This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Kidney yang deficiency? For such a small child? Did I make a mistake?

Du Heng’s expression darkened slightly. ”How is the child eating?”

The girl named Bian Min didn’t answer, but looked at Liao Yuzhu beside her.

Liao Yuzhu said cheerfully, ”Just answer my brother’s question. He’s a doctor famous Nationwide now and only has outpatient service once a week. It’s hard to get an appointment with him.”

Hearing Liao Yuzhu’s words, Bian Min finally turned her head and said to Du Heng, ”Quite well. A can of milk powder is gone in four or five days.”

Bian Min spoke quickly, but Du Heng noticed that as she spoke to him, her eyes flickered slightly.

Especially when she got to the end, although she naturally lowered her head, seemingly looking at the child, Du Heng felt that she didn’t dare to make eye contact with him.

The corner of Du Heng’s eye twitched. He then asked, ”How does the child sleep?”

Bian Min looked up. ”Pretty well. He can sleep through the night until morning.”

”What about during the day?”

”He also takes three or four naps during the day. He’s very well-behaved.”

When saying these things, she looked straight at Du Heng, a stark contrast to her response to the first question.

This further convinced Du Heng that the girl’s first answer hadn’t been honest.

”Does the child spit up milk?”

”Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn’t.”

After several questions and the initial pulse diagnosis, Du Heng quickly came to a conclusion.

A very, very unexpected conclusion.

Yang deficiency and turbid Yin overflow!

In terms of Western medicine, it should be equivalent to nephritis.

And judging by the child’s physical characteristics, it should be latent chronic nephritis.

Is it normal for a baby in swaddling clothes to have nephritis? Definitely not.

So are those examination reports I just looked at fake? They must be.

Either this girl and her family found a copy shop and put her and the child’s names on someone else’s examination report, or they colluded with the hospital staff who performed the tests and faked the results from the very beginning.

Of course, whether the reports were fake or not wasn’t important. What was important was why such a small child had nephritis.

The most common reason is acute streptococcal infection.

But nephritis caused by this viral infection often has obvious physical symptoms, such as edema, and this type of infection usually leads to acute nephritis.

Chronic nephritis like this is rare, almost unheard of, especially this latent type.

So, there were two other possibilities: secondary nephritis and hereditary causes.

Secondary nephritis usually has other underlying causes, such as allergic purpura nephritis or lupus nephritis, and it generally presents with more obvious symptoms.

So, secondary nephritis could likely be ruled out.

That meant the most probable cause was hereditary, a disease passed down from the parents.

Du Heng quickly sorted out the cause and effect, then fixed his gaze on Bian Min.

However, Liao Yuzhu’s purpose in coming today wasn’t for Du Heng to treat the two of them. It was only to check the child’s condition and see if he was suitable for adoption. So, diagnosing and tracing the root cause wasn’t appropriate for today.

Du Heng thought for a moment and said, ”How about this: your examination report is a bit old. Why don’t you have the child get a new check-up at our hospital?”

If the child was healthy, had no history of hereditary diseases, and if the girl genuinely intended to give him up, then Du Heng’s suggestion was perfectly reasonable, the most logical request.

But, just as Du Heng anticipated, the unexpected indeed happened.

Bian Min first glanced at Liao Yuzhu, then at the child, before directly refusing, ”It hasn’t been that long, only about three weeks. Besides, I had a full check-up done at the affiliated hospital of Civil University. The affiliated hospital of Civil University is a Class A hospital. Don’t you trust their examination reports? If I remember correctly, your Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital is still just a level 2 hospital, right? Also, this child is terrified of Acupuncture. He cried for a long time after having his blood drawn last time, and he doesn’t sleep soundly; he’s always being startled awake.”

Du Heng couldn’t help but take a closer look at the girl. She was very familiar with hospital accreditation levels. This definitely meant she had some connection to hospitals; otherwise, ordinary people wouldn’t care if the hospital they visited was Grade 3A or level 2. They would be more concerned about whether the hospital was expensive and had a good reputation.

