Urban Martial Saint

Ye Qing left the job fair venue helplessly, not even trying with any other company because he couldn’t answer the questions they were asking.

Without a degree or diploma, no contact information, and not even a place to stay, who would you expect to give you a job?

Now it seemed the most critical thing was to first find a place to rent and move into. Living under a bridge couldn’t go on forever; he at least needed a foothold, a place to live before he could think of anything else.

Having wandered around Shenchuan City for more than ten days, Ye Qing had started to get a bit more familiar with the area. Renting was not cheap here, and most of the housing was controlled by agencies, which would cost even more money to rent through them.

Ye Qing didn’t have much money and he didn’t want to waste it, so he specifically looked for small advertisements on the streets. Private renting notices posted by individuals were often much more convenient than dealing with agents.

Of course, there were also plenty of scammers with these private renting notices. But was Ye Qing afraid of scammers? It should be the scammers who were afraid of him!

After looking around for a while, Ye Qing actually found a rental advertisement for a roommate. The notice was not complete; the bottom notes had been ripped off, and only the address could be seen, but the price seemed quite reasonable.

Ye Qing tore off the rental notice and followed the address it listed.

On the other side, Fang Tingyun just got off work and returned home, only to see several sleazy-looking men knocking on her door.

Fang Tingyun was surprised, as the residents of her home were all girls, and it was rare for men to come over, let alone such sleazy ones. What on earth were these people doing?

”Excuse me, make way,” Fang Tingyun said as she went to open the door with her key, and the sleazy men’s gazes immediately grew much more eager.

”Beauty, you live here?” one of the men said, excitedly.

”What’s the matter?” Fang Tingyun frowned, disgusted by the way these men seemed like they wanted to strip her bare with their eyes.

”Aren’t you looking for a roommate?” the man said with excitement, ”I’m here to roommate, what do you think of me?”

”Huh?” Fang Tingyun was stunned and looked at the man incredulously, ”You... you’re here to roommate?”

”Me too, me too!” another man chimed in.

”I was the first one here.”

”That doesn’t matter, it’s all about whether we hit it off or not. What’s the use of being first? Hey, beauty, you look very familiar; have we met somewhere before?”

”Stop trying to make connections. If you ask me, whoever pays more gets to stay!”

”What good is your money? Look at you, you’re the spitting image of a grandson. A complete idiot, what use are you? Beauty, I’m a fitness coach, very strong!”

The men were all falling over each other to claim the spot, and from their conversation alone, it was clear what these men had in mind. Especially the last one, the fitness coach, bragging about his strength, was almost boasting about his stamina.

Fang Tingyun was on the verge of breaking down, ”We are looking for a roommate, but only for girls. Are you... Are you girls?”

”Looking for girls?” The men were taken aback. One of them pulled out the advertisement, ”It doesn’t say that here!”

”How can it not say that?” As Fang Tingyun snatched the advertisement and took a look, her expression suddenly changed.

Part of the advertisement was torn off, and it was precisely the key remark section that was missing. The remark stated that only girls were wanted, but that part was torn off!

Fang Tingyun was almost breaking down. Who would do such a thing? Wasn’t this tricking people?

”This isn’t complete. It says here we’re only looking for girls. Please leave for now!” said Fang Tingyun.

”How can that be? Since we’ve come all this way, you can’t just send us away now,” a man said discontentedly.

”Right, if it doesn’t say so here, then there’s no such rule. Let us in!”

”We’ve come all the way to the door, aren’t you going to invite us in for a cup of tea? That’s just unacceptable!”

Fang Tingyun was surrounded by the men and someone even started to get handsy. With a scream from Fang Tingyun, the door suddenly opened, and as the men turned to look, two brooms struck blindly, causing the men to back off immediately.

”Xiao Fangfang, come back quickly!” A girl pulled Fang Tingyun back into the room and immediately closed the door.

Outside, the men kept knocking on the door, looking quite persistent.

Hidden behind the door, Fang Tingyun exhaled deeply and turned to look at the two girls next to her, the one with the baby face, Chen Keai, and the glamorous Huo Pingping.

”How could this happen?” asked Fang Tingyun, disheartened.

”Oh come on, isn’t it obvious? Someone couldn’t resist tearing off our rental notice!” Huo Pingping said indignanty.

Chen Keai pouted, ”These guys have been standing at the door for two hours, and they just won’t leave. I have to work night shift in a bit. What are we going to do if this goes on?”

”Let me tell you, we absolutely cannot open the door right now. These lousy men are acting like they’ve gone mad. If we open the door, they’ll just rush in!” Huo Pingping said.

”But we can’t just stay in the house forever, can we?” Chen Keai blinked her beautiful big eyes and suggested, ”Should we call the police?”

