The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Xiao Yuan went and returned on the same day.

When he got back, Zhang Yilin’s household registration and everything had been transferred back, and the school enrollment was all set.

Additionally, Xiao Yuan processed the documents for adopting Zhang Yilin and obtained the paperwork for Zhang Hao relinquishing his guardianship.

When he showed these to Zhang Yilin, she was truly relieved and overjoyed.

It happened to be after school at the time, so the whole family was present, and Zhang Yilin jumped off the sofa: ”That’s great, Dad, you’re amazing, now I’m part of our family again.”

She danced with joy, rushed over to hug Xiao Yuan, then hugged Anning, and embraced each member of the family, even hugging Xiao Lu for quite a while.

”All right.”

Anning patted Zhang Yilin: ”Since all the paperwork is settled, tomorrow you’ll come to school with me. You’ve been away for so long, I don’t know if you’ve fallen behind in your studies. Anyway, tonight I’ll make a test for you.”

Zhang Yilin visibly wilted.

”Mom, that’s not fair. I originally planned to celebrate by treating the whole family to dinner, and now you’re...”

Anning glanced at the cold stove in the kitchen: ”Let’s go out to eat, Yilin, you’re treating.”

”Okay.”

Zhang Yilin agreed, then looked forlornly at Xiao Yuan: ”Dad, the money I left at home was meant as a fallback for the Zhang Family, but now with all this going on, I definitely won’t give it to them. Please liquidate those assets and let’s invest in buying two more houses.”

”Alright.”

Xiao Yuan agreed as he headed out: ”I’ll find time to convert them and take time to look at houses.”

As the family stepped outside, they found a nearby restaurant to eat, and after dinner, they strolled back home, chatting and laughing along the way, everyone in high spirits.

Back home, as expected, Anning created a test for Zhang Yilin to complete.

While Zhang Yilin worked on the test, Anning seized the opportunity to tutor the other four children.

After finishing tutoring, Zhang Yilin also completed her test, and Anning reviewed it: ”You’ve regressed.”

Zhang Yilin hesitated to face Anning: ”I’ve been so busy dealing with matters recently, and after the Zhang Family went bankrupt, I truly lost the motivation to study.”

Anning sighed: ”I wasn’t blaming you, just wanted to tell you that although you’ve slacked off in the past, now we need to focus on catching up with what you missed.”

”I’ve got it.”

After her experiences with the Zhang Family, Zhang Yilin has noticeably become more mature, knowing who truly cares for her, she agreed obediently.

Once the children were settled, Anning and Xiao Yuan went to shower and rest.

In this manner, some time passed and it was the end-of-term exams.

The weather was already quite hot, and each day the kids complained about the heat after returning from school, suffering through it.

First Middle School is located in the old district, and classrooms don’t have air conditioning, with forty to fifty students in each room, naturally it’s stiflingly hot.

Because of the heat, the kids ate less, and each day they seemed lethargic.

Anning and Xiao Yuan worried about the kids getting heatstroke, so they made cooling foods daily, Xiao Yuan prepared medicinal meals and concocted cooling soups for them to drink.

Anning encouraged the kids daily, reminding them to hang in there and that after the exams, they could spend the summer break at home away from the heat.

So the kids eagerly awaited the exams.

After much anticipation, the exams finally arrived, they took tests for two days, stayed at school for a few more days, received their grades, and came home beaming with joy.

The five children performed quite well this time.

The three younger ones showed swift improvement, each scoring around eight hundred points across nine subjects.

Xiao Lu’s scores were also decent, achieving over six hundred.

Although Zhang Yilin didn’t score exceptionally, she did better than before, previously only earning around four hundred points, she finally broke five hundred this time.

The children’s good performance was paralleled by Anning’s class doing even better.

Their class not only scored the highest total but also the highest average across the school, with the top students improving rapidly; out of the top fifty students in the school, over ten were from Anning’s class. Bear in mind, First Middle School is a prestigious school in the county, so many parents strive to enroll their children there, hence the school’s large student body and numerous classes, with over a dozen in the eighth grade alone, and class six having over ten students in the top fifty is already impressive, especially with the top three being from class six, which made Anning stand out in the staff meeting.

After the summer break started, many parents called Anning, hoping they’d get her to tutor their children one-on-one.

Anning never accepted tutoring before, and she wouldn’t start now.

Firstly, she didn’t need the money, secondly, she was busy tutoring the five children at home, she couldn’t handle more.

However, Anning still compiled some questions and review materials, personally printed fifty copies at a copy shop, and arranged with the students’ parents to collect them at school.

This made the parents happy, and nobody felt slighted when Anning declined tutoring.

After resting for a few days, Anning got the kids back into studying.

Having them not study wouldn’t work; after all, the three younger ones would soon enter ninth grade, and the two older ones would start twelfth grade, with three facing entrance exams and two facing college exams next year, which is of utmost importance for the family.

Each day, Anning guided the five children in their studies, while Xiao Yuan took care of logistics.

He generally had nothing to do, so he stayed home cooking for his wife and kids, and if a job came up, he’d go out for a day or two, earning enough to live comfortably for years.

Plus, Anning wasn’t just tutoring; she was also writing.

Her book had reached over a million words, and subscriptions were steadily increasing, drawing millions daily, earning her substantial monthly income.

Watching the family’s savings grow, Anning frequently discussed investment plans with Xiao Yuan in the evening.

Of course, Xiao Yuan supported her.

He asked Anning which industry she was interested in investing in, and after contemplating, Anning decided on the entertainment industry.

This world’s entertainment industry was indeed very underdeveloped.

Whether it’s published books or online literature, most were traditional, with limited genres.

TV shows and films were uninspiring, consisting of orthodox historical dramas, full-contact martial arts series, and industry hero tributes with startup dramas, not even having early idol dramas.

Anning felt the people’s spiritual lives were quite dull, wanting to improve it.

Moreover, as a writer, investing in adaptations of her works into TV or films sounded appealing.

She shared her ideas with Xiao Yuan, who agreed it seemed promising.

Thereafter, Xiao Yuan became occupied.

Whatever Anning wanted, Xiao Yuan wholeheartedly supported, but verbal support alone wouldn’t suffice.

Being a teacher, Anning had no experience in entertainment, it would be difficult to enter the circle without substantial funds or connections, let alone thrive in it.

Each circle and industry has its rules, many unwritten, without acquaintances, it’s nearly impossible to penetrate.

What Xiao Yuan needed to do was pave a path for Anning.
