Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 286: Chapter 268: Thunder and Rain - Time to Collect the Clothes!

They had been solving problems all night long, and the next day, the three of them firmly slept until noon before getting up.

”I’m still groggy,” He Wenyu frowned, not understanding what had upset his friend.

Luo Qianqian rolled over in bed, sleepily opened her eyes, then closed them again to continue sleeping. She couldn’t say it was because she was annoyed by Xu Tianyi, could she? Her tightly pursed lips revealed her current mood.

Seeing that the door to his sister’s room was still closed, Luo Yanhai became a bit anxious, ”There isn’t something wrong, is there? It’s already noon.”

”She probably went to sleep late because she had something on her mind,” said Xu Tianyi, his lips curling into a smile. Easily gained things aren’t cherished; besides, it’s a turbulent time now, how could he dare to be candid with her, ”I saw people from the Han family yesterday.”

”The Han family came here?” Luo Yanhai’s eyes widened in disbelief, ”It couldn’t be for Qianqian, could it?”

”Did Old Master Luo not have any news?” Since Xu Tianyi had received a lot of help from the Luo family, he treated Old Master Luo with the respect one would give their own grandfather, adopting the three-generation address.

”My older brother called me and just said to come back early—nothing seemed out of the ordinary,” said Luo Yanhai with a furrowed brow. ”After the last incident, the Han family came to apologize already, and besides, there isn’t any big issue now, could there be?”

”I don’t know. I called the master yesterday to say I’m staying over, staying by Luo Qianqian’s side. Surely no one would dare to harm her,” said Xu Tianyi without revealing his self-interest, making sure his facade was well maintained.

”Tsk tsk,” chuckled Luo Yanhai without saying a word.

”Don’t fall in love too early,” Luo Yanhai teased, his eyes narrowed in a sly, foxlike smile.

”Qianqian, if you don’t get up now, there won’t be any food left!!!” Luo Yanhai, after teasing Xu Tianyi, suddenly shouted loudly.

”Luo Yanhai, get your food ready!!! I want sweet and sour ribs!!! Stop bothering me!!!” Luo Qianqian rubbed her eyes and sat up. She looked at her two friends who were already dressed and lowered her voice, ”Why are you guys up so early...?”

”Look at the time.” He Wenyu pointed at the clock on the desk, and Luo Qianqian narrowed her eyes to take a look.

”What? It’s this late?” Luo Qianqian said in disbelief as she noticed both the hour and minute hands pointing just past twelve.

”You went to sleep after five, did you think it was early? Tell us, what really happened?” He Wenyu picked up a rabbit plushie that Luo Qianqian usually cuddled with when asleep, ready for a fight if the words did not suffice.

Luo Qianqian blinked and couldn’t very well say the truth. Her eyes went round as she looked about, ”I saw someone from the Han family yesterday.”

It wasn’t exactly a lie—after all, her mood had only soured after their appearance, even if it wasn’t the cause. But who could blame them for their bad luck?

He Wenyu had heard about the incident with the Han family, so he looked at Chu Ci and didn’t say anything else.

Chu Ci didn’t seem to feel any particular way either; who doesn’t have a little privacy?

”I’ll head home in a bit and maybe just stay on campus when school starts,” Chu Ci said after some thought.

Luo Qianqian said, ”If you don’t want to go home over the weekend, you can come to my place. There’s hardly anyone home except me and Jingjing.”

Chu Ci nodded and took the new toiletries into the bathroom.

Luo Qianqian looked at the array of items prepared by her mother. Could it be that her mom isn’t afraid of her bringing a bunch of people over for a sleepover or bringing home a boyfriend or something? At this thought, Luo Qianqian clenched her fists. Xu Tianyi, just you wait, I’ll make you fall at the hem of my school uniform skirt!

Xu Tianyi felt a chill down his back, but looking at the bright sun outside, he again thought he might just be overthinking.

”Qianqian, I’m going out for a bit too,” He Wenyu, who had gotten up earliest, had already finished washing up and quietly changed into clean clothes.

Seeing He Wenyu’s tidy outfit and his smile, she realized he must be going on a date. But she didn’t have any reason to stop him. She believed Xiao Yu knew what he was doing and wouldn’t do anything inappropriate, so she just nodded, ”Come back early and bring me something to eat.”

After He Wenyu and Chu Ci had left, Luo Qianqian was left alone munching on a bun that was undoubtedly bought by Luo Yanhai given its enormous size. She couldn’t finish it, and the half that remained would just go uneaten.

”I’ve got some stuff to deal with and will be back late. Call me if you want something specific for dinner,” Luo Yanhai said as he waved his hand and left.

Luo Qianqian continued to gnaw on the bun when suddenly her eyes widened in realization. Now she and Xu Tianyi were the only ones left at home? She was so startled by her own realization that she ended up choking on the bun, coughing violently.

Xu Tianyi passed her a cup of water, gently patting Luo Qianqian’s back, ”What’s wrong? Are you that scared of being alone with me?”

Scared of you!!! Luo Qianqian glared, ”Scared of you? That’s a joke! Aren’t you afraid I’ll overpower you instead?”

At her words, Xu Tianyi amusingly lifted his shirt, looking as though he was about to undress, Luo Qianqian quickly asked, ”What are you doing???”

”Didn’t you say you wanted to overpower me? I’m just going along with it,” Xu Tianyi said seriously.

”You’re being a hooligan!!! Taking off your clothes in front of a girl!!!” Luo Qianqian covered her eyes with her hand, peeking through her fingers at Xu Tianyi’s partly exposed abs, her face turning red in an instant.

”Are you satisfied now?” Xu Tianyi asked softly.

”Satisfied, satisfied,” Luo Qianqian nodded repeatedly, then realized what she had just said and glared at him, ”What am I saying? You’re far from it. Just six packs? My second brother probably has eight, right?”

Xu Tianyi dropped his shirt and poked Luo Qianqian’s forehead hard, ”Don’t say things like that casually to others in the future. Aren’t you afraid people will think you’re easy? What does a kid know about such things?”

I can be as improper as I want. Luo Qianqian wanted to retort with this thought but seeing Xu Tianyi’s serious gaze, she remained silent and just nodded quietly.

She inwardly cursed her own timidity. Why couldn’t she speak up at the sight of his stern, yet not quite severe, gaze? It must be love is blind, she thought resentfully, counting on the fact that he knew she, Luo Qianqian, was quite fond of him now. Just wait until she found someone better, then she wouldn’t need him anymore!!!

”Dump me as soon as you find someone better?” Xu Tianyi narrowed his eyes with a dangerous look at Luo Qianqian.

Luo Qianqian was stunned. Had she accidentally spoken her thoughts out loud?

”Boom, rattle...” Just as Xu Tianyi said yesterday, today was indeed not a good day. It was sunny in the morning, and now it suddenly became overcast, with lightning flashing and thunder roaring.

Luo Qianqian immediately dropped the half-eaten bun and darted back to her room, diving under the covers.

Fearing that a bolt of lightning might whisk her away to some unknown time again.

Xu Tianyi watched Luo Qianqian run off amusingly, squinted his eyes towards the window, smiled, and then knocked on Luo Qianqian’s door, ”Come out and study.”

As he spoke, he turned on the TV, turned up the volume, and made sure all the windows and the doors to the kitchen and bathroom were securely closed.

Luo Qianqian piled the blankets over herself, muttering under her breath, ”Won’t listen, won’t listen, the toad’s reciting scriptures...”