”Call the police? Do you want to bring that old landlady here, too?” Huo Pingping glared, saying, ”If the police really come, we’ll become famous, and it’ll be hard to rent this place out in the future. Plus, you know what that old landlady is like. If the police show up, she’ll come over and give us an earful again!”

”So what do we do then? Are we just going to hole up at home and never go out?” Chen Keai was very frustrated.

”Ah, if only I had seriously learned Taekwondo when I was in college!” Huo Pingping looked up and sighed, ”If I had mastered it, by now I would have given them a good beating, and we wouldn’t be blocked in our own home, right?”

At the same time, Ye Qing had also arrived at the entrance of the corridor and found the door according to the address.

Seeing five or six men at the door, Ye Qing was surprised. He walked over, checked the door number, and looked at the address in his hand, confirming it was the right place. He reached out to knock on the door but was stopped by the fitness coach with a hand.

”What’s up? What’s up? What’s up?” the coach glared and said, ”Don’t you know what ’first come, first served’ means? Don’t you know the rules? Don’t you know about waiting in line?”

”You... are you all here to rent the place too?” Ye Qing was puzzled. With so many people renting, why were they all standing outside?

”Just beat it, and fast!” another man said displeased, ”The place is only for girls, you’ve got no chance!”

”Only for girls?” Ye Qing looked at the rental notice and said, ”It doesn’t say so here.”

”Didn’t you see a piece missing at the bottom? It’s written there. Just scram, don’t waste time here!”

Ye Qing scratched his head, turned to leave, but suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned to look at the men, frowning, ”If they’re only looking for a girl, what are you guys doing here?”

The men exchanged glances, and the fitness coach approached with his chest puffed out, saying, ”Kid, why all the questions? We already told you, it’s only for girls, so get lost.”

”If it’s only for girls, then why aren’t you leaving?” Ye Qing stuck with the same question.

”Who the hell do you think you are? We like being here, what are you gonna do about it?” The coach, who was half a head taller than Ye Qing, looked at him menacingly and said, ”What, got a problem with that?”

”Let’s leave together,” Ye Qing said softly. He could tell that these guys were just squatting here. Although he didn’t know the situation inside, since he stumbled upon this, he wanted to help the people inside.

”Mind your own business! Get lost, and don’t make a fuss, you want me to hit you?” another man said angrily.

Ye Qing was even more certain that these men were troublemakers. He narrowed his eyes slightly and said softly, ”Let’s all leave together.”

”Screw off!” One brute swung his foot at Ye Qing.

Ye Qing punched the bottom of his foot, and the brute stumbled back several steps, unable to stand steady on that leg anymore.

”Oh my God, it hurts, it hurts so much…” the man kept yelling.

The others were taken aback for a moment before the fitness coach bellowed, ”Looking for trouble, are you? I’ll crush you!”

The coach, muscular as he was, swung his fists like sandbags towards Ye Qing’s chest.

Ye Qing didn’t dodge or evade, his hands moved in unison, grabbing the coach’s robust arms.

The coach was strong, but once Ye Qing had hold of him, his arms seemed to be stuck in a crevice, completely immobile.

Ye Qing looked at the coach with a cold gaze, suddenly stepped forward, and rammed his shoulder into the coach’s chest. The coach was sent flying into the wall behind, screaming in pain.

The rest of them were stunned. If the fitness coach was so weak, wouldn’t it be suicidal for them to step up?

Inside the room, Chen Keai said curiously, ”Eh, listen, doesn’t it sound like there’s a fight outside?”

Fang Tingyun and Huo Pingping both moved closer to the door. The clattering outside did not last long, followed by an authoritative ”Scram,” and then silence. After a full thirty seconds, another voice finally spoke up.

”The people outside have left, don’t worry anymore.”

Fang Tingyun’s face changed, that voice so familiar!

In a hurry, Fang Tingyun reached out to open the door, Chen Keai’s face changed, urgently saying, ”What are you doing? He’s fooling you, do you actually believe it, trying to lure you to open the door!”

”Move!” Fang Tingyun shouted for the first time, Chen Keai got frightened, immediately retracted her hand and stepped aside, looking at Fang Tingyun in surprise.

Fang Tingyun stepped out the door to find the corridor empty.

Unwilling to give up, Fang Tingyun hurried down the stairs and from afar saw a man in a military uniform slowly walking away.

Fang Tingyun’s heart skipped a beat, disregarding everything else, she shouted, ”Ye Qing!”

Ye Qing heard the shout and turned to lock eyes with Fang Tingyun.

Seeing this face that appeared in her dreams every night, in an instant, Fang Tingyun could not hold back her tears, which streamed down her jade-like cheeks.
