Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Miss Lili warned the patient with the wasp stings, ”Are you trying to get us killed? This is a morgue, and you turned off the light? What are we going to do if a corpse turns into a malevolent spirit and lunges at us in the middle of the night?”

Beauty Yu Lan looked at the gloomy, terrifying surroundings and said with a shiver, ”You’d better turn the light back on. Otherwise, I’ll be really scared...”

Feeling terrified, Beauty Xuelian clutched Zhao Rong’s arm and hid in his embrace. ”I don’t think this patient has good intentions,” she said. ”He brought us into a morgue and then turned off the light. Is he trying to scare us to death?”

Just as the three women were panicking, the assistant went over and switched on the light. He smiled and said, ”Miss Lili, Beauty Yu Lan, Beauty Xuelian... even though the three of you just beat me up, I’m a bigger person than to hold a grudge. See? I’m still helping you by turning the light on, so we won’t be scared anymore.”

But when the patient saw the assistant turn on the light, he said with disgust, ”Bro, we’re supposed to be sleeping. How can anyone sleep when it’s this bright? Besides, leaving a light on all night might attract zombies...”

Before the patient could finish speaking, the three women had already piled tables, chairs, and other large furniture against the entrance. They barricaded the tempered glass door from the inside, stacking things three layers deep. Turning to the patient, they announced, ”There. We’ve blocked the door. Even if the light attracts zombies, they won’t be able to get in.”

Hearing them, the patient shook his head and lay down on the floor. Closing his eyes to rest, he said, ”Fine. If you want to sleep with the light on, we’ll sleep with the light on. But be warned, a terrifying sight might appear in the middle of the night. You’d better be prepared.”

Even though the patient had warned them, the three women didn’t take him seriously. ”We may be in a morgue, but with the lights on, what could possibly happen? We don’t believe you. We’re sleeping with the lights on tonight.”

Miss Lili said stubbornly, ”Even if something terrifying happens, we have Brother Zhao Rong. He’ll take care of it immediately.”

Staring at the bright lamp on the ceiling, Beauty Yu Lan felt a profound sense of security. ”No matter how dangerous or terrifying a place is,” she said, ”I won’t be scared as long as the lights are on and everything is bright.”

Beauty Xuelian felt much warmer with the light on. She snuggled into Brother Zhao Rong’s embrace and said with great contentment, ”This is the first time in my life I’ve fallen asleep in a man’s arms while watching a lightbulb on the ceiling. It feels amazing...”

Hearing the three women, the patient simply shook his head and muttered to himself, I’ve lived in this morgue for years. You think I don’t know about the strange things that happen here? ’Don’t listen to your elders, and you’ll suffer for it later.’ Go ahead, you three. Leave the light on. In the dead of night, you’ll find out just how terrifying it is to sleep in this morgue with the light on...

At that moment, the assistant sidled up to the patient and whispered, ”Brother, can you give me a hint? If we sleep in here with the light on, what kind of weird stuff happens in the middle of the night? I’d like to be mentally prepared so I don’t get so scared I wet my pants.”

The patient looked at the assistant’s shifty expression and whispered back, ”In the dead of night, you’ll find this morgue packed with people.”

Hearing this, the assistant was completely baffled. ”What’s that supposed to mean?” he asked.

With his eyes still closed, the patient rolled over. ”Heaven’s secrets must not be revealed,” he mumbled as he drifted off to sleep. ”They can only be understood, not explained.”

With that, the patient began to snore, sound asleep.

Lying next to the patient, the assistant tossed and turned, his mind racing. What on earth did that guy mean? Why would the morgue be packed with people in the middle of the night? Could people from town really sneak into the hospital and come all the way to the morgue?

While the assistant was lost in thought, the three women and Zhao Rong, sleeping nearby, had already huddled together and fallen asleep.

Watching them, the assistant seethed with envy. ”Miss Lili, Beauty Yu Lan, Beauty Xuelian... so you all love being with Brother Zhao Rong, sleeping with Brother Zhao Rong. Just you wait. One day, I’ll show you three that my skills in bed are every bit as good as his...”

After muttering this, the assistant closed his eyes and tried to sleep. But whether it was because something was weighing on his mind or he was simply a coward, he tossed and turned, unable to drift off. As the minutes ticked by, he grew more and more agitated. He imagined all sorts of horrifying scenarios, murmuring, ”When this place gets crowded in the middle of the night, I just hope nothing terrible happens... nothing dangerous, nothing life-threatening...”

He hadn’t even finished the thought when a glance at his watch showed it was already 1:00 AM.

Suddenly, the assistant felt the white sheets on the nearby mortuary slabs begin to shake. He shot bolt upright, his eyes glued to the moving sheets. ”Oh my god,” he said, terrified. ”Don’t tell me all the corpses in the morgue reanimate at the exact same time?”

Before he could finish his sentence, the white sheets covering the corpses slid to the floor. The bodies, which had been lying perfectly still, all sat up in unison.

The sight sent a violent shiver through the assistant. With the hairs on his body standing on end, he stammered in disbelief, ”My god... the patient was right. Something shocking really does happen in the middle of the night if you leave the lights on...”

But an even more astonishing scene followed. The corpses climbed down from their slabs and began to stroll about, chatting, laughing, and playfully jostling one another.

Seeing this, the assistant quickly lay back down and feigned sleep. He quietly whispered to the patient next to him, ”Brother, what in the world is going on?”
