School Beauty's Personal Crazy Young Master

Chapter 222: Chapter 247: Barbecue Feast (Part 4)

Jiang Xiaomi was about to explode with frustration, glaring at Huo Xinya, ”Stop acting so profound, as if you’re the only person in the world who isn’t childish.”

”At least I didn’t get my fingers pinched.”

Huo Xinya responded with a light and breezy tone. It was this calm manner that infuriated Jiang Xiaomi even more, making her feel looked down upon by her opponent.

The quarrel over catching crabs between the two top beauties of the school drew the boys closer, one after another, squeezing in for a better view.

They found it unbelievable; Huo Xinya, normally so gentle and kind, was so adept at catching crabs. Moreover, she had shed her usual friendly demeanor and started arguing with Jiang Xiaomi.

For the classmates, both male and female, being together in the same class for so long, this was the first time they had seen Huo Xinya argue with anyone.

It must have been the violent sister who crossed her line. Otherwise, the class president wouldn’t have stooped to her level!

In the eyes of most of the boys in the class, Huo Xinya was like a goddess: gentle, kind, and dignified. She wasn’t someone who would start trouble.

Seeing all these boys apparently siding with Huo Xinya, Jiang Xiaomi grew even more depressed.

She had never expected Huo Xinya, her seemingly delicate rival, to be so formidable!

And just at that moment, Su Qingqing also ran over, and upon seeing the crabs in Huo Xinya’s basket, she couldn’t help but exclaim, ”Xinya, you’re so amazing, I really admire you.”

”It’s just catching a crab, what’s there to admire, hmph!” Jiang Xiaomi said, unconvinced.

”Xiaomi, you’re clearly just jealous and envious,” chuckled Su Qingqing, taking Huo Xinya’s hand, ”Would you teach me how to catch them?”

”Sure, if you pinch the sides of its shell like this, its pincers won’t be able to get you.”

Huo Xinya explained, demonstrating the technique.

Although Su Qingqing had a somewhat ambiguous relationship with Chen Nan, Huo Xinya did not see her as an adversary. After all, they had been good friends before. Besides, Su Qingqing hadn’t actively pursued Chen Nan.

Following Huo Xinya’s method, Su Qingqing cautiously extended her hand to pinch, and indeed she succeeded, immediately waving her hands excitedly and shouting.

Jiang Xiaomi heard everything clearly. Though she was not convinced, she still bit the bullet and tried Huo Xinya’s method.

After successfully capturing a crab, Jiang Xiaomi felt uplifted. She muttered to herself, ”Wait till I get more skilled. I’ll show you, bookworm—I bet I can outdo you, hmph!”

As for the rivalry between the two beauties, Chen Nan seemed to be completely unaffected, fishing with Lan Yuqin at a distance, utterly ignoring the commotion, occasionally scaring her with a crab, and having a very pleasant time.

It wasn’t that he was heartless, but rather that the situation between Huo Xinya and Jiang Xiaomi was beyond his control.

...

Around six o’clock in the evening, as the sun had set, everyone returned to the tented camp area, lit several bonfires, and began to barbecue the seafood they had just harvested.

The class had a total of forty-two people, divided into six groups, with seven people in each group.

Since the groups were freely formed, Chen Nan’s group happened to consist of four beauties from amongst the school’s beauties, and the Three Scoundrels—Chen Nan, Zhu Bajie, and Zhang Jiangyi. What? Did the author make a typo? Nope, it’s Three Scoundrels, not Three Musketeers!

What set Chen Nan’s group apart from the others was that, in addition to the seafood, they also had four egrets. Chen Nan had conveniently knocked them down with stones while he was out gathering firewood.

After cleaning all the food, Chen Nan glanced at Zhu Bajie, ”Where are the condiments I asked you guys to buy before?”

”They’re in the tent, I’ll go get them.”

Zhu Bajie chuckled and clambered up, running towards the tent.

After seasoning all the food, they stuck them onto sticks, one for each person, and began to grill them over the fire.

Gradually, the appetizing aroma wafted through the air, and students from other groups started glancing over, wondering what delicious food they had managed to cook that smelled so amazing.

Soon, the egret Chen Nan was grilling was ready.

”It smells so good, I want to eat a leg.”

Eyeing the grilled egret in Chen Nan’s hand, Su Qingqing reached out to grab a leg.

Chen Nan dodged to the side, avoiding Su Qingqing’s ravenous grab, and said with a wink, ”Why go for the bird’s leg? How about the bird’s butt instead?”

Su Qingqing pursed her lips and immediately put on a pitiful look, batting her eyelashes at Chen Nan and said in a soft and wheedling voice, ”Silly cousin, my dear cousin, can you bear to let me go hungry?”

Chen Nan was instantly disarmed by her cuteness and reluctantly tore off a leg and handed it to her, grumbling, ”No more acting cute in the future.”

Just as Su Qingqing took a bite, she raised her head, which was dripping with oil, and gave him a pitiful look, pouting with pretended grievance, ”I didn’t do anything...”

”I...”

Chen Nan opened his mouth, completely at a loss for words, thinking this little minx was truly a shape-shifting demon!

”Hehe, you’re the best, silly cousin.”

Su Qingqing dropped the cute act and smiled happily, having already forgotten the incident where she touched Chen Nan’s lower body earlier in the day, and took another bite of the leg, ”Mmm, this is really tasty!”

With four egrets in total and seven people in the group, after everyone got a grilled leg, there was still one left over.

Chen Nan had intended to give it to Lan Yuqin, but just then, Lan Yuqin happened to walk over, ”Your group’s grilling smells the best, what all do you have here?”

Chen Nan handed over the last roasted leg, ”Teacher, try this.”

”A chicken leg?”

Lan Yuqin took it and looked it over, not recognizing what it was, but after taking a bite, she felt it didn’t taste like chicken, ”What is this, exactly?”

”An egret.”

”You know this is a class two protected species, right? It’s illegal to eat it,” Lan Yuqin frowned.

Chen Nan chuckled and pointed at the leg in Lan Yuqin’s hand, ”Now that you’ve also eaten it, you’re an accomplice to us.”

”You all... In the future, you must not harm national protected animals,” Lan Yuqin said with a wry smile, shaking her head. Then she took another bite and remarked, ”However, this really does taste good. How did you catch them? And to get so many.”

”This guy hit them down with stones,” Huo Xinya pointed at Chen Nan.

”You can knock down egrets with stones?” Lan Yuqin was genuinely astounded, then looked at their other barbecued items like shrimp, fish, crabs, ”It seems like your group has the most lavish spread. I’ll freeload my dinner here if that’s alright. You’re not going to kick me out, are you?”

”Not at all!”

Chen Nan quickly made room for her to sit down.

Seeing Chen Nan’s eager behavior, Huo Xinya rolled her eyes and whispered beside him, ”You’re up to something, aren’t you?”

Chen Nan whispered back, ”I’m just showing respect to my elder, what ill intentions could I possibly have?”

”Like I don’t know about your little schemes?” Huo Xinya said irritably, ”You even thought about touching her leg earlier, and yet you have the nerve to speak of respecting your elders; I’m embarrassed for you.”
