Urban Martial Saint

For five consecutive days, Ye Qing had been searching for his brother’s whereabouts in Shenchuan City. During these five days, every day, Ye Qing would destroy one such stronghold. In the span of five days, five strongholds were consecutively destroyed by Ye Qing, and more than fifty people were incapacitated by him, turning them into disabled persons.

In the first three days, Ye Qing didn’t encounter many people. By the later stages, it seemed that Brother Lin had become wary and sent quite a few people over to try to deal with Ye Qing. However, the results were always the same; they were no match for Ye Qing, and he ended up incapacitating a few more people.

Nevertheless, over the course of five days, Ye Qing still hadn’t received the slightest news of his brother, Ye Jun. For him, the greatest gain during these days was actually the Breathing Technique from the Acupoint Seeking Technique; he even faintly felt the sensation of qi flowing through his meridians. And that was a precursor to the hidden presence of Internal Breath.

This situation surprised Ye Qing because Neijia Kung Fu is the most time-consuming of all. Generally, it would take decades for someone to make an achievement in the practice of Neijia Kung Fu. Even just feeling the qi flow could take a year or two. Ye Qing didn’t consider himself a genius, as this isn’t something a genius can achieve; it has to be the result of accumulated effort over time.

Yet, quite contrary, he managed to do it in just a few days, and he couldn’t understand the reason behind it.

However, Ye Qing didn’t want to bother thinking about it and simply attributed his progress to the exquisite secret technique embedded within the Acupoint Seeking Technique.

On the sixth day, when Ye Qing went back to the streets, he could no longer see any disabled beggars.

Ye Qing wandered around the streets for several rounds without finding a single disabled beggar. Until night fell, he came up empty-handed.

This situation persisted, and by the tenth day, Ye Qing still hadn’t seen a single disabled person. He was almost certain that Brother Lin had become frightened and had hidden all the disabled persons away. It seemed that finding his brother temporarily would be difficult.

Yet, in the span of ten days, Ye Qing had spent quite a bit of the money he brought with him. This way, if he couldn’t find the person, he would soon be financially exhausted.

On the eleventh day, after several rounds on the street with nothing to show for it, Ye Qing found himself outside a recruitment fair.

The recruitment fair was packed with people, in the midst of the annual graduation season, with freshly graduated college students bustling about looking for jobs.

Ye Qing stood outside for a while, then entered the venue.

The money he had brought was now running low, and to continue the search here, he had to find a job to sustain himself.

Inside, there was a lot of noise, with most of the men in suits and the women dressed to the nines. When it comes to job hunting, academic qualifications and abilities are certainly important, but the first impression is also crucial.

”Hey, what are you doing? Wandering around here for?” a man dressed in a security uniform grabbed Ye Qing and said, ”Hurry up and help maintain some order over there, there are too many people, and things might get out of hand!”

Ye Qing looked at the man in surprise and said, ”Me, go?”

”No kidding, if not you, then who, me?” the man glared and said, ”What are you staring at? Get moving! You’re here to work as security, not to sightsee!”

Ye Qing: ”I’m not a security guard...”

”Ah?” The man was taken aback, looking at Ye Qing’s clothes. Ye Qing’s military attire stood out in the crowd, like a crane among chickens.

Indeed, Ye Qing’s attire didn’t really match, but in this crowd, he was a bit too conspicuous. The man became very embarrassed, quickly bent over, and said, ”Sorry, sorry, my mistake, I am truly sorry.”

Ye Qing shrugged his shoulders and turned to continue looking around.

The man, however, was utterly confused, watching Ye Qing’s retreating figure, and muttered, ”Coming to look for a job dressed like that? What a joke!”

Ye Qing walked to another area where there were more people, seeing a recruitment booth far grander than the others, obviously much larger. A sign above read as Lin Corporation’s Guangye Branch Company recruitment site, surrounded by a crowd of people, suggesting that the enterprise must be quite remarkable to draw in so many.

Seeing so many people, Ye Qing decided not to enter. He turned away and took another round; with his current situation, finding a security guard job would be most suitable. However, it seemed there were no security positions available here. Moreover, if he took a security job, he wouldn’t be able to run about searching for his brother, Ye Jun.

Ye Qing would prefer a job that allowed him to travel all over the place.

”I’m telling you, don’t bother with those small companies. What strength can they have? They just make some small components, nothing technical involved. Usually, they hire farmers, take in college graduates as salespeople, who then run around all day chasing business. Would you be willing to do that?”

A young man was advising his friend, but Ye Qing overheard, and an idea sparked in his mind. Running around all day — wasn’t that exactly the kind of job he wanted?

