Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 270: Chapter 252: Military Training

Looking at the huge sun, Luo Shufan could understand why his sister insisted that he bring sunscreen, even warning him that if he turned as black as charcoal during military training, he wasn’t allowed to come home. Dragging his suitcase, he entered the airport, waved goodbye to An Zilan and Lin Xu, and embarked on his journey to study.

At this moment, Luo Qianqian was suffering miserably from motion sickness. Why had nobody told her it was so far away?

”Qianqian, have some water.” Chu Ci looked sympathetically at the pale-faced Luo Qianqian and fished out the chilled water she bought in the morning from her backpack, though it had turned to room temperature by now.

”If we don’t get there soon, I’m going to throw up.” Luo Qianqian waved her hand, finally feeling the car slowing down as if coming to a stop.

Looking at the scenery outside, Luo Qianqian felt even less energetic. No wonder her brother had told her to bring so much food and fruit, even giving her a handful of change and not allowing her to bring much money—there really was nowhere to buy anything.

Line up, allocate dormitories. Luo Qianqian felt a bit embarrassed looking at her suitcase that was two sizes larger than everyone else’s. Aside from a small portion of clothes, the rest was food—mostly beef jerky and conveniently storable apples, a small box of cherries, a few boxes of spare medicine, and in her backpack, skincare products, toiletries, and sanitary products.

”It didn’t seem like much in the car just now, but looking at it now, your suitcase is way too big.” Chu Ci spoke softly; she knew what was inside since she had also followed Luo Shufan’s advice and packed a lot of fruit, enough to last these days.

”No worries, they’ll know once they get hungry.” Luo Qianqian’s suitcase was locked, she wasn’t afraid of anyone snooping.

Luo Qianqian was grateful to be short and to be lined up at the back. She ended up being assigned to the next dormitory with Chu Ci and two other girls, sharing with another class—coincidentally Xiao Yu’s class, right in the same room as Xiao Yu and Li Qi.

”You two bought your suitcases together, right?” Li Qi said as she looked at the huge suitcase, the same as He Wenyu’s, and her lips twitched. She also had packed a lot of fruit and snacks, but nothing as extreme as these two.

”What’s more extreme is in my bag.” He Wenyu leaned in mysteriously towards the others, ”I have cake in my bag.”

Pff, they all spat out their water. Is this military training? It is military training, right? Why would someone bring cake?

After arriving at the dormitory, Luo Qianqian and Chu Ci chose the lower bunks next to each other, while He Wenyu chose the upper bunks with Li Qi, since they could sleep together anyway.

Then, as He Wenyu opened her backpack, Luo Qianqian really wanted to spit out a mouthful of old blood.

It wasn’t just cake she brought but more than one; the boxes were neatly stacked, with gaps stuffed with energy bars and candy chocolate.

”Where’s your sunscreen?” Luo Qianqian, who was helping He Wenyu pack her suitcase, was sure there was no sunscreen in there.

”I knew I forgot something. I couldn’t remember it this morning either,” He Wenyu slapped her forehead, looking embarrassed, but then she quickly said, ”No problem, I don’t get tanned.”

Provoking envy... Luo Qianqian thought speechlessly.

”What about your toiletries? Your towel, toothbrush, and facial cleanser?” Seeing He Wenyu pulling out a toothbrush from her water bottle, Luo Qianqian was momentarily speechless, admiring her space-saving skills, but then frowned at He Wenyu, ”What are you doing with a water bottle?”

”For drinking water, didn’t Brother say there would be hot water?” He Wenyu replied as if it were obvious.

Luo Qianqian nodded wordlessly, ”Then what about your towel, toothpaste, facial cleanser, comb, and toothbrush cup?”

”Didn’t you bring them?” He Wenyu grinned, ”I know you brought two towels. If that doesn’t work, I can use tissues. I don’t mind using your strawberry-flavored toothpaste. For a toothbrush cup, I plan to eat the pudding and use that instead—it’s so convenient to just throw away after. And you have facial cleanser too.”

