This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”How are they both doing now?”

”They’re both doing quite well, especially Qi Xiaoqing, who’s almost like a normal person.”

”That’s good. Let’s go check on the child with congenital syphilis first.”

Du Heng and Gao Qin went to the hospital room. When they saw the child again, his symptoms had significantly lessened. For instance, the swelling and weakness present when the child first arrived yesterday had markedly improved. This was also the biggest difference when treating congenital syphilis compared to adults: the effects manifested quickly.

Gao Qin stood aside, giving Du Heng space to examine the child, while simultaneously updating him on the child’s condition. ”After taking the medicine, the child’s recovery has been quite obvious. Combined with penicillin, the child can now eat normally, and the pain and itching have also significantly diminished. At this rate of recovery, two more doses of medicine should completely clear the toxins from the child’s body.”

Du Heng agreed with Gao Qin’s opinion. However, when he saw the sores on the child’s body, his gaze wavered slightly. ”Director Gao,” he asked, ”why is there no sign of scabbing on these open sores on the child’s body?”

Gao Qin leaned forward to get a closer look at the child’s sores. ”It’s only the second day,” she said, her expression relaxed. ”The healing shouldn’t be very noticeable yet. Judging by Yu Zhiwei’s recovery, it should be better in another two days.”

Du Heng slowly straightened up. After a moment’s thought, he said, ”That’s not right. Considering the child’s current physical condition, he’s very close to being a normal child. This indicates that the toxins have been effectively removed from his body. Therefore, the sores caused by the toxin infiltrating the skin should show some signs of healing or improvement.”

As Du Heng spoke, he gently pointed to the child’s sores. ”Look at these open sores. Although there’s no more pus, the area around them is still the same as yesterday. That’s not normal.”

Hearing the seriousness in Du Heng’s voice, Gao Qin’s relaxed demeanor vanished. She moved closer to the child and began to carefully examine the sores. After a while, she said, ”It might be because the nurse just cleaned the sores this morning. That could be why they look this way. The child’s immune system isn’t strong, so it’s understandable that his recovery is a bit slower.”

Regarding Gao Qin’s explanation, Du Heng just nodded lightly. After a pause, he said, ”Keep an eye on this situation.”

Of course, Gao Qin agreed. Then, the two of them went directly to Yu Zhiwei and Qi Xiaoqing’s hospital room.

After examining both of them, Du Heng asked Gao Qin, ”Director Gao, I remember Qi Xiaoqing was discharged a couple of days ago, wasn’t she?”

Gao Qin’s mouth twitched. She glanced at Qi Xiaoqing and said, ”She didn’t want to be discharged. She wanted to stay a few more days, saying it would be safer.”

Du Heng frowned at Qi Xiaoqing, who looked like a normal person, then turned to Yu Zhiwei, whose face was covered in dark scars. ”If they’re fine, they should be discharged as soon as possible,” he stated. ”Also, even if they need to be hospitalized, men and women should be in separate rooms. Why are they in the same ward?”

At these words, Gao Qin became even more embarrassed. Just as she was about to explain, Du Heng turned and left. ”They’re both fine,” he said over his shoulder. ”Just conduct a full examination. Once the report is out, discharge them.”

With that, he left the hospital room without looking back.

And so, Du Heng shuttled back and forth between the Provincial First Hospital and the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital, looking after both children. It was exhausting, but the results were very satisfying. The child with leukemia slowly began to regain strength, and the child with congenital syphilis at his hospital also gradually recovered.

The only thing that puzzled Du Heng was that the sores on the child with congenital syphilis still hadn’t healed, leaving the tender flesh exposed. Furthermore, Gao Qin had tried many methods but couldn’t get the open sores to heal, which became very troublesome.

Gao Qin once suggested trying the Burn Ointment Du Heng had previously made, but Du Heng immediately rejected the idea. The main function of the Burn Ointment is to promote tissue growth and stop bleeding. However, it was clear the child’s sores weren’t healing due to lingering toxins, so it wasn’t the right treatment.

With a heavy heart, Du Heng returned to his office. He picked up his pen again, pondering the characteristics of Bayberry toxin and the features of the child’s sores.

Soon, Du Heng thought of a primary ingredient—snails.

There is a book called ”Collection of Medical Classics,” written by Wang Fu of the Qing Dynasty in 1758, which consists of ten volumes. Volume 1, ”Medical Origins,” elucidates Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, the functions of viscera, and pulse diagnosis. Volumes 2 and 3 analyze the properties of medicines. Volumes 4 to 10 feature selected prescriptions. The ”Properties of Medicines” section in the ”Collection of Medical Classics” records that snails can cure blood sores and bayberry sores.

With the primary ingredient identified, Du Heng quickly wrote down a prescription for eleven medicinal components centered around ’snails,’ including raw licorice, camphol, and cutch. However, this prescription was not for oral administration but for external application.

Looking at the prescription in his hand, Du Heng pondered for a moment more before calling Doctor Ma.

This prescription indeed achieved Du Heng’s desired outcome. In just two days, new flesh began to grow on the pediatric patient’s sores, which had previously refused to heal. The smaller sores even started to dry up and form scabs.
