Super Tycoon: I Beg You, Stop Pulling Stunts

Chapter 393: Chapter 257: Father and Son, One a Bigger Braggart Than the Other

On the highway driving from Peng City back to his hometown, Wang Hao focused on the road.

He hadn’t been driving for long, just over a year, and he’d been a bit nervous when he first got on the highway. However, he gradually relaxed after noticing that the other cars on the road were deliberately keeping their distance from him.

A Rolls-Royce was a Rolls-Royce, after all.

His gaze involuntarily drifted to Lin Chu in the passenger seat. Lin Chu was playing on his phone. When he spared him a glance, Wang Hao guiltily looked away.

Back when he worked at the golf club, he lived in a group dormitory, ate in the club’s cafeteria, and went to work with the other sales reps every day. He was a total bottom-rung wage slave, just another beast of burden.

And that was even though he knew the club belonged to his cousin.

But it was as if it had absolutely nothing to do with him.

But ever since...

Ever since becoming a driver, Wang Hao suddenly felt like the door to a whole new world had opened.

When his former colleagues heard the news, they started acting like complete bootlickers fawning over a goddess. They went from calling him Xiaowang or Ah Hao to Brother Wang and Brother Hao.

Even his old department’s big boss, President Xin, had called him, speaking gently and pleasantly, just to ”stay in touch.”

In the past two days with Lin Chu, he had seen the golf club, the company in Futian, the headquarters in Front Sea, and the villa in Swan Castle. It all gave him an intense feeling of unreality, as if he were in a dream.

He, who had always been a good sleeper, had started suffering from insomnia these past two days.

’What happened to the world?’

’What in the world is going on?’

’How did his cousin get so rich in less than three years after graduation?’

’He was like someone from a completely different world.’

’But...’

He didn’t dare to ask.

But the curiosity in his heart grew by the day, like a cat scratching at his chest, an ever-intensifying itch.

Now, as they left Peng City and headed toward their hometown, the farther they got from the city, the more Wang Hao felt that the man before him was his cousin, not the high-and-mighty President Lin.

”Cousin, can I ask you a question?”

After hesitating again and again, Wang Hao couldn’t hold back any longer and asked, a little apprehensively.

”Hm?”

Lin Chu turned his head and looked at him nonchalantly.

”How much money do you have now?”

His sharp Adam’s apple bobbed slightly as Wang Hao couldn’t help but ask again.

’This question...’

Lin Chu gave him a thoughtful look, a faint smile playing on his lips. ’Very good. For the first time, a spark has been lit in the heart of this ignorant youth.’

”Why do you ask?”

”The amount of money isn’t what’s most important. The most important thing is to have ambition and work with your feet on the ground. Then all you need is one opportunity, and BAM, you’ll take off.”

Lin Chu said with a completely serious expression.

’Tsk.’

’So hypocritical.’

But that was the only way Lin Chu could answer.

This just went to show that you couldn’t believe the autobiographies of successful people, nor could you believe the chicken soup for the soul they spouted.

People always have a tendency to self-aggrandize, attributing their success to their own wisdom and hard work while ignoring the things they had that others didn’t.

Hearing this, Wang Hao’s eyes lit up slightly, and a flicker of passion ignited in his heart.

The path to success, as described by Lin Chu, sounded so clear and easy, as if anyone could do it.

”If you follow the path I’ve laid out for you, I can’t promise much, but buying a house and a car in Peng City within ten years will definitely be no problem. As for how much higher you can go, that will depend on your own abilities.”

Seeing his expression, Lin Chu casually drew him another ”pie in the sky.”

And, of course, there was nothing wrong with that.

”Yeah!”

Wang Hao nodded emphatically.

They drove for a while longer. Full of confidence, Wang Hao couldn’t help but ask again, ”Cousin, can you tell me the story of how you started your business?”

He was eager to learn more.

Lin Chu smiled, lit a cigarette, and let out a long plume of smoke.

”Sure. It was actually pretty tough at the beginning. When I first started out, I had no money. I called all my friends trying to raise funds, but no one paid me any mind. Who would have, back then? To be honest with you, there was one time I was trying to land a client, and I waited outside his office for a full seven days. But every time he showed up, he couldn’t even be bothered to look at me. Eventually, he just had security throw me out. I didn’t even get the deal in the end. So what could I do? I just had to hold back my tears and keep working.”

”In the beginning, I rented a room in one of those urban village tenements, the kind of ’handshake building’ where if you watched a movie, the people in the building across the way could hear it. I couldn’t bear to turn on the AC at night, and man, was it hot. I’d be asleep when I’d suddenly feel something itchy on me. I’d reach out and touch it... hey, a cockroach! I’d slap it, and SPLAT, its eggs would burst all over my face.”

”The worst time was when I was truly broke. The company was in Che Kung Temple, and I lived in Gusu. I couldn’t even afford a subway ticket. I didn’t want to go home, but I had an important document there. So I steeled myself and ran all the way from Che Kung Temple to Gusu in my leather shoes. I got home at three in the morning, grabbed the document, took a shower, changed my clothes, and without even a wink of sleep, ran all the way back to Che Kung Temple for work the next day. And then, that very next day, I closed a huge deal—eighty thousand yuan, with a twenty-thousand-yuan commission for me.”

Lin Chu spun this yarn off the top of his head, bullshitting like a pro.

These were all things that had happened to him when he was in sales, just not quite so exaggerated. With a little tweaking of the timeline and some reasonable embellishment, they became a few nearly perfect, inspirational stories—more chicken soup for the soul.
