Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 257: Chapter 241: Testing Tang Chen

”Is this why you two followed me early in the morning?” Luo Shufan looked at the two little tails sneaking behind him and was speechless for a moment, ”He’s really just a classmate, a year older than you.”

”Then it’s no big deal for us to have a look.” Luo Qianqian firmly grasped the hem of her brother’s clothes, ”If you don’t take us, it means you’re hiding something from us.”

”Go, go, go, stop pulling, it’s cold.” Watching his sister pull his clothes open and the wind leaking in, Luo Shufan shivered from the cold, they could get up for things, but without any matters, they’d laze in bed until the sun was high and not get up, truly two treasures.

”Wouldn’t it be easier to agree earlier?” Luo Qianqian saw her brother relent and quickly stuffed her hands back into her pockets.

So when Bai Yizhu got up to enjoy the sun, he stretched and only then noticed the house was empty, leaving him alone.

”Brother Tang, thank you for yesterday.” After Luo Qianqian brought them to the location, Luo Shufan knocked on the front door, full of gratitude.

”No problem...” Tang Chen nodded awkwardly.

”So you’re Brother Tang, eh? You really are as handsome as my brother described.” Luo Qianqian politely said, ”Won’t Brother Tang invite us in for a sit and a cup of hot tea?”

Luo Qianqian was even more suspicious of people than Luo Shufan; she wouldn’t easily trust someone.

When they entered the room, Luo Qianqian didn’t know if she was being paranoid, but she always felt like the bedroom door was shut, perhaps it was just the wind from the door and she didn’t pay much attention.

”Brother Tang, do you live here alone?” Luo Qianqian asked with a smile, taking the water Tang Chen poured, ”I heard from my brother that Brother Tang is Tianyi’s cousin.”

Tang Chen looked at the little girl in front of him in surprise; although she spoke familiarly, the indifference in her eyes couldn’t be concealed, and he couldn’t help but give a bitter smile, ”Yeah.”

”Brother Tang, let me leave my mobile number with you, so we can hang out when you’re not busy, okay?” Luo Qianqian smiled, reaching out her hand.

Tang Chen instinctively passed his phone to Luo Qianqian, and only after the ringing of Luo Qianqian and Luo Shufan’s phones did he realize something was wrong.

”Is this Brother Tang’s number?” Luo Qianqian asked with a smile, taking out her own phone, her gaze cold, ”It’s different from the one yesterday.” Luo Qianqian revealed a cold look.

Tang Chen was at a loss for words and instinctively glanced towards the tightly closed room but quickly averted his gaze, explaining, ”This is my usual number, that one is for emergency contacts, it’s usually turned off.”

”Is that so?” Luo Qianqian took out Luo Shufan’s phone and directly dialed the number that had texted yesterday, only to hear the disconnected tone from the receiver. She slightly frowned.

”Qianqian, enough, stop it,” Luo Shufan took back the phone and helped to explain, ”After you start high school, it’s Brother Tang who will have to look after you, what are you imagining?”

”I can take care of myself...” Luo Qianqian didn’t finish her sentence when she was interrupted by a glare from Luo Shufan, reluctantly changing her tune, ”Yes, I’ll be troubling Brother Tang from now on.”

”Haven’t you been in contact with Tianyi recently? His number has also been unreachable.” Luo Shufan had tried to contact Xu Tianyi many times, it was initially turned off, then changed to a disconnected service, and in the last few days, it had become an invalid number.

Tang Chen was startled, he checked his phone and after a moment of silence said, ”He must be undergoing intensive training where it’s not convenient to use a cell phone, right? The last time he contacted me, he also used a public phone.”

Like I’d believe that. Luo Qianqian frowned and thought to herself.

”I see, I wonder if Tianyi has lost weight.” Luo Qianqian feigned sadness with a sigh.

”No,” Tang Chen murmured in annoyance, though his expression remained unchanged, ”he must have gained weight or grown stronger. His body should be much healthier now, and his voice is certainly robust.”

”Robust?” Luo Qianqian realized what he meant and spoke with a hint of disdain, ”I still prefer his original crisp voice, soft like the breeze, very comfortable to listen to.”

”Qianqian!” Luo Shufan looked dissatisfied at his sister. Was it appropriate to express fondness for someone else in front of him?

”That’s right, big brother’s voice has changed, and it doesn’t sound nice anymore.” Luo Qianqian nodded earnestly, ”I like pleasant voices. Yes, that’s right, I need to add ’having a pleasant voice’ to my list of requirements for a future boyfriend.”

”Luo Qianqian, shut up and behave yourself,” Luo Shufan said sternly, and Luo Qianqian immediately fell silent.

However, Tang Chen seemed thoughtful, ”Requirements, you mean the ones Luo Yanran talked about?”

”Don’t take it seriously, just child’s play,” Luo Shufan hurriedly joked, trying to gloss over the matter, but inside he was annoyed that she could say just about anything.

”Brother Tang, you know my Fourth Brother?” Luo Qianqian asked in surprise.

Tang Chen nodded, ”Thanks to the help of the Luo Family’s uncle, I was able to transfer here.”

”I knew it.” Luo Qianqian’s guard dropped instantly, aware that Luo Yanran also knew Luo Xiying and, crucially, was familiar with Xu Tianyi, even living in the house Tianyi once occupied. Bai Yixian, too, probably knew him, which meant he was a harmless character.

Watching how easily her sister let down her guard and started drinking water, Luo Shufan was at a loss for words. Was it good that she had vigilance, or was she too easily lured away?

”You don’t need to worry about that person, someone is indeed behind him,” Tang Chen hesitated for a moment before revealing.

”He Juncai?” He Wenyu also perked up.

”Seems like that was the name,” Tang Chen murmured softly, then looked at the three of them, ”You don’t need to worry about such minor characters. Descendants of the Luo family... and their friends won’t be harmed easily.”

”That includes me by the way... but then, how should I explain this to Dad and Mom?” He Wenyu made a face but wasn’t truly discouraged.

”Don’t tell them, it’s just as well, I’m worn out these days. I need to sleep in, otherwise there’s no way to explain,” Luo Qianqian decided nonchalantly, spreading her hands, ”We need to balance work and rest, we can’t get that exhausted.”

”I also feel like we shouldn’t tell Mom, it’s as if we’re surrounded by dangers,” Luo Shufan agreed.

”A break would be nice,” He Wenyu nodded.

Tang Chen was speechless, why did he feel like all three of them were suffering from a sudden bout of school-phobia?

”That’s fine, we haven’t identified anyone specific, and for safety, it’s better if you stay home. Bai Yizhu as well, Bai Yixian said to call Baldy if there’s an issue. Just delivering the message,” Tang Chen whispered, tears welling inwardly, he had just learned about this in the morning. Don’t look at me like that, I’m one of the good guys, I don’t know anything, just passing along what I hear, that’s all.”

”Big Brother Bai... You sure know a lot of people around us...” Luo Shufan couldn’t help but remain on guard.

”I’ve also met Lin Jiayou...” Tang Chen said with a mournful face, feeling like a spy; on second thought, maybe he was one.
