The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Because she had something on her mind, Zhang Yilin didn’t stay at the Xiao Family for long and returned after just one night.

When Zhang Yilin went back, Xiao Lu was also on the phone with Zhang Linfeng.

When Xiao Lu was at the Zhang Family, she was closest to Mrs. Zhang, but Mrs. Zhang never interfered in company matters, so talking to her was useless. Xiao Lu could only turn to Zhang Linfeng.

Zhang Linfeng was quite pleased to receive a call from Xiao Lu.

After all, they’ve been siblings for over a decade, and although Zhang Linfeng seldom returned home, he used to be very fond of Xiao Lu.

”LuLu, what made you think of calling me? I thought once you went to the Xiao Family, you’d forget you still have a brother.”

Xiao Lu chuckled, ”How could that be? It’s just that I’ve been busy lately with transferring school registration and adapting to the new school, which takes a couple of days.”

That’s true.

Zhang Linfeng sat down and tugged at his tie, ”So, what’s up? If there’s anything, just let your brother know.”

Xiao Lu thought for a moment and straightforwardly asked Zhang Linfeng, ”Brother, is our family bidding for that piece of land in the East Development Zone?”

Zhang Linfeng was taken aback, ”How did you know?”

As soon as Xiao Lu heard this, she knew the Zhang Family was indeed bidding for the land, ”I heard it from my dad. Someone asked him to check the Feng Shui of that land. My dad said it shouldn’t be bought.”

”Noted.”

The joyous mood Zhang Linfeng had suddenly dampened.

He quickly exchanged a few words with Xiao Lu and hung up.

Coming out of the office, he wanted to discuss the matter with Zhang Hao, but coincidentally, when he went over, Zhang Yilin was talking with Zhang Hao in his office.

Zhang Linfeng stood at the door and overheard a bit; they were discussing the land in the Development Zone.

”Dad, we should err on the side of caution, what if the land isn’t good...”

Zhang Linfeng was quite agitated and burst in, ”What nonsense are you saying? In this day and age, still talking about such feudal superstitions. That swindler Xiao Yuan doesn’t know anything.”

Zhang Hao felt the same way.

The Zhang Family father and son actually looked down on Xiao Yuan.

They believed Xiao Yuan, as a grown man, was disgraceful for not having a proper job and living by deceiving people.

”Yilin, all this talk about Feng Shui, we’ve already had people evaluate that land and conduct surveys. It’s really good, and the government has issued support policies as well. If our family wins the bid for that land, it’s not just about making money, our company will be elevated to another level.”

Zhang Hao earnestly explained to Zhang Yilin, ”You all don’t understand business matters. Yilin, your dad has recently been getting close to another developer who also wants that land. This might be their trap to make us back down and eliminate a competitor through you.”

Hearing Zhang Hao speak so kindly while saying this, Zhang Yilin couldn’t help but feel a chill all over.

”Dad, can’t you trust me?”

Zhang Yilin asked again.

Zhang Hao waved his hand, ”Alright, don’t talk about it. This isn’t something you can interfere with.”

Zhang Yilin was so angry her eyes turned red.

Zhang Hao patted her on the head, ”Yilin, you need to be mindful. Don’t just believe what others say.”

Zhang Linfeng smiled at Zhang Yilin, ”A few brands have recently launched new collections; why don’t you and mom go shopping and get some clothes and jewelry.”

Zhang Yilin calmed down, ”Alright, then give me some money.”

Zhang Hao handed her a card, ”Take it and have fun.”

Zhang Yilin took it without hesitation.

As soon as she left the company, Zhang Yilin transferred all the money from the card Zhang Hao gave her to the bank card she had placed with Xiao Yuan.

After doing this, she composed herself and went home.

Through this incident, Zhang Yilin felt even less of a sense of belonging to the Zhang Family.

She knew Xiao Yuan cared for her and that’s why he tried to advise the Zhang Family. She also knew Xiao Yuan wouldn’t joke about something like this. Though he’d deceived people in the past, he cared deeply for his family and wouldn’t sabotage them for money by setting up the Zhang Family.

After all, there were still two daughters tying him to the Zhang Family.

But what about Zhang Hao and his son?

They didn’t think about these things; they immediately suspected Xiao Yuan of teaming up with others to trick the Zhang Family. Their mindset was really dark and selfish.

Zhang Yilin didn’t cry.

Things had reached this point. She heard from Xiao Yuan yesterday that if the Zhang Family continued to meddle with the land business, they’d likely go bankrupt, so Zhang Yilin thought she might as well make a substantial gain before the Zhang Family went under.

No matter what happens in the future, at least she has money in hand and peace of mind.

However, Zhang Yilin was still somewhat unwilling.

Returning home, she thought of Xiao Lu who was equally worried about the Zhang Family.

After some hesitation, Zhang Yilin sent a message to Xiao Lu.

She shared with Xiao Lu what the Zhang father and son had said, advising Xiao Lu not to worry about it anymore.

Xiao Lu saw the message from Zhang Yilin during recess.

She read it and shook her head with a bitter smile.

The Zhang Family is really digging their own grave, perhaps just as Xiao Yuan said, man proposes but God disposes. They’ve tried their best to warn them but the Zhang Family won’t listen, maybe it’s fate.

Xiao Lu currently feels very little attachment to the Zhang Family.

Her feelings for them had already faded in her previous life.

Reminding them once, she felt that she had done her duty, and she wouldn’t do anything beyond that. Also, she knew doing more would only make her father troubled.

What was Xiao Yuan doing?

He was with Bao Bufen heading to the East Development Zone.

Standing on a plot of land yet to be developed, Xiao Yuan looked at the surrounding fields, and then crouched to touch the soil beneath his hand. Only after a while did he stand up.

”How is it?”

Bao Bufen asked nervously.

Xiao Yuan walked towards the car, ”We’ll talk about it later.”

Bao Bufen dared not ask more.

He, along with his partner Boss Wu, followed Xiao Yuan and got in the car.

The car drove straight to a hotel in the Provincial City, and after getting out, Xiao Yuan said to Bao Bufen, ”Let’s eat first.”

So, the three of them booked a private room and ordered some dishes.

When the dishes were served, Xiao Yuan told Bao Bufen to close the door before saying, ”Turns out it’s pretty much as I thought; that land’s earth dragon veins.”

Bao Bufen exclaimed with joy, ”That’s good news, it means the Feng Shui is excellent.”

His partner also looked enthusiastically at Xiao Yuan, ”Master, with such good Feng Shui, why shouldn’t we bid for the land?”

Xiao Yuan rubbed his forehead; talking to these people who understood nothing was really exhausting. He had explained so clearly yet they still didn’t get it, ”Do you think dragon veins are that easy to find? This piece of land’s dragon vein has existed for thousands of years, if it were to be owned, it would’ve been long ago. Let me make it clear; there’s a large ancient tomb beneath this land.”

”What?”

Bao Bufen and Boss Wu both gaped, eyes filled with fright.

”During ancient times, rulers’ tombs were always built on sites with good Feng Shui, especially on dragon veins. Based on the terrain, I’ve calculated that the burial site beneath should be quite large, with significant archaeological value as well.”

Xiao Yuan explained even more clearly, not only pointing out the existence of an ancient tomb but indicating it was a royal burial site.

This time, Bao Bufen was truly scared and started sweating.

He used a tissue to continually wipe his sweat, ”No bidding, absolutely not. We’ll withdraw our funds and find other projects.”

”Alright.”

Boss Wu nodded. Xiao Yuan had explained it so thoroughly that if he still didn’t withdraw his investment, he would be an utter fool.
