Chapter 158: Chapter 180: Little Sister, Listen to Your Brother!

”Jiang Xiaoniu, you wouldn’t be planning to welsh again, would you?”

Chen Nan’s mouth curved into a smirk as he teased Jiang Xiaomi.

Staring at Chen Nan, Jiang Xiaomi really wanted to welsh, but felt it would be too embarrassing. While she agonized over what to do, Su Qingqing suddenly piped up, ”Xiaomi, I heard you’ve already welshed once. What was the bet last time? Share with sister, will you?”

It was bras on heads!

Jiang Xiaomi rolled her eyes at Su Qingqing. She was already feeling frustrated, and Su Qingqing bringing up the past made her go nuts, ”Don’t bring up last time’s incident with me, hmph!”

”We won’t talk about last time, but what about this time?” Su Qingqing blinked her eyes, looking delighted by the disaster.

”You!”

Jiang Xiaomi was infuriated. She thought that agreeing to treat her to a month’s worth of soy sauce pork knuckles would have Su Qingqing speaking up for her, but this girl turned out to be a fair-weather friend, siding with one side for a while and then the other.

”Humph, no more soy sauce pork knuckles for a month!” declared Jiang Xiaomi.

”It’s gone, it’s gone. Anyway, welshing seems to be second nature to you,” Su Qingqing provoked.

”I... fine, I’ll treat you, okay?”

Jiang Xiaomi, feeling cornered, reluctantly agreed. She was maybe a bit violent and barbaric, but when it came to verbal sparring, she really couldn’t compete with Su Qingqing.

As the two of them bickered incessantly, Chen Nan said with some annoyance, ”Look here, Jiang Xiaoniu, we’ve strayed onto the subject of soy sauce pork knuckles, but what about the bet we placed? Are we considering it valid or not? If you want to welsh, just let me know. I’m a magnanimous person, I could actually overlook this.”

”You beast, you’re the petty one!” Jiang Xiaomi glared at Chen Nan fiercely, and snapped, ”So what if I lose? I can afford my losses.”

Chen Nan shrugged. ”Alright then, little girl, call me ’brother’ and let me hear it.”

Hearing Chen Nan’s tone, Jiang Xiaomi itched with rage, but there was nothing she could do. Reluctantly, she muttered, ”Nan... Brother Nan.”

Seeing her look of defeat, Chen Nan was in high spirits, though his face feigned dissatisfaction, ”That’s it, just one address? Shouldn’t you also add a ’little sister pays respect’?”

Jiang Xiaomi glared at Chen Nan, her eyes blazing with fury, and roared, ”Chen, don’t push your luck!”

Chen Nan acted nonchalant, ”If I recall correctly, you said that if you lost, you’d listen to whatever I say from now on. If you don’t, I’ll take it you’re welshing.”

Jiang Xiaomi clenched her fists, her teeth grinding audibly as she hesitated for a long while before grudgingly saying, ”Little sister... Little sister pays respect to Brother Nan.”

Chen Nan burst into laughter. ”That’s more like it. I thought you were going to welsh! From now on, you’d better listen to big brother and greet me properly whenever you see me, got it?”

Jiang Xiaomi glared at him resentfully and nodded begrudgingly. ”Got it.”

”Alright then, continue with your race,” Chen Nan said as he flicked his hand dismissively, ”One of you is my cousin, the other my little sister. I shall be the referee, totally fair and impartial.”

”Humph!”

Jiang Xiaomi snorted coldly and returned to her car.

Su Qingqing ran over, whispered in Chen Nan’s ear, ”When it starts, shout ’one’ then jump straight to ’three’. Otherwise, I’ll make you a sunny-side-up egg when I get home. It’s your call whether you’ll help me or not. Hehe, I’m not threatening you.”

Su Qingqing smiled joyfully, opened the car door, and sat down.

Chen Nan felt utterly helpless. Su Qingqing’s sunny-side-up eggs were something he sincerely dared not eat anymore. After weighing his options, Chen Nan made a great decision — erm, that is, to compromise...

Glancing at the two cars on the starting line, Chen Nan raised his hand and shouted, ”Ready, one, three!”

As Chen Nan’s hand fell, Su Qingqing instantly floored the accelerator, and her car shot out like an arrow.

Jiang Xiaomi was momentarily stunned before coming to her senses. She then slammed on the gas, chasing after Su Qingqing while cursing, ”Chen, you beast, dare to mess with me, I won’t let this go!”

”Little sister, watch your tone when you speak to big brother,” Chen Nan laughed.

”Brother my foot, drop dead!”

Jiang Xiaomi’s angry voice carried as her car disappeared around the bend.

Chen Nan sat down by the road, lit up a cigarette, grabbed the unfinished bag of sunflower seeds left by Su Qingqing, and leisurely began to eat.

Suddenly, a ringtone sounded; his phone was ringing. When he checked, it was an unfamiliar number.

”Who is it?”

Chen Nan’s tone was rather unpleasant, his eating disrupted by the call.

”Brother Nan, it’s Zhao Ming here, I hope I’m not disturbing you,” came the weak voice from the other end.

Chen Nan immediately brightened up, chuckling, ”Oh, it’s Brother Ming. What’s up, you need something?”

Listening to Chen Nan’s laughter, Zhao Ming felt a chill down his spine; that laugh was simply too mischievous, and he had no clue what Chen Nan might be up to, ”Nan... Brother Nan, actually, I wanted to ask if you’ve seen the invitation I sent last time? My uncle wants to invite you to dinner, and I was wondering if you were available?”

Chen Nan slapped his forehead. ”Oh, that thing, I truly forgot to look. Just tell me directly when it is, Brother Ming.”

Zhao Ming’s complexion darkened more than Bao Gong’s; this guy received his invitation but didn’t even bother to read it, and he was upfront about it, wasn’t this a slap in the face?

With an awkward laugh, Zhao Ming said, ”Brother Nan, it’s tonight at seven, at Heaven Mansion Restaurant.”

”Tonight, huh! Sure, I’ll come if I’m free.”

Hearing this, Zhao Ming nearly face-planted into the ground.

”I’ll come if I’m free,” what kind of answer was that? What if they’ve reserved the venue and prepared the meal and this guy doesn’t show? Wouldn’t he get an earful from his uncle then?

”Brother Nan, could you please make sure to come?” Zhao Ming’s voice carried a pleading tone.

”Are you ordering me now?”

”No, no, of course not.” Zhao Ming hastily responded, ”Brother Nan, I just really hope you can make it, I would never dare order you around!”

Chen Nan took a drag from his cigarette, laughing. ”Alright, I’ll definitely be there tonight, let’s leave it at that for now.” After saying this, Chen Nan hung up. Since they were offering a free meal, why wouldn’t he go? Anyone who didn’t take up such an offer would be a fool.
