Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 256: Chapter 239: Collective Sick Leave

Luo Shufan, when he saw the message from his sister saying she was waiting for him at the school gate, didn’t even wait for the few minutes left until class was dismissed and used the excuse of needing to use the bathroom to leave. He didn’t even grab his backpack.

”What’s wrong? You have such a serious look on your face,” Luo Shufan observed his sister, who didn’t have the cheerful demeanor of someone who had spent the day playing. He furrowed his brow, ”Did you lose your wallet? Be more careful next time.”

”I didn’t lose it,” Luo Qianqian was speechless. What, so her unhappiness must be about money?

”Then what’s the problem with you two? And you even ran to the school gate? Did you lose the keys?” Luo Shufan touched his head and hunched his shoulders. It was very cold, but since he had used the bathroom excuse to come out, he didn’t think it was appropriate to bring his coat.

He Wenyu was also speechless, glancing at Luo Qianqian before finally speaking, ”We didn’t lose anything.”

”Don’t mention it, brother, when do you finish school?” Luo Qianqian looked completely at a loss. ”Facing this situation, I don’t know what to do.”

”Finish school? There are two more classes, after all, it’s the weekend.” He finished speaking and stared at the two of them. ”What exactly happened? If you don’t tell me, how am I supposed to know?”

”My grandma passed away,” He Wenyu finally said.

Luo Shufan was stunned. The image of that haughty old lady came to mind, and he quickly shook his head to cast out the unpleasant memories before asking confusedly, ”Isn’t that good news?” Only after a moment did he realize that no matter what, that was He Wenyu’s blood relation. It seemed a bit disrespectful to say such a thing. ”I didn’t mean that...”

”Then what did you mean?” Luo Qianqian watched her brother falter and couldn’t help feeling gleeful, but still she spoke up to clear the air, ”It was because she was pushed by He Juncai and died. That person is already in our city now; he has even visited our godmother and is demanding money.”

”What? Xiao Yu, you should take leave; if he doesn’t get the money, he might try to make trouble for you.” Luo Shufan’s face was an image of terror. ”Anyway, studying at home won’t be any less effective than at school. We’re here.”

”You’re so full of yourself,” Luo Qianqian shook her head. ”The real issue is that godmother has left the shop to Xiao Mei for a few days, mom has also closed her shop, and my question is, how has our city degraded so much compared to a few years ago that he could pinpoint godmother’s shop so accurately? And hasn’t the color of the walls of that building been changed twice already?”

Only then did He Wenyu realize why Luo Qianqian was so strongly urging their parents to leave. She went pale. Could this cousin be some kind of memory genius? Then she shook her head. That was absolutely impossible. If he really had such talents, he would’ve been at the top of his class in school already; why would he need to drop out?

”You mean...” Luo Shufan was dumbfounded. Who would have the capacity to find Xiao Yu’s distant relative and create such trouble? There was a life at stake here...

”I suspect...” Luo Qianqian shook her head. She also felt it was unlikely that someone would go to such lengths, but the facts were right in front of her. How could she not believe it?

”Xiao Yu, you should call your grandma or someone and ask about your cousin’s mom’s background, to see if it was her idea.” Luo Qianqian pursed her lips, looking towards her brother. ”Brother, what should we do?”

Luo Shufan looked heavenward, speechless. How would he know? He was just an ordinary high school student.

”What is this cousin nonsense? And his own mom? It’s such a mess...” Luo Shufan shook his head, hearing the bell signaling the end of class and whispered, ”I’ll go ask for leave. You guys wait here for me.”

He Wenyu was on the phone on the side, while Luo Qianqian was looking at the teaching building of Experimental High School, watching the experimental building that was still under construction. By next year when she attended school, it would certainly be completed, right? It’s just a pity, she didn’t know if Yi Muhuan would have the chance to use this building.

”Qianqian, she’s just an ordinary older girl... meaning she’s older and still not married. I don’t know how she ended up with my grand-uncle...” Xiao Yu ended the call with an embarrassed look on her face, ”Grandma told me to keep an eye out for good boys around, to make the first move.”

”Do you need to?” Luo Qianqian meant that you’re not ugly and you have a good personality, so naturally, someone would want you. He Wenyu took it as, you have Zhao Wenxuan, do you still need others?

”She also said I should respect myself, not to have children before marriage, and not to date someone who already has a partner, as it’s too shameful,” He Wenyu continued with a look of embarrassment.

”Quite reasonable,” Luo Qianqian agreed, nodding her head, especially regarding Zhao Wenxuan, that jerk. He didn’t deserve it.

”Qianqian, Xiao Yu, let’s go, Brother Zhuzi is already waiting for us at the market.” Luo Shufan put on his coat and, with his backpack on his back, hurried out, ”I’ll ask for two days off for you next week. Don’t go to school first, Brother Zhuzi and I will stay home with you.” Luo Shufan saw the surprise on his sister’s face and spoke with a helpless look, ”If we’re not at home and you two are, in case someone really comes, we’d still be worried at school. It’s better to stay with you.”

”Bro, you’re the coolest today,” Luo Qianqian affirmed, nodding her head.

”Get out of here,” Luo Shufan said, annoyed as he tapped his sister’s head. He lowered his head and pondered, aside from the Bai brothers, did he have anyone else he could rely on?

Suddenly, a lightbulb went off — Tang Chen. Although he had only met him once, after all, he was sent over by the Luo Family. Perhaps he should make a phone call later to see if there were any acquaintances, after all, ensuring the safety of his family was what he, as the pillar of the household, should do. He couldn’t let his sister worry about everything.

”Qianqian, I just remembered something,” Luo Shufan said. ”Do you know where Xu Tianyi used to live?”

”How would Qianqian know that,” He Wenyu immediately objected. That’s a boy’s place, and besides, he had transferred away a long time ago, she even forgot what he looked like, just remembered he was quite clean and white, like a uke.

”...It’s near our school,” Luo Qianqian lowered her head. She knew because she had been there before.

”Tell me when we get home, I’ll find someone tomorrow,” Luo Shufan nodded and didn’t think too much of it. It wasn’t until dinner that evening that he realized something was off about this and directly grabbed his sister to question her.

”How do you know where his house is?”

”As his deskmate, I helped him deliver homework when he was sick, why can’t I know that? I even know where Brother Zhuzi’s house is...” Speaking of Bai Yizhu’s house, Luo Qianqian’s thoughts immediately went to bloodshed, then to birthdays and Wang Wei, which made her very uncomfortable. Especially after having tomato beef brisket soup for dinner.

That’s when Luo Shufan felt relieved, right, Xu Tianyi had even been to their house, and desks-mate are supposed to be closer. Besides, that kid was indeed someone worth befriending.

Luo Shufan never considered that he had never brought a deskmate or even a classmate home for a meal, let alone to stay over. He simply had a high regard for Xu Tianyi, and back then, he lived by himself, not with his sister, so there was nothing to it.

Years later, Luo Shufan would regret his past decisions.