”...You win,” Luo Qianqian’s tone was dejected as she finally spoke, ”But you’ll probably have to eat all that today because it might spoil by tomorrow. This is a military training base, not home, and it’s so hot.”

”I know,” He Wenyu nodded, ”I plan to eat it before washing up tonight.”

So much trouble for a day’s cravings, and yet, not bringing any toiletries? Luo Qianqian was speechless.

He Wenyu looked aggrieved; she couldn’t say that she had forgotten the small bag that even contained toiletries and sunscreen. It was too embarrassing. She also wouldn’t mention that those were supposed to be her breakfast for the next few days, oblivious to the heat. But she couldn’t say it out loud.

”Hurry up and pack your things; I heard we’re being divided into classes soon. Hopefully, we’ll be together,” Li Qi also let out a sigh. It was so hot that if Luo Qianqian hadn’t reminded her, she wouldn’t have brought sunscreen. Now it seemed Luo Qianqian was totally right.

”We should be together, since we’re all girls,” Luo Qianqian said with a smile, nodding her head. But inside, a flicker of doubt passed through her mind. Ever since earlier, she had the feeling someone was watching her. Even though she hadn’t closed the door, she could see that there was no one in the hallway.

——

”You little rascal, you’ve really done it this time, even daring to barge in here,” Luo Yanhai said with a helpless expression as he looked at the boy opposite him.

”Didn’t second brother come to lead the military training during his vacation just because he heard about Qianqian’s training?” Xu Tianyi squinted his eyes: ”My duty is to protect her.”

”Why don’t you go protect Luo Shufan? He’s in more danger, you know?” Luo Yanhai glared, his eyes widening. Was it really okay to talk so openly about using his power for personal gain?

”Like repels like,” Xu Tianyi curved a corner of his mouth into a smile. ”This place isn’t bad; I’ll stay here a few days.” With that, he lay down on the single bed in Luo Yanhai’s quarters.

”I’m also of the same gender as you,” Luo Yanhai said, narrowing his eyes—a sign of danger.

Xu Tianyi sat up, his face unconcerned: ”It’s a task given by the Luo Family. You’re still complaining about me being this serious and responsible? Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell Master on you?”

”I don’t believe anyone would dare bully my sister right under my nose. Your coming here is superfluous!” Luo Yanhai said speechlessly, grabbing an apple from the table and tossing it at Xu Tianyi.

”Really?” Xu Tianyi said, then fell silent, tossing the apple in his hand.

Luo Yanhai was very helpless: ”You haven’t met her yet?”

”Would I still be here if I had?” Xu Tianyi tossed the apple back into Luo Yanhai’s arms: ”I won’t go back on a promise.”

Luo Yanhai sat down, a look of incomprehension on his face: ”I just don’t understand, how have you changed so much?”

Xu Tianyi didn’t speak and lay back down on the bed, looking towards the pristine white wall.

”I knew you couldn’t fart after all this talking. Don’t run around and I’ll agree to let you stay,” Luo Yanhai nodded reluctantly.

Xu Tianyi nodded his head.

——

”Wow, that soldier brother is so handsome,” He Wenyu pointed at a row of instructors in front of her. Luo Qianqian looked over—they all looked equally tanned, how could she tell who was handsome?

”Which one are you talking about?” Luo Qianqian asked quietly.

”That one walking this way,” He Wenyu pointed in that direction, her face full of disdain: ”Do you need glasses too?”

Luo Qianqian’s gaze moved past a row of instructors, and towards the back, her mouth opened in surprise—that person? Second brother?

Luo Yanhai, seeing Luo Qianqian’s astonished face, smiled quite smugly.

Luo Qianqian lowered her head. It was over; there was no way to slack off now. In the military camp, although her brothers were protective, they were very strict with her in training, never easing up on the requirements, even being harsher. Luo Qianqian even felt that the past two years’ demands had already surpassed other soldiers’...

”Damn, that’s my brother,” Luo Qianqian said softly.
