The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

After returning to the hotel, Xie Kun thought more and more that Anning looked very much like his Grandma.

Moreover, when he saw Anning, he always felt a certain warmth, a feeling that was very peculiar, which he hadn’t felt even among his cousins.

Xie Kun was quite perceptive, and he had a strong intuition.

He always felt that Anning resembling the Old Madam was more than just a simple coincidence.

However, he had asked, and their family didn’t have any missing relatives, except for his extraordinary Aunt.

But to say that Aunt was mistaken, that also seemed a bit irrational, considering they had done a paternity test when she was found back then.

The more Xie Kun thought about it, the stranger it seemed, like this whole matter was a tangled mess.

After pondering for a while, he decided to call the Old Madam.

At this time, the Old Madam had just finished dinner and was taking a walk in the yard when the maid handed her the phone. Seeing it was her beloved grandson calling, she answered with a smile.

”Kun Kun, are you having fun outside?”

Xie Kun laughed and said, ”I’m having quite a good time, the environment here is great, and the air is good too. Grandma, you should come over and play when you have some time.”

”Sure.”

The Old Madam agreed with a cheerful smile.

Then Xie Kun asked the Old Madam, ”Grandma, lately I’ve seen a lot of netizens on the internet sharing old photos of their family elders. Many people have liked and commented, saying those elders looked so good when they were young. I thought of you when you were young, you were the real beauty. Those netizens lack taste, getting all excited over ordinary beauty. If they saw you, they would be amazed beyond words.”

The Old Madam was tickled and couldn’t stop laughing: ”Listen to my grandson, such sweet talk, not bad at all, but Grandma is old now.”

Xie Kun then asked with a laugh, ”Grandma, were the elders in your home also good-looking? What did my great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother look like?”

This question made the Old Madam think about the elder relatives who had passed away: ”Let me tell you, I’m not considered a beauty, my mother was the true beauty. When she was young, countless talented young men went crazy over her, many tabloids called her the number one beauty, someone with a dazzling appearance.”

Xie Kun pretended to be interested: ”Sounds fascinating. When you have time, can you tell me about her? By the way, did you look like her?”

The Old Madam replied, ”I did look like her, though I lacked her grace. She was the true lady of noble birth; poetry, books, and manners were engraved in her bones, unlike me, who was just so-so back then.”

Xie Kun listened attentively and asked several more questions.

The Old Madam didn’t mind, she liked this grandson and was happy to chat with him.

The conversation lasted for about half an hour until Xie Kun decided to hang up, fearing the Old Madam might get tired.

After hanging up, Xie Kun furrowed his brows.

According to the Old Madam, she resembled her mother greatly, and the Old Madam’s mother also resembled her grandmother. If reckoned like this, Xie Kun’s Aunt should look like the Old Madam.

But why does Aunt not resemble her at all?

Did she undergo a mutation?

Unconsciously, Xie Kun thought again of Anning.

If Anning were his Aunt, the age wouldn’t match, Aunt is about twenty years older than Anning.

No, that’s not right.

Xie Kun clenched his fist, twenty years is a generational gap, Anning’s mother should be around that age.

That’s right, that matches.

Xie Kun quickly took out his phone and called his cousin Hao Zhicheng.

”Brother, can you help me investigate someone?”

He recounted the incident of being saved by Anning: ”She didn’t ask for any repayment, but I always feel unsettled, so I was thinking of finding out where she’s from, what her family does, and secretly giving her some benefits or something.”

Hao Zhicheng also agreed: ”That’s how it should be. After all, she saved your life. Okay, I will send the information to you later.”

After arranging things, Xie Kun rested.

When he woke up the next morning, he opened his laptop and found a new file in his email.

Xie Kun clicked to open it, revealing all of Anning’s information.

It documented a lot about Anning, where she was from, what job she currently held, who her ex-husband was and for what reasons they divorced, and also her current husband and children, and naturally, information about Anning’s parents and brothers.

When Xie Kun saw the photo of Mrs. Qin on it, his eyes widened.

She looked really similar.

If Anning resembled the young Grandma Xie, then Mrs. Qin slightly resembled the old Grandma Qin.

If it were just Anning who looked similar, it might be a coincidence, but Mrs. Qin looking similar too made things interesting.

Xie Kun quickly called Hao Zhicheng again: ”Brother, can you help me investigate this Mrs. Qin?”

”Why?”

Hao Zhicheng had just woken up, was washing up, and was quite surprised to get a call from Xie Kun: ”Isn’t all the information there already, what else do you want to investigate?”

Xie Kun said urgently: ”Where she’s from, who her parents are, where her hometown is, everything about her, please brother, this is very important to me.”

Seeing Xie Kun so anxious, Hao Zhicheng didn’t trouble him: ”Alright, I’ll help investigate a bit, but why don’t you ask your family’s Master for this?”

Hao Zhicheng was referring to the son of Aunt Xie, Sun Hong.

Sun Hong was a famous Master, he specialized in Feng Shui and Face Reading and was a guest of many prominent figures. This was why Aunt Xie had been causing trouble all these years without the Xie Family putting up any complaints; they feared Sun Hong might harm them behind their backs.

After all, people didn’t really understand Mysticism, which naturally led them to be cautious. For years, the Xie Family endured.

Xie Kun sighed, ”Brother, don’t you think Mrs. Qin resembles my Grandma? I always thought my Aunt was kind of strange, so I want to investigate...”

Thinking of the photo of Mrs. Qin in the materials prompted by Xie Kun, Hao Zhicheng began to notice the resemblance too.

He was originally smiling, but now he became serious.

”Alright, I’ll check it out for you, but this has to be done cautiously. Even if something is found, you must hold back and say nothing. That Sun Hong isn’t simple, if he learns anything, who knows if he wouldn’t eliminate that family.”

Xie Kun hadn’t thought of this, but upon hearing it from Hao Zhicheng, he became afraid too.

”Maybe we shouldn’t investigate after all.”

He wasn’t worried about himself; he was scared of implicating Anning’s family.

”We must investigate of course.”

Hao Zhicheng sneered: ”That Sun Hong hasn’t done any less bad things over the years. He has caused public resentment; in the field of Mysticism, he’s not the dominant force. If he keeps being excessive, even the circle won’t tolerate him. His expertise in Feng Shui is high, but remember, there are many Feng Shui Masters out there, while one might not be his match, wouldn’t he fear everyone combined?”

”Yes, yes.”

Xie Kun nodded repeatedly: ”Then we will investigate. Once you find out something, inform me secretly.”

Over at Anning’s side, right after the Spring Festival, Xiao Yuan received a call for help: ”Master Xiao, help, please, you must save us.”

The call was from an old customer of Xiao Yuan’s; it seemed they encountered a major issue. Xiao Yuan couldn’t just stand by, so he hurriedly ended the trip with his family, packed things, and booked a ticket to return.
