Chapter 168: Chapter 190: Jiang Xiaomi is Hunted

Zhao Dongshan appeared somewhat troubled and looked at Chen Nan with a smile, ”Brother, as you know, in this line of business, there are rules. We promised our employer confidentiality, it’s really inconvenient to disclose anything.”

Chen Nan took a couple of swigs of liquor and patted Zhao Dongshan on the shoulder, ”Brother Dong, Su Yixuan is now my woman, and I absolutely cannot tolerate anyone threatening her. If you don’t want to speak, I won’t make it difficult for you; I’ll investigate it myself.”

”This...”

After hesitating for a while, Zhao Dongshan nodded and said, ”Alright, for your sake, brother, I’ll break the Jianghu code of ethics this once and tell you. The person who wants her dead is Xie Hushan.”

Zhao Dongshan was very clear that if he didn’t disclose this, the newly built relationship with Chen Nan would inevitably face barriers. In this case, if he ever needed Chen Nan’s help in the future, Chen Nan might not take it to heart.

Xie Hushan?

Chen Nan furrowed his brows, ”Who is Xie Hushan?”

”He is the CEO of Su Yixuan’s company,” Zhao Dongshan said. ”Su Yixuan is currently the chairman, and Xie Hushan probably wants to kill her to seize power. After all, once Su Yixuan is dead, her shares in the company would definitely be inherited by Su Qingqing, who is just a little girl ignorant of business. It would be easy for Xie Hushan to wrest the shares from her and ascend to the chairman’s position.”

”It’s really true that the most difficult to guard against are those inside one’s own house,” Chen Nan nodded and said, ”Thanks for this information. I must be going now; we’ll continue our drink another time.”

”Okay, feel free to visit and have a drink with me anytime,” Zhao Dongshan stood up to see him off.

Outside the private room, the four bodyguards and Zhao Ming all stood there waiting, and when they saw Zhao Dongshan and Chen Nan come out talking and laughing, they finally breathed a sigh of relief.

”Pass down my orders, let everyone come out, and gather in the lobby on the first floor, I have something to say.” After conveying this to Wen Changhe, Zhao Dongshan then headed downstairs with Chen Nan leading the way.

For a moment, only the sound of ”bang bang bang” footsteps could be heard, as the doors of all the private rooms on the second floor opened, the Zhao family’s higher-ranked members all rushed downstairs.

Those gathered here today for the meal were all core members of the Zhao family; ordinary members had not been given the opportunity to attend.

After reaching the lobby on the first floor, Zhao Dongshan scanned all the faces and declared loudly, ”From today onwards, Chen Nan is my brother Zhao Dongshan’s brother. Hereafter, anyone in the Zhao family, upon seeing him, shall regard him as they would Zhao Dongshan himself. Anybody who dares to disobey will be dealt with according to family law.”

”Understood, Boss!”

All responded in unison, their voices thunderous.

Initially, many had thought that today’s gathering was a feast with the intent to eliminate Chen Nan; however, they hadn’t expected that not only would Chen Nan leave alive, but he had also become Zhao Dongshan’s brother, ranked equally with the Zhao family members.

After exchanging a few pleasantries with the crowd, Chen Nan turned and walked outside.

Once he left the Celestial Mansion Restaurant, it was already 10:30 PM. The sky was filled with dark clouds that obscured the stars and the moon, with occasional thunder indicating impending rain.

”Damn, I hope this car doesn’t leak,” Chen Nan muttered as he climbed into his beat-up car. He turned on the light and scanned the ceiling for any obvious cracks, then hurriedly started the car and sped towards home.

Since it was late and due to the weather, there were very few vehicles on the road. Chen Nan was driving at full speed, hoping to reach home before it started raining, but just as he had traveled a mile or two, a torrential downpour began.

With limited visibility, Chen Nan had to slow down. Just then, a motorcycle raced past in the storm at an incredibly fast speed, easily over a hundred miles per hour.

”I can barely see the road myself, yet you dare to speed so recklessly, even more than I would risk my own life!”

Chen Nan exclaimed, curiously looking at the rider’s face. It was a woman on the motorcycle, and not just any woman but someone he knew.

Jiang Xiaomi!

What on earth was this mad woman doing running around in the middle of the night?

Chen Nan rolled down his car window and stuck his head out, just as Jiang Xiaomi sped past him. Her face was pale, her clothes stained with fresh blood, which looked even more pitiful washed by the rain.

”Girl, what’s wrong with you?” Chen Nan shouted.

Because of the loud rain, Jiang Xiaomi probably didn’t hear him. She didn’t slow down at all and sped past on her motorcycle.

Chen Nan wondered what was really going on with this girl when, suddenly, a blinding glare from headlights pierced the darkness. Three motorcycles and two sports cars roared by, speeding in the direction Jiang Xiaomi had just taken, moving as fast as she was.

Chen Nan furrowed his brows—he couldn’t believe this was a street race.

After all, no one races in a storm, visibility is limited—it’s like asking for death. Moreover, Jiang Xiaomi’s blood-stained clothes and pale face definitely didn’t suggest racing.

Could it be an assassination attempt?

Chen Nan quickly spun the steering wheel around, speeding off in the direction they had gone.

Although Jiang Xiaomi always opposed him in everything, it was all minor conflicts, nothing that amounted to real hatred. Now that she was in trouble, Chen Nan couldn’t just sit idly by.

He pushed his black old Jetta to its fastest, the car roaring like an old bull under the street lights, speeding by like a dark flash across the ground.

After chasing for a full five minutes, Chen Nan caught up to the group ahead. They were now less than fifty meters from Jiang Xiaomi, and one of the sports cars had already poised a handgun out its window, aiming straight at her.

The bad weather meant the drivers, even in sports cars, dared not drive too fast. Chen Nan, pressing hard on the accelerator, surged ahead of the targeted sports car, then swerved in front and slammed on the brakes. The car behind couldn’t react in time and crashed into Chen Nan’s rear end with a ”bang.”

Leveraging the fierce impact, Chen Nan floored the accelerator again, sending his car’s speed shooting up to its peak.

The sports car behind him had to stop due to the crash’s impact, its airbags deploying forcefully, forcing it to halt.

Seeing this, the other sports car and the three motorcycles quickly realized that the battered Jetta was there to disrupt their pursuit. They sped up recklessly, chasing ahead furiously.

At this moment, Chen Nan had already pulled up beside Jiang Xiaomi.

”Girl, give me your hand.”

Chen Nan reached his hand out the car window, calling out to Jiang Xiaomi.

Jiang Xiaomi, startled at first and thinking he might be an enemy, turned her head. Seeing it was Chen Nan, she hesitated, ”Why should I trust you? What if you’re in cahoots with them!”

”Are you out of your mind? If I were with them, I’d have just knocked you off your bike. Why bother with tricking you into my car?” Chen Nan said in irritation, ”There are several guns aimed at your head right now, if you don’t want to die, hurry up and give me your hand.”
