This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng didn’t take Secretary Huang’s matter too seriously. Although the Supervision Department’s involvement always signified something serious, there was rarely any direct connection between them and his Hospital. More importantly, if anything were amiss at the Hospital, he would undoubtedly be one of the first to know. Only major incidents would land on the Supervision Department’s Office Desk. Had any major event occurred at the Hospital recently? He hadn’t heard anything; no Department had reported any incidents.

So, after Secretary Huang left, Du Heng resumed his busy work schedule.

However, his next visitor was quite a surprise.

”Yu Zhu, what brings you here?” Du Heng asked, looking at Liao Yuzhu with some surprise. ”Are you not feeling well, or is it the Child?”

But Liao Yuzhu, standing before him, wasn’t holding a baby. A Girl of similar age followed her, carrying a child in her arms. This Girl didn’t look like a nanny, and the child she held wasn’t his familiar little nephew. This was apparent from the child’s clothing and build.

Acting very casually, Liao Yuzhu pulled the Girl beside her and had her sit on the stool opposite Du Heng. ”Brother, do you remember what I told you a few days ago?”

”What was it?” Du Heng had genuinely forgotten.

Liao Yuzhu pouted. ”Brother, my dearest Heng, it’s about the Child I mentioned.”

At Liao Yuzhu’s reminder, it dawned on Du Heng. ”Oh, right, right, I remember now.” He then looked at the young Girl and the baby in her arms. ”Is this the Child?”

Liao Yuzhu nodded quickly. ”Yes, this is the Child. Brother, could you give the Child a check-up? If there are no problems, I’ll visit my uncle and aunt again this week.”

Du Heng seemed reluctant. He hesitated before saying, ”Didn’t I tell you? If there’s no problem, you can just take the Child directly. Why are you...”

”Well, it’s because Uncle and Aunt trust you. I can’t help it.” As she spoke, she helped adjust the Child’s position in the young Girl’s arms.

But when the Child was turned for Du Heng to see clearly, he froze.

The Child was strikingly beautiful, with large eyes and a prominent nose. However, the Child’s hair was light-colored, and their features were different from typical Chinese people.

Mixed-race? Asian and Caucasian?

Du Heng instinctively glanced at Liao Yuzhu.

He was clearly thinking: You can’t be serious, can you? Would the old couple really raise this Child?

More importantly, this Child doesn’t look very bright. Of course, that was just Du Heng’s first impression and not a definitive judgment. But this planted a seed of doubt in his mind, and he could no longer be as relaxed or casual as before.

”Didn’t you say you had the baby’s examination report? Where is it? Let me see,” Du Heng asked, his expression unchanged.

Liao Yuzhu agreed. Seeing that her friend was holding the baby and couldn’t easily get them, she took a thick stack of Materials from her friend’s Bag. Although he didn’t know what they contained, the sheer volume of the Materials indicated they took this Child very seriously.

However, this didn’t dispel Du Heng’s suspicions. He took the examination reports and began to study them carefully.

There were no problems; everything was normal, just as Liao Yuzhu had said. It was a very healthy baby, with no issues whatsoever.

As Du Heng continued to flip through the Materials, he came across her friend’s examination reports.

Bian Min, female, 20 years old.

Her examination reports also showed she was a very healthy woman.

However, these seemingly perfect examination reports didn’t dispel Du Heng’s suspicions; instead, they made him even more uneasy.

”Brother, no problems, right?” Liao Yuzhu asked with a smile.

Du Heng nodded lightly. ”From the reports, there indeed appear to be no problems.”

”That’s good then. In that case, I’ll...”

Seeing the delighted Liao Yuzhu about to continue, Du Heng didn’t give her the chance. He cut her off, looking directly at Bian Min opposite him, ”Bring the Child a bit closer. I want to do a check-up.”

This Girl, Bian Min, was very slender—a strikingly thin beauty with a pretty face and a somewhat wild air about her. A tattoo extended from her neck down towards her chest. Du Heng couldn’t see the whole design, but the visible colorful part—a mere tip of the iceberg—was quite eye-catching.

Yet, on closer inspection, something about the Girl felt off.

But that wasn’t important for now; examining the Child was the priority.

The first impression this Child gave was of beauty. Being mixed-race, it wasn’t surprising; the combination of attractive traits from two ethnicities was understandable. But when Du Heng met the Child’s gaze, he felt the Child’s reactions were a bit slow, and their expression seemed somewhat vacant.

Also, Du Heng noticed the Child’s skin was exceptionally pale—a bloodless kind of white—though he wasn’t sure if it was due to their mixed heritage or some other issue. Du Heng hadn’t seen many Caucasians and hadn’t closely observed their skin tones, so he couldn’t make a hasty judgment.

When he took the Child’s pulse, Du Heng’s heart jolted. The Child’s pulse was slow, thready, and weak; he had to press deeply to feel it, and it was even more so at the distal point of the radial pulse.
