The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

At that moment, Anning had just returned not long ago. She was sitting on the living room sofa talking with Xiao Yilin about the talent show, when they suddenly heard Qin Xiaomeng’s sobbing.

Anning quickly looked in the direction of the sound and saw Qin Xiaomeng standing at the door, crying her eyes out.

”What happened? Come over here, let me see.”

Qin Xiaomeng wiped her tears as she walked over to sit beside Anning: ”Mom, I messed up, I...”

”What exactly happened?”

Anning asked again, while Xiao Yilin handed some tissues to Qin Xiaomeng to wipe her tears: ”Xiaomeng, don’t cry first, tell us what happened clearly.”

”Okay, I will explain properly.”

Qin Xiaomeng managed to clean off her tears, still sniffing every now and then since she had cried for so long. But she did manage to explain everything clearly.

After hearing Xiaomeng’s explanation, both Anning and Xiao Yilin were utterly furious.

Anning let out a cold laugh: ”Is this what you call a good friend? Qin Xiaomeng, didn’t you realize she was just trying to trap you?”

Xiao Yilin added: ”How could you be so naive? Seriously, you usually seem pretty smart, at mom’s company you also manage to do some tasks well, how come you changed as soon as you went to school?”

Qin Xiaomeng lowered her head feeling a bit aggrieved: ”I didn’t expect her to be like that either, honestly, I...”

”Alright then, let’s focus on solving this problem first.”

Anning got up and walked out: ”I’ll go see if I can find any surveillance footage. Yilin, stay home with your sister, and talk to her.”

Xiao Yilin nodded: ”Mom, don’t overexert yourself. If you can’t find anything, we’ll come up with another solution.”

After Anning left, Xiao Yilin was worried and called Xiao Yuan.

”Will Dad scold me when he gets back?”

This time, Qin Xiaomeng was truly fearful, shrinking her neck and looking cautious.

Xiao Yilin saw her small face already tear-stained and resembling a kitten, she took Xiaomeng to wash her face first: ”Who else could you talk to about this if not Mom and Dad? Even if Dad decides to scold you, it’ll be later. Right now, the priority is solving the problem.”

Saying this, Xiao Yilin was still quite upset: ”What kind of friends do you have? They’re just deep pits.”

It turned out, Qin Xiaomeng’s friend was Feng Yino. Feng Yino was petite and delicate, with a gentle and pretty appearance. Her academic performance, being in Class One, was certainly good.

However, Feng Yino’s grades were not as good as Qin Xiaomeng’s; she entered Class One by barely meeting the standard.

She seemed delicate and charming, spoke gently, and usually studied hard, appearing to have a good temper and kind personality.

She and Qin Xiaomeng got along well; they could really talk to each other. She was the best friend Qin Xiaomeng made after arriving in the Capital, and Xiaomeng cherished Feng Yino as a friend.

Until last week, Feng Yino discussed and agreed with Xiaomeng to go out and have fun together, and also visit the library to buy some books.

The two girls set a time, early Sunday morning, Xiaomeng went out and reached the agreed place. Feng Yino suggested touring the Old Beijing alleys.

Xiaomeng was quite interested, so both of them rented shared bikes to explore together.

Then, they reached an alley with few people around, and the two of them sped up a bit.

Feng Yino was ahead, with Qin Xiaomeng following behind, just as Feng Yino turned a corner, Xiaomeng heard her let out a scream.

Xiaomeng quickly went over to see, and found an Old Madam had fallen not far in front of Feng Yino.

”What happened?”

Xiaomeng hurriedly stopped her bike and asked Feng Yino.

Feng Yino was already crying, her small face pale: ”I didn’t see it while turning, the Old Madam fell trying to avoid me.”

”Is it serious?”

Xiaomeng saw the Old Madam lying on the ground groaning in pain, and immediately went to check on her.

Upon closer inspection, it seemed the Old Madam had twisted her ankle or something; anyway, she couldn’t walk.

Xiaomeng quickly supported her: ”Please wait, I’ll call an ambulance to take you to the hospital.”

”Girl, then please hurry.”

The Old Madam grabbed Xiaomeng’s arm tightly.

Feng Yino, wiping her tears, also came over, while Xiaomeng was calling, Feng Yino apologized to the Old Madam: ”We’re sorry, it’s totally our fault, don’t worry, my friend won’t leave you behind, we will definitely get you to the hospital, I, I don’t have money with me, but my friend brought some money, by the way, my friend is a student at XX High School, a top student in Class One, ranked top ten in grade, really capable, she wouldn’t...”

Xiaomeng was focused on the call and didn’t pay much attention to what Feng Yino said.

But at that crucial moment during the call, Feng Yino threw Xiaomeng under the bus.

She didn’t mention her name at all, instead reported Xiaomeng’s name to the Old Madam, and insinuated that her family was rich while Yino’s family wasn’t.

So, when the ambulance arrived, the Old Madam insisted Xiaomeng accompany her to the hospital.

Xiaomeng didn’t want to go, but the Old Madam held her tightly while Feng Yino urged Xiaomeng: ”Xiaomeng, don’t waste time, go with her, look how much pain the Old Madam is in.”

Xiaomeng had no choice and went to the hospital with them, paying for the hospitalization expenses. She thought once she had paid, she’d be free, so when the Old Madam’s family arrived, Xiaomeng left.

Xiaomeng thought that since it wasn’t her who had hit the Old Madam, sending her to the hospital was already enough. But unexpectedly, on Monday, the Old Madam’s family found their way to the school.

They didn’t enter the school, instead waited at the gate. When Qin Xiaomeng and Feng Yino came out, the family called them over.

The family claimed the Old Madam had fractured her bone and was scared into illness, demanding Qin Xiaomeng compensate, intimidating her in various ways, even threatening to cause a fuss at school if she didn’t pay, and to expose her to the media.

Xiaomeng was both angry and scared, arguing with them: ”Why should I? I didn’t hit her; I was just being kind bringing her to the hospital. Why are you extorting me?”

”How can you say you didn’t hit her? Even if not directly, she was scared by you riding too fast, and hence, tried to dodge your bike... Why are girls nowadays so immoral? How did your family raise you?”

The Old Madam’s son pointed angrily at Xiaomeng: ”Get your family here, otherwise we won’t let this go.”

Feng Yino quietly said to Xiaomeng: ”Xiaomeng, you, you should just give them the money. I think the Old Madam’s family conditions aren’t good, probably can’t afford the medical bills, anyway, your family won’t miss that amount.”

Xiaomeng was nearly beside herself with anger.

”Feng Yino, you know exactly what happened, you were riding ahead, I was behind, if we’re talking about scaring the Old Madam, it was you who did it, why should I foot the bill? Do you really think I’m a fool?”

Feng Yino started crying: ”Xiaomeng, I... I never thought you’d be like this, shifting all blame onto me just to avoid responsibility, despite me considering you my best friend.”