Du Heng understood now, so he didn’t press the issue. He smiled faintly at Bian Min and said, ”Alright, if you don’t want to, we won’t do it. In that case, please wait outside for a moment. I need to have a few words with Yuzhu.”

Bian Min said nothing more and left the consultation room holding the child.

Du Heng had the new doctor beside him close the door, then asked Liao Yuzhu to sit down.

Liao Yuzhu said, quite satisfied, ”Brother, I wasn’t wrong, was I? Isn’t this child beautiful? My aunt and uncle will definitely like him. Minmin knew at the time that he was mixed-race, so she couldn’t bear to have an abortion. If it hadn’t been for her parents’ firm insistence, even threatening to sever their mother-daughter relationship, she would never have been willing to give the child away.”

Du Heng wasn’t concerned about these matters, so he appeared very composed and spoke in a slightly indifferent tone, ”You didn’t mention he was mixed-race last time.”

”I didn’t?” Liao Yuzhu paused, then said cheerfully, ”Maybe I forgot to mention it. But that’s not a big deal, is it?”

”It’s a very big deal.”

”Huh? What could be the problem?”

Du Heng shook his head with a hint of helplessness. ”Yuzhu, have you ever considered where your aunt and uncle live? It’s a village. True, we could use some connections to ensure the child’s adoption papers are no problem. But have you considered, in a village, especially a relatively backward one, how people will gossip if an elderly couple adopts a mixed-race child? And when this child grows up, how do you think he will feel?”

Liao Yuzhu was stunned. ”So, you mean you don’t agree to the adoption? It’s not that big of a deal, right? Gossip only lasts a few years. The main thing is that my aunt and uncle will have something to focus on, something to do. That would be good for them.”

”That’s not the only reason.” Du Heng shook his head gently. ”First, let me ask you something. Didn’t you say she couldn’t find the child’s father? Now that we know he’s mixed-race, should it be that hard to identify the father? And you also said this girl knew early on that he was mixed-race, which means she definitely knew about the pregnancy. So how could she not find the child’s father?”

This question made Liao Yuzhu a little embarrassed. She gave a slightly awkward laugh and reluctantly said, ”Oh, come on, I mentioned last time, didn’t I? She was a bit wild. However, at the time, the men she was involved with were either white or black, so that’s why she was sure he was mixed-race. But things were a bit messy back then; she herself didn’t know which one it was. Moreover, not long after that happened, the white student she was involved with graduated and returned to his country. So, when the child was born, she was certain, but the person was gone.”

Du Heng’s mood soured completely. He truly didn’t know what this girl was thinking. Could it be that she wanted to see if a mixed-race child would be beautiful, so she had to give birth to one herself? And her personal life... ’debauched’ was an understatement.

But this wasn’t his concern. He treated it as listening to some gossip and continued to ask Liao Yuzhu, ”Are you really sure her family has no history of hereditary diseases?”

”I’m absolutely sure there isn’t,” Liao Yuzhu replied confidently. ”And I’m also very sure Bian Min herself doesn’t have any diseases.”

Du Heng frowned. Recalling Bian Min’s appearance and condition, along with Liao Yuzhu’s comment about her being ’wild,’ a thought suddenly struck him. ”Let me ask a rather sensitive question. This friend of yours... has she ever used... that?”

”Used what?” Liao Yuzhu was puzzled, not understanding.

Seeing her confusion, Du Heng spelled it out.

”Oh, oh, oh... that. I’m not too sure. I’ve never seen it with my own eyes.” Liao Yuzhu looked bewildered, then, after thinking for a moment, said, ”But, I think it was the year before last, I seem to have heard something once. Back then, they asked me to go with them. After I flatly refused, they never asked me again, so I’m not really clear on the details.”
