This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

At this point, the weight in Du Heng’s heart finally lifted, and he could attend the wedding of Sir Zhuo’s son with ease.

But what he never expected was that the day before the wedding, his ’younger brother,’ whom he had never met, came to find him.

Zhuo Yue—169 cm tall, weighing 134 lbs, and twenty-six years old—when he appeared before Du Heng, Du Heng was slightly surprised.

In his imagination, although Zhuo Mingde was already getting on in years, the impression he gave was that of a handsome uncle. Du Heng had also met Zhuo Mingde’s wife, who was a very charismatic and elegant middle-aged woman.

Therefore, while Du Heng didn’t imagine their son and daughter to be stunningly handsome or beautiful, considering Zhuo Mingde’s status, he thought they should at least be stylish young people.

However, the appearance of this young man was indeed somewhat inconsistent with his expectations.

Moreover, this young fellow seemed... a bit shy, perhaps even a little timid, lacking the kind of confident air that Wu Shengnan’s brother, Dong Yuezhang, and others like them possessed.

Du Heng guessed that the young man’s height and build must have affected him, making him so... insecure.

But for men, as long as they weren’t too ugly, or hideously so, it wasn’t a major issue. Besides, Du Heng wasn’t one to judge by appearances, so after a brief internal pause, he warmly invited the young man into the house.

”You’re the groom, getting married tomorrow! What brings you here today?” Du Heng greeted Zhuo Yue enthusiastically, but inwardly, he couldn’t help but wonder if this kid had some undisclosed condition or had suddenly fallen ill, prompting him to visit the home of this ’brother’ he barely knew at such a time.

As expected, Zhuo Yue’s behavior matched his predictions. The young man kept his head down, hesitating for a long time without saying a word.

This made Du Heng even more certain of his guess. He immediately glanced at Wu Shengnan, who was resting with him that day.

Wu Shengnan, understanding his cue, said, ”You two chat,” and went straight into the bedroom.

Only then did Du Heng speak, ”Brother, although this is our first time meeting, your father is my respected elder martial uncle, which makes us like actual brothers.

Besides, your dad usually takes good care of me. Don’t be embarrassed, just tell me. If I can help, I definitely will.”

At this, Zhuo Yue finally looked up at Du Heng, but his voice was still pitifully soft, ”Heng, I need your help.”

”It’s alright, just say it.”

Zhuo Yue took a shallow breath. ”I want to ask you, Brother Heng, to accompany me to pick up the bride tomorrow morning.” After speaking, the young man lowered his head again.

Du Heng was somewhat bewildered by this request, not quite understanding what he meant.

”Brother, could you be a bit clearer? I’m not sure I follow.”

”...I want you to be my best man.”

”Best man?” Du Heng’s eyes widened. This request was completely unexpected.

Blinking in confusion, Du Heng slowly asked, ”Brother, didn’t you arrange for a best man beforehand?”

Zhuo Yue’s face flushed, and he said with his head still down, ”I did find one, but his mother suddenly fell ill, and he can’t make it.”

”Then you could find your other friends, right? And you only found... one?” Du Heng asked cautiously.

As soon as the question was out, Zhuo Yue’s head drooped even lower. He then said softly, ”I don’t have any other friends.”

Du Heng was rather stunned.

What did that mean?

He quickly understood why the young man had seemed so dejected since he walked in.

Because of his shyness and introversion, coupled with his physique, he didn’t dare make friends. Not having friends for a long time had turned his introversion into insecurity, and after becoming insecure, he grew even more hesitant to make friends, perhaps even afraid of it. Moreover, insecure people tend to be suspicious. Every time they see others talking in groups, they assume they’re the subject of discussion, which makes them even more reluctant to make friends.

It’s a vicious cycle.

Du Heng let out a soft sigh and couldn’t help but run a hand through his hair at his temples.

It’s so difficult to interact with people with such personalities; they’re too sensitive, too suspicious.

After a moment of abstraction, Du Heng carefully suggested, ”Nowadays, wedding companies offer services to rent best men and bridesmaids, don’t they? We could just rent a few from them.

