little old lady, not cute at all.”

She clasped her hands behind her back and left the classroom.

Xiao Lu frowned: ”You’re so sharp-tongued and sour, even less cute.”

Zhang Yilin turned back and flashed Xiao Lu a smug smile: ”But I’m pretty.”

After she left, Xiao Lu took out a small mirror from her backpack and checked: ”Clearly I am prettier.”

Forget it, Xiao Lu shook her head and continued eating dumplings, dad’s dumplings are so delicious, she wouldn’t waste dumpling-eating time quarreling with Zhang Yilin.

Moreover, during this time, Xiao Lu already understood that her tragedy in her past life couldn’t all be blamed on Zhang Yilin; the greatest responsibility lay with the Zhang Family.

Mrs. Zhang insisted on keeping her, but after taking her in, couldn’t handle the relationship between her and Zhang Yilin, making the sisters really tense.

Also Zhang Hao and Zhang Linfeng, those two are confused too.

If anyone in the family had been sensible, it wouldn’t have caused her and Zhang Yilin to become like enemies.

Thinking about it, both of them were young, just little girls, even if there was some conflict, truly didn’t have any deep-seated malice, wouldn’t wish to harm the other completely.

If it weren’t for the Zhang Family favoring one over the other, or purposely doing things that seemed like sowing discord, she and Zhang Yilin could have lived in harmony.

Like now, she returned to the Xiao Family, Xiao Yuan and Anning never said she was better in any aspect than Zhang Yilin, or that Zhang Yilin was bad in any way; both were trying their best to balance the relationships between the kids, neither spoiling one nor being harsh on another, giving all the kids enough love.

When children receive enough love, they don’t think about contending, don’t think about unfairness, don’t complain in their hearts.

Sometimes, children are like mirrors; you smile at them, and they return your smile, you approach them with anger and complaints, they return the same anger and complaints.

Xiao Lu understood these truths after returning to the Xiao Family and being taught by Xiao Yuan and Anning.

Her slight resentment towards Zhang Yilin also faded at that time.

She truly let go of everything from her past life, thinking about wholeheartedly embracing this precious new beginning.

Since she let go, Zhang Yilin living at the Xiao Family didn’t affect her much.

In the evening while having dinner, Xiao Yuan discussed transferring schools with Zhang Yilin.

Zhang Yilin’s intention was to return to First Middle School, after all, it was close to home.

Xiao Yuan indicated he understood.

Then, the next day Xiao Yuan went to the city, he found Zhang Hao, telling Zhang Hao that since he didn’t want Zhang Yilin, he should truly let go.

Zhang Hao wasn’t willing; after kicking Zhang Yilin out, he still held onto Zhang Yilin’s household registry and other things, he wanted to remain Zhang Yilin’s guardian.

Such shamelessness truly amused Xiao Yuan: ”Mr. Zhang surely knows what I do, right? Aren’t you afraid that if you anger me, I’d really set up a Feng Shui kill bureau at your house, and then your whole family would die without knowing why?”

This word indeed frightened Zhang Hao.

He swallowed hard, stubbornly saying: ”Mr. Xiao wouldn’t do that, right? After all, using Feng Shui bureau to kill, would burden geomancers with guilt.”

”For my daughter, I wouldn’t mind, even if your Zhang Family died out, I could still adopt Yilin.”

Xiao Yuan was utterly unapologetic.

This really scared Zhang Hao.

Zhang Hao extended a hand: ”Give me money, and I’ll stop being Yilin’s guardian, completely severing ties with her.”

Xiao Yuan stood up: ”If that’s the case, Mr. Zhang should wait for true disaster to strike your family.”

With Xiao Yuan’s straightforwardness, Zhang Hao became frightened.

He couldn’t gamble on the lives of his whole family; compared with money, life was definitely more important.

He quickly stood up: ”Just joking, just joking, Mr. Xiao don’t be angry, so shall we go and process the papers now.”
