Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1383: Chapter 1368: The Hunted Calf Whale

After releasing the Old Turtle in the deep sea area, Huo Sining and Qibao returned to the surface. The school of dolphins that was originally chasing the group of Golden Spearfish had already disappeared without a trace, except for the dolphin used by Huo Sining as a mount, which still lingered in the original spot, circling around the bay.

Seeing Huo Sining and Qibao emerge from the water, the dolphin quickly swam over, affectionately nuzzling Huo Sining’s arm and cheek.

Having found the Whorl Jade and captured some Golden Spearfish, this journey was quite fruitful for Huo Sining.

At this moment, the sky was already showing the first light of dawn. Huo Sining estimated it was almost four in the morning, so after discussing with Qibao, she planned to set off on their return journey.

However, after traveling only a few dozen nautical miles on the dolphin, they unexpectedly saw a massive shadow not far ahead on the sea surface.

The shadow rose and fell in the water, occasionally spraying a tall column of water from its head, causing gigantic waves underneath, with rainwater splashing for miles—Huo Sining and Qibao were not spared either.

It was a gigantic whale!

Even though the dolphin had been blessed by the Spirit of Azure Pearl and had the intelligence of a young child, it was not a primate and had an instinctive reaction to danger. Seeing such a massive whale, the dolphin froze in fear and almost instinctively chose to escape, detouring in the opposite direction of the giant whale.

Huo Sining was also a bit nervous, sitting on the dolphin’s back, her gaze fixed on that giant whale in the distance.

Amidst the turbulent winds and waves, the giant whale started to roar furiously for some reason.

“Awooo—”

The howl was deafening. The giant whale lifted its tall tail fin, its entire body surfacing in a strange, curved posture. Even from a great distance, Huo Sining could see the broad back of the whale.

Just by assessing it visually, Huo Sining estimated that the whale was at least over ten meters long in its bent state. If straightened, it would probably be even longer.

Such a large whale likely weighed as much as a giant ship.

However, at this moment, what concerned Huo Sining more was not the whale’s length and size, but the agonizing sound it made.

The despair and rage in the sound confused Huo Sining. While pondering, she saw a large fishing vessel rapidly approaching from several miles away, a long rope trailing from it, with its source attached to the giant whale!

Huo Sining’s heart sank immediately, realizing something was amiss.

The fishing vessel was likely the legendary Whaling Ship! The reason the whale was emitting such agonizing cries was surely because it had been shot with a Whale Harpoon Gun and was injured, which is why it was so furious!

This was the high seas, and Huo Sining didn’t know which country’s vessel the Whaling Ship belonged to, but the painful cries of the giant whale sounded so sharp and piercing to Huo Sining; it felt as if the harpoon did not pierce through the whale but through her own heart.

The seawater was turning red, with large amounts of blood pouring from the whale’s body, the thick scent of blood filling the air.

The giant whale continued its painful cries: “Moo—”

Huo Sining hesitated a moment, then patted the dolphin’s back, gently soothing it, signaling to find a way to approach the giant whale.

The dolphin was somewhat apprehensive, circling on the surface several times, unwilling to advance. Huo Sining had no choice but to use Spiritual Energy as bait. In the face of this huge temptation, the dolphin finally relented, cautiously approaching the giant whale.

At this moment, the whale suddenly changed direction. With a long, mournful cry, it charged straight at the fishing vessel.

Seeing this, the fishing vessel hastily reversed direction, rapidly changing course, but it was already too late by then.

The massive shape of the whale battered the water, sending towering waves crashing as its body tilted slightly, moving with the waves towards the whaling ship, pressing against the side of the vessel, nearly capsizing it in the stormy seas.

The impact caused the ship to tremble violently. Although it was not a sailing ship, the vessel still suffered significant damage.

Only then did Huo Sining realize, observing the whale’s long, slender body and its blue-gray back and tail fin, that this enormous creature was actually a blue whale!

Blue whales are considered the largest known whales to have ever existed on Earth and are currently the largest mammals. Their ideal habitat is where warm and cold ocean currents meet, which is typically rich in plankton and krill, the primary diet of blue whales.

Usually, blue whales need to dive over 100 meters deep to feed during the day, coming to the surface to feed at night and sometimes consuming squid and other fish.

Huo Sining estimated that this whale was probably following plankton and schools of fish after detecting temperature changes in ocean currents post-volcanic eruption.

An adult blue whale generally measures between 20 to 30 meters in length, but this whale was only a little over ten meters long. It seemed it hadn’t reached maturity, merely an immature young whale.

The entire body of a blue whale is a light blue or mouse gray color, with light speckled patterns on its back, white spots on the ****, more than 20 pleats under its belly, extending to the navel, accompanied by ochre-yellow spots.

Unlike other whale species, the body of the blue whale is streamlined, resembling a razor, and hence is also referred to as a “razor whale.”

Due to its size, the blue whale’s power is immense, generating between 1500 to 1700 horsepower, making it undoubtedly a giant and a powerhouse in the animal kingdom.

Watching the young whale recklessly crash into the whaling ship, it was evident its anger had reached its peak.

Huo Sining had the dolphin quietly approach her, with a simple purpose.

She couldn’t stand to see such a small young whale being hunted. Seeing the blue whale in such pain, if she didn’t do something about it, she would be tormented by her conscience.

The blue whale remained bent, obviously indicating an injury on one side of its abdomen. The sharp harpoon had pierced its abdomen, causing severe pain; hence the young whale was so frantic and furious.

Thus, Huo Sining wanted to get close to the whale and find a way to approach its abdomen, to remove the harpoon embedded there; otherwise, the poor creature would continue to rage until it bled to death.
