Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 1987: Chapter 1544: Going to Save Daisy

The mixed-race girl, Daisy, had just been rescued from the group of men led by the dark-faced man, and yet she turned around and walked straight into another trap. It was simply baffling.

But Bai Xiaosheng seemed to know the reason. Just now, he had understood what the dark-faced man said to Daisy.

”Sheng, what did that person just say?!” Lin Weiwei asked anxiously.

Lei Ying also looked at Bai Xiaosheng, awaiting an explanation.

Bai Xiaosheng furrowed his brow, watching the departing taxi, and memorized the license plate number before responding to Lin Weiwei, ”I heard something to the effect that he told Daisy they had her brother, or at least knew his whereabouts!”

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying suddenly realized the situation.

So, that was the information!

The dark-faced man had said Daisy’s brother ran away, so they needed money from her. Now he claimed to know her brother’s whereabouts. Daisy must be worried about her brother’s safety and that’s why she went with them willingly.

”I blame myself. I saw her hesitating at the time but thought she wouldn’t be impulsive. We sent her away first, expecting she would inform her family, so I didn’t intervene!”

Bai Xiaosheng showed a trace of guilt on his face.

”It’s not your fault, Sheng. But what should we do now?” Lin Weiwei asked urgently.

The taxi had already disappeared from view, and without any transportation, catching up was impossible.

”I have a bad feeling, worrying that girl might be in danger. If they took her things, she can’t make a deal when she gets back!” Lei Ying murmured, furrowing his brows.

If they hadn’t witnessed the situation, it would have been one thing. But having seen it, getting involved, only to end up uneasy, it’s unsettling. It makes one restless.

Lei Ying looked to Bai Xiaosheng, waiting for him to decide.

”Since we’re involved, we can’t just leave it halfway!” Bai Xiaosheng said solemnly, ”Weiwei, you go back to the hotel first. Lei Ying and I will go and take a look!”

Bai Xiaosheng was determined to rescue her!

Lin Weiwei wanted to go too, but she knew tagging along would only burden them, so she nodded and said, ”Be careful, both of you!”

Bai Xiaosheng nodded.

Currently, they were on a wide main street. As long as they didn’t stray into the slums, it was safe.

The hotel was just two blocks away, clearly visible from a distance, which was partly why Bai Xiaosheng felt at ease letting Lin Weiwei go back alone.

Watching Lin Weiwei cross the road, Lei Ying asked Bai Xiaosheng, ”What should we do now, should I ask someone for help?”

Before entering the workforce with Bai Xiaosheng, Lei Ying did all sorts of jobs, from serving in the foreign legion to being a mercenary, even mingling in the underworld.

If they needed to track someone down, he had ways, though it might be a hassle.

”No need for that trouble,” Bai Xiaosheng replied directly.

Spotting a taxi approaching, Bai Xiaosheng waved it down.

Then, Bai Xiaosheng gestured to Lei Ying to get in.

The driver was a tan-skinned young man with a small mustache, bright-eyed and energetic, exuding a sharp air.

As Bai Xiaosheng got in and sat in the passenger seat, the driver grinned, revealing a set of white, neat teeth.

”Where to, my esteemed guests? At your service!” the young man said enthusiastically.

Bai Xiaosheng glanced at him and with a faint smile said, ”We’re looking for a taxi that has our friend in it.”

Ayuo seemed stunned at these words, blinking at Bai Xiaosheng.

He appeared to be waiting for Bai Xiaosheng to continue...

”Can you help me find it, Ayuo?” Bai Xiaosheng pulled out two large-denomination bills from his pocket and waved them in front of Ayuo.

Money wasn’t usually Bai Xiaosheng’s responsibility, but he had just asked Lin Weiwei for a wad.

Lei Ying then realized that Bai Xiaosheng intended to use money to smooth the way.

”Sir, this... might be difficult...” Ayuo said, though his eyes were glued to the cash.

”How about now, is it still difficult?” Bai Xiaosheng added two more bills.

Ayuo swallowed, glancing between the money and Bai Xiaosheng and then back to Lei Ying. ”I don’t know if the person in the car you’re looking for is actually a friend. What if you’re seeking revenge? I’d feel guilty for causing trouble for someone else!”

Quite the conscientious young man.

Bai Xiaosheng chuckled and added another four large bills, saying, ”For your peace of mind.”

”If you’re still unwilling, then forget it,” Bai Xiaosheng added.

Ayuo quickly snatched the money from Bai Xiaosheng’s hand and said seriously, ”Please fasten your seatbelts, we’re leaving immediately!”

Indeed, money can open doors anywhere... Lei Ying marveled.

Bai Xiaosheng relayed the license plate number he remembered to Ayuo, and Lei Ying, sitting in the back, was a bit surprised.

It was quite a feat for Sheng to remember it. When I noticed something was off, I tried to remember the license plate, but the distance and dim light made it impossible. Yet he managed it! Lei Ying was quite impressed with Bai Xiaosheng.

In actuality, if Bai Xiaosheng wanted, Red Lotus could easily help him remember, capturing every number instantaneously, regardless of distance or lighting.

...

The taxis here were also equipped with radios. Ayuo grabbed the microphone and made some contacts, then told Bai Xiaosheng, ”I know where it is, let’s go!”

Bai Xiaosheng nodded; he had already heard.

Even though Ayuo was using the local dialect, it couldn’t escape Bai Xiaosheng’s ears.

In fact, even if it were a completely new and unknown language, as long as enough samples were spoken, Red Lotus could analyze and translate it for Bai Xiaosheng. Not to mention, this was an existing language.

The taxi carrying Bai Xiaosheng and others sped through the streets, quickly leaving the city.

”We’re heading to Mr. Ruby’s estate,” Ayuo mentioned while driving, ”Your friend is quite something, going there by taxi. I thought you had other intentions. But if you’re heading to Ruby’s place, who dares to have ulterior motives!”

”Who is Mr. Ruby?” Bai Xiaosheng inquired.

Facing Bai Xiaosheng’s question, Ayuo seemed taken aback, exclaiming, ”You don’t know Mr. Ruby?”

”I’m just a tourist. Should I know Mr. Ruby?”

Seeing Bai Xiaosheng was serious, Ayuo scrutinized him a few more times, ”You’ve never heard of his name?”

Bai Xiaosheng nodded again.

Ayuo then explained, ”Mr. Ruby is one of the big plantation owners in New Orleans! Of course, he also runs other businesses. But besides legal businesses, he has gray income, lots of bodyguards, and keeps many hunting dogs...”

After speaking, Ayuo advised Bai Xiaosheng, ”You’re really going to find your friend, right? I must advise you, at Mr. Ruby’s place, don’t cause trouble, or it’ll be very dangerous!”

Lei Ying listened to this warning, finding it amusing.

If Ayuo knew they were going to Mr. Ruby’s place to ”find someone,” possibly even causing a conflict, would he be scared stiff or slam on the brakes and drive them back...?

Bai Xiaosheng smiled and nodded slightly, ”Thanks for the warning. Rest assured, we have no intention of causing a scene at Mr. Ruby’s place...”

Silently, Bai Xiaosheng added to himself —

As long as he doesn’t trouble us!