That way, we can make your wedding lively, arrange all sorts of activities, and build up the atmosphere. What do you think?”

Afraid the young man would be too embarrassed to arrange it himself, he quickly added, ”Alright, I’ll find them for you; you don’t have to deal with it. You just focus on looking sharp tomorrow and welcoming your bride.”

Who would have thought the young man would immediately shake his head? ”I don’t like it too rowdy, and I wouldn’t know them well, I...”

Alright, even without him saying it explicitly, Du Heng knew he meant he would feel uncomfortable.

Du Heng paused for a moment, about to speak, when the young man whispered, ”My dad asked me to come to you.”

What did that mean?

That single sentence made Du Heng swallow the words he was about to say.

Du Heng gently scratched his head again. He really wanted to know what this was all about, but looking at the young man’s demeanor, he figured he wouldn’t get much information out of him, and felt a bit disheartened.

Looking at the young man now, Du Heng couldn’t help but wonder: If this young man is so afraid of social interaction, how did he even manage to start dating someone?

”Fine, I agree. I’ll go with you tomorrow and be your best man,” Du Heng said, deciding not to press further and agreeing directly. ”By the way, how many bridesmaids does your fiancée have?”

”I don’t know. I didn’t ask.”

Du Heng winced internally again. After struggling to hold back his exasperation several times, he couldn’t help but ask, ”How did you and your fiancée meet?”

”My workplace leader introduced us.”

”Didn’t you two date?”

”We... we did.”

Seeing the young man’s hesitant way of speaking, Du Heng felt quite uneasy. With him like this, he really couldn’t imagine how this young man had managed to court the girl.

”Where is she from?”

”Yon County. She’s from a single-parent family; her father raised her.”

Well, he said a bit more this time, and it was relatively coherent.

Du Heng sighed silently in his heart. He couldn’t understand why Zhuo Mingde would ask Zhuo Yue to find him. Could it really be because he trusted him that much? Du Heng didn’t believe such nonsense for a second.

”That’s quite close then, not far. From here, if there’s no traffic in the morning, it’ll take about two hours.”

”Yes, we’re scheduled to leave at 5 AM, arrive at her village at 7:30 AM, and enter her house at 8 AM.” As Zhuo Yue said this, he visibly cheered up a little.

He became more talkative, and his spirits seemed much better.

Du Heng blinked a couple of times, a thought suddenly flashing through his mind: There might still be hope for this young man. And the therapeutic catalyst might just be this sister-in-law he had yet to meet. Perhaps this was why Zhuo Mingde had sent Zhuo Yue to him? Zhuo Mingde probably knew he had successfully treated a few people with psychological issues, which might have given him this idea. But Du Heng felt that Zhuo Yue’s problem wasn’t psychological, but rather one of personality—a completely different matter. However, there’s no rush; he’d wait and see.

”Okay, after I find some guys tonight, we’ll gather at your place,” Du Heng said decisively, no longer beating around the bush. ”By the way, what’s the arrangement for the cars for picking up the bride?”

”My mother has already rented them from the wedding company.” This time, Zhuo Yue finally spoke without keeping his head down.

After seeing Zhuo Yue off, Du Heng sat on the sofa for a while, pondering Zhuo Mingde’s intentions, but ultimately, he came to no conclusion.

He decided not to dwell on it further. Given Zhuo Mingde’s status and their relationship, Du Heng trusted that he wouldn’t be set up or put in a difficult position.

After a moment’s thought, Du Heng called Wu Buwei, Li Shuxun, and a few of Li Jianwei’s graduate students, telling them to request leave and meet him that evening.

This could be considered a rehearsal of sorts; these were the guys Du Heng planned to have as his own groomsmen when he got married.

Young, handsome, unmarried—those were minor considerations. The main thing was, these guys could really hold their liquor.

Thinking about Wu Shengnan’s brother’s drinking capacity, and then about Wu Shengnan’s colleagues and best friends, he absolutely couldn’t pick anyone who couldn’t hold their liquor for his own wedding.
