I Have a Countryside Gourmet Restaurant

Chapter 243: Chapter 239: So There’s Phenomenal Wine Here, Too

’So that’s how it is,’ Chen Wen thought, feeling more emotional than ever before.

As for Yu Hong, he wasn’t even worth thinking about anymore.

Yu Hong’s Mapo Tofu was only slightly better than his own, but it couldn’t even begin to compare with the one Boss Li You had just made.

If Boss Li You were willing to compete, Yu Hong would be utterly defeated.

In fact, Boss Li You wouldn’t even have to lift a finger. He would only need to have Yu Hong try the Mapo Tofu here once, and Yu Hong would surely concede defeat voluntarily.

At this thought, Chen Wen’s heart swelled with delight.

He may have lost, but Chuansheng Province was full of hidden masters. There was no shortage of experts.

When it came to Mapo Tofu, when it came to Sichuan cuisine, the chefs of Chuansheng Province were ultimately superior.

He might have lost, but the honor of Chuansheng’s chefs had not. And that was enough.

Chen Wen’s mood brightened considerably, sweeping away the headache and gloom that had plagued him since his loss to Yu Hong.

It was as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders.

’This feels much better.’

At this moment, the tomato and egg soup was brought over.

’Time to try the tomato and egg soup.’

Tomato and egg soup was an incredibly common, ordinary home-style dish. Even an average home cook could make a decent version.

But a truly great chef could always take such a simple, ordinary soup and elevate it to a level far beyond the norm.

Take Chen Wen, for instance. His own tomato and egg soup was far superior to anything a typical home cook could produce.

Therefore, Chen Wen had great expectations for the soup Li You made.

He took a sip. It wasn’t surprising, yet he was once again struck with awe.

’It’s incredible! Even better than my own.’

’It seems Boss Li You’s unfathomable culinary skills aren’t just limited to Mapo Tofu.’

’Lao He said Boss Li You is very young, probably no older than twenty-five.’

’To have reached such a level of mastery at his age...’

’His talent is frightening!’

Chen Wen grew even more emotional.

Then a thought popped into his head: ’Should I try the Boiled Cabbage in Supreme Soup?’

Chen Wen had wanted to try the Boiled Cabbage in Supreme Soup from the start, but then he’d recalled the price—568 yuan a serving—was far too cheap.

’A price that low means it can’t be authentic. Ordering it would be a waste of money.’

But now, Chen Wen no longer thought this way.

’Boss Li You must have his reasons for selling it at 568 yuan a serving. But the quality of the Boiled Cabbage in Supreme Soup will definitely be excellent.’

’It’s worth a try.’

So, Chen Wen called Da Bai over and told him he’d like to order a serving of the Boiled Cabbage in Supreme Soup.

Da Bai had introduced himself earlier, so Chen Wen already knew his name.

Just then, a customer at another table called out to Xiaohai, ”Xiaohai, could you bring us two more bowls of wine, please?”

A customer ordering liquor was very normal. Chen Wen didn’t pay it any mind.

However, things quickly took a turn.

Xiaohai happened to walk past Chen Wen from behind, carrying the two bowls of liquor.

As he passed, Chen Wen caught an incredibly rich and fragrant aroma of liquor.

The aroma astonished Chen Wen.

As the head chef of a five-star hotel and a master chef himself, Chen Wen had seen and drunk his fair share of high-end, famous liquors.

He had even tasted exclusive, not-for-sale liquors. These were liquors that ordinary people could never hope to drink, and even those with considerable status would find it difficult to obtain.

You could say he’d drunk nearly every famous liquor out there. And for the few he hadn’t tasted, he had at least encountered them.

And yet, not one of them had an aroma that could hold a candle to the one he had just smelled.

That was why Chen Wen was so astounded.

He had noticed the large jars in the main hall earlier. Aside from their size, they looked like perfectly ordinary wine jars.

He never expected the liquor inside to have such a fragrance.

’With an aroma like this, the liquor must be absolutely incredible.’

Chen Wen couldn’t wait. ”Xiaohai,” he called out, ”please bring me a bowl of that liquor as well.”

He hadn’t planned on drinking. He still hadn’t decided if he should start the long drive home after dinner or stay the night in Wenxian Town and leave in the morning.

But now, he’d made up his mind. He would stay the night in Wenxian Town and leave tomorrow.

Because he had to have a drink.

To smell an aroma like that and not order a bowl to taste would be an insult to the liquor itself. He knew he would regret it every time he thought back on this moment if he passed it up.

A moment later, Xiaohai brought over a bowl of the liquor.

He set the bowl down and said, ”Please, enjoy.”

”Thank you!”

Chen Wen smelled the aroma again. There was no mistaking it. It was truly beyond compare with any of the famous liquors he’d had the good fortune to encounter before.

’What would a liquor with an aroma like this taste like?’

Chen Wen couldn’t wait to find out.

He picked up the bowl and took a small sip.

The moment the liquor touched his lips, he knew that even the finest liquors he had ever tasted couldn’t hold a candle to this.

A single sip of this liquor was enough to send a jolt of excitement through him. To be able to drink something this exquisite, no matter how remote the location or how difficult the journey, was absolutely worth the trip.

Chen Wen was thrilled all over again.

He never imagined that in addition to a nearly perfect Mapo Tofu, this place also had a world-class liquor, so stunning it could astound anyone with a single sip.

Being able to drink this liquor was one of the luckiest moments of his life.

Perhaps not everyone would feel this way, but Chen Wen certainly did.

He felt incredibly lucky.

Of course, he also had to thank He Xianfei for telling him about this restaurant’s existence.

Otherwise, he might never have known that someone could make a perfect Mapo Tofu, and he would never have tasted such a world-class liquor.

’But if this place has such an incredible liquor in addition to the Mapo Tofu, why didn’t Lao He mention it?’

’Could it be that Lao He doesn’t know about this amazing liquor?’

At this thought, Chen Wen grew excited all over again. He quickly pulled out his phone and sent a message to He Xianfei: ”Lao He, I’m at Boss Li You’s restaurant now. Let me ask you, did you drink the liquor here last time you came?”

He chose not to call, feeling that texting was more appropriate for this moment.

He Xianfei replied a moment later. ”I figured you’d be there by now. But, Old Chen, shouldn’t you be telling me about the Mapo Tofu? Why are you asking if I drank the liquor there?”

Seeing He Xianfei’s reply, Chen Wen thought, ’Looks like Lao He really doesn’t know about this incredible liquor.’

This made Chen Wen even happier. He immediately typed back, ”Lao He, since you’ve had the Mapo Tofu here, you should know that the moment I tasted it, the whole issue with Yu Hong was settled. I’m not feeling down or stressed about it anymore. So, we don’t even need to discuss the Mapo Tofu. Right now, we need to talk about Boss Li You’s liquor. It’s just as important.”

He Xianfei’s reply came back quickly. ”I suppose you have a point. But what’s the deal with the liquor at Boss Li You’s place? We didn’t drink any last time we were there.”

Chen Wen typed, ”Let me ask you, what’s the best liquor you’ve ever drunk?”

”The best liquor? Probably one of those exclusive liquors made for officials. You can’t buy it on the open market, no matter how much money you have. Come on, Old Chen, what are you getting at?”

”Nothing much. I just wanted to tell you that no matter how good that liquor you’re talking about is, it definitely can’t compare to the one at Boss Li You’s place.”

This time, it was He Xianfei’s turn to be surprised.

He Xianfei, who was already back home from work, was completely bewildered. ’What is Old Chen going on about? Is the liquor at Boss Li You’s place also a top-shelf masterpiece?’
