Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 288: Chapter 270: Doubts in the Capital City

”Someone’s watching us?” Xu Tianyi suddenly wrapped his arms around Luo Qianqian as she asked in a low voice.

”Don’t speak.” Xu Tianyi, peering through his sunglasses, had spotted the person and was nervously sweating palms as he tightly hugged Luo Qianqian and swayed. He spoke in a voice that was not loud but could be heard by those nearby, ”Lili ah, wouldn’t it be nicer to go back and sleep? What sort of lousy movie is this?”

Luo Qianqian was initially startled by Xu Tianyi’s odd tone but quickly played along with a delicate voice, ”Brother Wang, you’re so bad, not agreeing to be romantic with me. Are you disgusted by me?” Luo Qianqian wore mismatched sneakers, clearly chosen for the ease of running away.

”How could I? I just love you, this little look of yours.” Xu Tianyi planted a fierce kiss on Luo Qianqian’s face and laughed heartily as he waved down a car: ”Whatever you want to watch, we’ll watch.”

Luo Qianqian’s cheeks flushed red, but it was hard to tell under the cover of her hair.

Once in the car, Luo Qianqian punched Luo Shufan hard. Although Luo Shufan knew why, he didn’t say anything, and just smiled with his lips curved up.

Looking through her phone, Luo Qianqian told Luo’s Mom not to go back home for now; she would come back if there was an issue. Then she turned to Xu Tianyi, ”I need to find my brother. You can’t contact anyone over there, nor tell anyone about our whereabouts, or else I won’t take you with me.”

Xu Tianyi nodded, ”I have no money. So I’ll listen to you.” He was in such a hurry when he left that he didn’t bring any money or even a change of clothes. Everything was at Tang Chen’s place. With that in mind, he sent Tang Chen a message saying he had some urgent matters and wouldn’t be returning for the time being.

Tang Chen, who was aware of what his cousin usually busied himself with, replied with a message that he knew and then went back to figuring out his upcoming school arrangements. He was also aware of the affairs of the Luo Family and feared another mishap.

”Brother Wang, is Lili’s face full of the scent of makeup products?” In reality, Luo Qianqian had not applied anything to her face; she was naturally beautiful and young.

Touching his face, ”No, that’s a natural fragrance,” Xu Tianyi said with a serious look as he turned his head.

Luo Qianqian suppressed the urge to curse, ”Inform me next time.” Even if they were pretending to be a young couple to slip by, there was no need to be so daring, right?

Xu Tianyi nodded, feeling the warmth on his face, smiling softly, ”Lili ah, when Brother Wang has money, I’ll buy you delicious treats.”

Luo Qianqian fell silent, looking at her wristwatch; they likely wouldn’t run into Luo Yanhai.

If they did, it would be difficult to explain, and they would probably be sent back home or taken to the Luo Family to be kept out of this matter. Thinking of her brother, Luo Qianqian clenched her fists tightly.

”Damn, why are there people everywhere?” Xu Tianyi cursed softly as soon as he got off the car, noticing the odd individuals around them who clearly had a demeanor unlike average travellers.

”Brother won’t be in trouble, will he?” Luo Qianqian frowned but still purchased plane tickets; to avoid being detected in the waiting room, they even spent a fortune on business class tickets.

”He shouldn’t be, the departure time for the last flight was half an hour ago, and he probably left on that one,” Xu Tianyi said in a soft voice.

Nothing happened after the flight landed, but they couldn’t stay at a hotel. The Han Family was aware of their details too; what if they were to be found by chance?

It suddenly occurred to Luo Qianqian to use the set of keys Second Uncle had given her. She took out the keys, relieved that the place to stay was settled as she looked at the keychain.

”But how can we find out the details?” Sitting in the room, looking at the decor and the books, it was clear that Luo Shufan had also been here.

Xu Tianyi pondered for a moment, ”Luo Yanran.”

Not only was Luo Yanran part of the Luo Family’s direct lineage, but also a public figure. The Han Family wouldn’t do anything to him, and he would know something about the situation.

Luo Qianqian nodded and called Luo Yanran.

”Brother, where are you? What are you doing?”

”Qianqian, I’m in Capital City.” His voice sounded very tired.

”Do you know that my brother is missing? I’m really worried about him, but Grandpa won’t tell me, and I’m so scared.” Luo Qianqian began to cry as she spoke, her choked voice coming through the phone.

”He’s alright, just not at the Han Family’s old residence. The Han Family is refusing to acknowledge it. We’ve already reported it to the police. Uncle is still in the hospital. Qianqian, don’t run around. If anything else happened to you, I really couldn’t take it.” Luo Yanran’s voice was very hoarse, as if he hadn’t slept well.

”Then where could Brother be? He said he would call me.” Luo Qianqian still wouldn’t give up.

”We don’t know that yet, but the surveillance shows he disappeared at the Fourth Military Region. Uncle has already reported it to higher-ups.”

”Got it.”

Luo Qianqian hung up the phone and looked at Xu Tianyi, ”Military Region... How can someone be hidden with so many people there?”

”The most dangerous place is often the safest,” Xu Tianyi squinted his eyes and flipped out a blank notebook, ”First, let’s hire a detective to check out the Han Family’s private residence, in case the surveillance was just a decoy.”

Luo Qianqian made another call to Luo Shufan, but the prompt said it was out of the service area.

”Strange, it was busy earlier.” Luo Qianqian frowned.

”It must have been left somewhere.”

”Can we track the GPS signal on the phone? I remember Uncle boasting when he gave us new phones that he could know where we were going.”

”Right, but even if we did track it, they wouldn’t tell us.” Despite saying this, he still picked up his phone and sent a message.

”Brother...” Luo Qianqian closed her eyes. They were siblings, and although not twins, they were born of the same mother; shouldn’t there be some kind of connection? Alas, closing her eyes for a long while, she felt nothing.

”The phone signal was traced to the Han Family’s place, so that’s why we reported it to the police and searched the Han Family’s place, but we found neither the phone nor him.” Looking at the message, Xu Tianyi narrowed his eyes. How could this be?

”We can’t get into the Han Family’s place, and even if we did, it would be like walking into a tiger’s den.” Luo Qianqi supported his chin, his eyes lighting up after a moment, ”But isn’t it said, ’How can one capture tiger cubs without entering the tiger’s lair’? You could put something on me that could track my location, and then I could attract the Han Family’s attention and find Brother, right?”

”Don’t you even think about it!” Xu Tianyi stood up and roared in response, ”Do you want to see the Luo Family in even more chaos?”

”What else can I do?” Luo Qianqian also stood up, ”My brother is missing now, how do you expect me to just sit back? He’s my brother, my own brother, the closest family member I have other than my mom!”

”Calm down. Maybe it’s not as bad as it seems right now. It hasn’t been long since Luo Shufan called, how could he just vanish without a trace so soon? It’s not logical. Was there anything strange when you took the call?”

”Anything strange?” Luo Qianqian thought hard, clenching her fists so tightly that her nails cut into her palms, before suddenly standing up and saying, ”There was the sound of music, like there was some kind of performance.”

”That doesn’t add up. The message Xu Family sent me earlier said he was taken from the airport, didn’t it?”