Immediately, Ye Qing turned his head to scan the area, and after comparing for several rounds within, he found a rather shabby recruitment booth. There was barely anyone around, and the graduates were avoiding the place as if afraid of lowering their own value by association with the recruiters there.

But this was exactly what Ye Qing was looking for, so he approached. The two people behind the recruitment desk were nearly asleep until Ye Qing coughed twice, rousing them to attention.

”Ah, please have a seat, please sit,” a plump woman casually gestured. As she looked up to see Ye Qing, she was taken aback and said, ”Sorry, we’re not hiring security guards here.”

”I’m not here to apply for the security guard position,” Ye Qing said, ”Are you hiring salespeople?”

The chubby woman sized Ye Qing up and down. Being a salesperson was actually a tough job, especially for small companies like theirs. Recruiting a salesperson was even more difficult. What’s more, the salary offered by their boss was pretty low, so they hadn’t really expected to attract anyone to the position today. Yet, to their surprise, someone had just come knocking on their door?

”We’re hiring salespeople, but may I ask what your educational background is?” the man beside her asked immediately.

”Bachelor’s degree,” Ye Qing replied honestly. In truth, he had done more than just complete a bachelor’s degree. During his four years at university, he had minored in two subjects, earning a total of three diplomas. Throughout his college years, he was the legendary top student at Northern University.

”Bachelor’s degree?” The man sized Ye Qing up and down. Judging by Ye Qing’s attire, he didn’t look like he had a bachelor’s degree. Besides, even those with associate degrees were reluctant to linger in their company. What kind of joke was it for a bachelor’s degree holder to come here?

”Which university’s bachelor’s degree?” The chubby woman asked with a sneer, barely stopping short of asking if it was elementary school.

”Northern University,” Ye Qing replied, still honest.

Finally, the man and the chubby woman couldn’t help but break into laughter, though it was quite impolite, they had no intention of being courteous with Ye Qing anymore.

”What’s so funny?” An icy voice suddenly interrupted, causing the chubby woman and the man to instantly shut their mouths and sit up straight.

Ye Qing looked up to see a cold-beautiful woman walking over. The woman was around one meter seventy tall and wore a black suit and white shirt on top, and a professional short skirt on the bottom, exuding a capable aura. However, her gaze was too cold, creating a sense of distance. Compounded with her heroic-looking face and attire, she was the epitome of an urban ”queen” character.

When the woman approached, the man immediately stood up, barely suppressing his laughter as he said, ”Manager, he claims he graduated from Northern University.”

This woman was none other than Mu Qingrong, the general manager of the Shenchuan Materials Company, and its owner.

Mu Qingrong didn’t laugh. She turned to look at Ye Qing and said, ”Can you show me your diploma and graduation certificate?”

”I didn’t bring them,” Ye Qing said truthfully. He hadn’t planned on bringing his graduation documents since he was actually out to find someone, not to apply for a job.

”Don’t you have them, or did you just not bring them?” the chubby woman couldn’t resist asking teasingly.

Mu Qingrong gave her a look, and she immediately shut her mouth, though her eyes still held a mocking expression.

”I didn’t bring them,” Ye Qing answered sincerely.

Mu Qingrong frowned slightly as she considered Ye Qing, ”You came to a job fair, yet you didn’t bring your graduation certificate and diploma?”

”I didn’t intend to come to the job fair initially. I just happened to pass by and thought I’d have a look,” Ye Qing explained.

Despite his honesty, his response was grating to Mu Qingrong’s ears. How could someone attend a job fair—a significant event—unprepared and on a whim? What could such a person accomplish? If they hired him, he’d just be loafing around in the company, unable to contribute anything meaningful.

Still, Mu Qingrong remained polite. She nodded and said, ”Since that’s the case, leave your contact information. When you have your graduation certificate and diploma, you can visit our company.”

Ye Qing: ”I don’t have any contact information.”

Mu Qingrong: ”Then leave an address.”

”I... I don’t have an address...” Ye Qing was quite frustrated. Did living under a bridge count as an address? Going past the old bridge’s east end to the third bridge hole—such an address, if disclosed, would probably get him kicked out immediately. Wasn’t that where homeless people lived?

Mu Qingrong couldn’t help but look up at Ye Qing again. She had always believed that it was impossible for someone to have everything perfect, but to come with absolutely nothing prepared was just too much. Not bringing a graduation certificate and diploma to a job fair was understandable. But having no contact information or address? Was he an alien? How was anyone supposed to get in touch with him?

Ye Qing himself felt awkward and stood up to apologize before turning to leave indifferently.

”Hahaha...” The chubby woman couldn’t hold back her laughter any longer, and the man struggled to contain his own. Only Mu Qingrong frowned in response.

After a whole day at the job fair, the first person to inquire turned out to be like this? Could it be that the company was doomed?
