The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Xie Kun’s legs went weak.

Xie Xu’s face turned pale: ”Master, can you help us lift the curse on my mother?”

Xiao Yuan pondered for a moment.

Xie Xu was sweating with anxiety: ”Master, tell us what you need, and we’ll do everything we can to get it for you.”

Xiao Yuan waved his hand: ”Here’s what we’ll do: when all your family members are here, I’ll take a good look. According to my girl’s perspective, your family might all be cursed. We’ll find a way to lift the curse together, alright?”

Xie Xu understood that this couldn’t be rushed, so he nodded in agreement: ”I trust you.”

Xiao Yuan thought for a moment and then told Xie Xu: ”I’ll call Madam to prepare a few things. If possible, send someone today to fetch them.”

”Okay.”

Xie Xu quickly agreed.

Xiao Yuan called Anning in front of Xie Xu: ”Ningning, I’ve prepared the things I mentioned to you. The Xie Family will send someone to pick them up.”

”Okay.”

Anning replied.

Xiao Yuan hung up the phone and said to Xie Xu: ”When sending someone over, it’s best if you prepare something perishable, and do it as quickly as possible.”

Xie Xu promptly dispatched someone to Baisha County.

Once the arrangements were made, Xie Xu invited Xiao Yuan inside.

The Old Madam was already sensing something was amiss.

As Xiao Yuan entered, the Old Madam approached him and asked: ”Young man, where are you from? I don’t recall seeing you before.”

Xiao Yuan responded with a smile: ”I live far away, you probably haven’t seen me.”

”Are you a friend of our Kun Kun?”

The Old Madam asked again.

Xiao Yuan affirmed: ”Yes, we’re good friends.”

Just as they were talking, Xie Kun’s two uncles, Xie Dong and Xie Liang, arrived with their families.

As soon as they entered, Xie Liang hurriedly asked Xie Xu: ”What’s going on? Why are you calling us all here so urgently?”

Xie Xu looked at Xiao Yuan, who nodded.

Then Xie Xu told Xie Kun: ”Go, invite your grandfather over as well.”

Xie Kun left and soon returned, supporting a rather energetic elderly man as he entered.

Once everyone was gathered, Xie Xu asked Xiao Yuan: ”Master, are all my family members really cursed?”

Xiao Yuan replied, ”If I’m not mistaken, everyone in your family bears traces of witchcraft. Some have been afflicted for longer, others shorter.”

The Xie Family was bewildered by these cryptic words.

Especially Mr. Xie, who sternly asked Xie Xu: ”What’s going on? This is...”

Xie Xu didn’t wait for Mr. Xie to finish and hastily said: ”Today’s gathering is about something that started when Kun Kun went on vacation.”

He explained how Xie Kun went on vacation to Hainan, met Anning, and thought she looked like the Old Madam when she was young. This aroused suspicion, prompting him to ask Hao Zhicheng to investigate Anning. This investigation unearthed some past affairs of the He Family, intensifying Xie Kun’s suspicions. He secretly took hairs from the Old Madam, Mr. Xie, and He Xiaohong for a DNA test, which revealed no biological relationship.

When Xie Xu recounted all of this, the Old Madam and Mr. Xie were stunned.

”How could this be? We did a test back then too.”

Xie Dong looked at Xie Kun: ”Do you have the picture of that Ms. Qin and her mother?”

Xie Kun quickly took out his phone, showing a photo of himself with Anning and He Dahong to Mr. Xie and the Old Madam: ”Grandpa, Grandma, take a look.”

The Old Madam, trembling, took the phone and, upon seeing the mother-daughter pair in the photo, immediately shed tears: ”They look alike, really alike.”

Mr. Xie glanced at it and was equally stunned.

Xie Kun said, ”If only Sister Qin looked alike, it would be fine, but Aunt He’s resemblance to Grandma is too suspicious. Although I said I was out playing, I actually went to Baisha County. I secretly took Aunt He’s hair for a test too.”

He spoke while showing the two sets of test results for the Xie Family to examine.

After passing the results around, Xie Liang frowned and asked: ”What about the DNA test from back then?”

Xie Xu sighed: ”Don’t forget what Sun Hong does. He likely switched the samples or tampered with them, maybe even cast a spell to alter the results.”

This makes sense.

Sun Hong, being a Heavenly Master, possessed some mysterious powers.

Xie Xu looked at Xie Dong: ”When I first found out He Xiaohong wasn’t my sister, my initial thought was to hide it. Sun Hong isn’t a gentleman; provoking him might make him go berserk. But Kun Kun encountered Master Xiao in Baisha County, who identified Kun Kun’s curse. Without lifting it, Kun Kun wouldn’t have lived much longer.”

At these words, Xie Kun’s mother was terrified, immediately embracing Xie Kun: ”Kun Kun, are you alright? You...”

Xie Kun reassured his mother: ”I’m fine; the Master already lifted the curse. He also mentioned that our entire family might be cursed and recently predicted that someone close to us might pass away soon. This urgency led me to invite the Master to lend his assistance. Upon inspection, he found that each of us, every single one...”

Mr. Xie struck the table with his palm: ”Good, good—the He Family and Sun Hong—they’re too audacious!”

The Xie Family was filled with rage.

Being deceived for over a decade would anger anyone, especially since the Xie Family was anything but docile.

Mr. Xie took a deep breath: ”Eldest, take these two DNA test results and quickly arrange to sever ties with He Xiaohong. Inform our relatives and friends so that regardless of what happens to our family, no assets will be connected to He Xiaohong.”

Mr. Xie spoke decisively, prompting Xie Dong to stand up: ”I’ll take care of it right away.”

The Old Madam smiled at Xiao Yuan: ”Master, given our family’s situation, we’ve truly neglected you.”

Xiao Yuan waved his hand: ”No worries.”

The Old Madam urgently tasked Xie Kun’s mother, Hao Yu, with preparing tea. She quietly conversed with Xiao Yuan: ”You come from Baisha County; Kun Kun said my biological daughter is there too. Do you know her?”

Xiao Yuan chuckled: ”She’s my mother.”

The Old Madam was astonished, holding Xiao Yuan’s hand tightly: ”Such fate indeed, who’d have thought we’re family.”

She insisted on having Xie Kun’s brothers call Xiao Yuan ”brother.”

Xie Kun smiled: ”Grandma, he’s a brother-in-law, not a brother. My aunt is Master Xiao’s mother-in-law.”

”It’s all the same, it’s all the same—we’re one family, aren’t we?”

The Old Madam laughed along: ”Some places call a brother-in-law ’brother’.”

Xie Kun’s aunt chimed in: ”That’s right, back home we call a brother-in-law ’brother’. Saying ’brother’ is perfectly fine.”

Thus, Xie Kun’s brothers stood up and respectfully addressed him as brother.
