This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The terror of these two things was worse than being without money at home.

Just as Du Heng finished explaining, he secretly glanced at the relative beside him and saw her eyes visibly tremble.

PHEW...

Du Heng gently exhaled, then grabbed the hand of Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law to take his pulse. He observed his external features closely afterwards.

At this moment, Du Heng’s phone rang.

”What’s wrong with Zhuo Yue?”

”Heng, have you guys taken everything? Can we leave now?”

”Oh, all done,” Du Heng quickly glanced at the time. It was already close to nine o’clock. He knew that if they lingered any longer, they wouldn’t arrive at the newlyweds’ house on time, so he hurriedly said, ”Hold on, we’ll be right there.”

Having put down the phone, Du Heng turned to the relative in front of him and said, ”Auntie, could you please take care of Uncle for a while? We’re going to deliver some things, then go get some medicine. We’ll be right back.”

The relative beside him quickly replied, ”Are you guys capable of handling it? Or should we just send him to the hospital?”

Upon hearing this, Wu Buwei promptly said, ”Auntie, the person beside me is the Dean of our Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital. For President Du, Uncle’s condition is simply a piece of cake; there’s absolutely no need for him to be hospitalized.”

The relative looked at Du Heng and Wu Buwei with a hint of scrutiny in her eyes and murmured in a low voice, ”Is it really going to be alright?”

Du Heng did not say much.

However, what Wu Buwei had said was not wrong—the issue with Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law wasn’t a major problem.

There was also one more important consideration: today was the joyous occasion of Zhuo Yue’s wedding. If his father-in-law were suddenly hospitalized, should the couple continue with the wedding and entertain their guests, or should the newlyweds run to the hospital in a panic, worrying and being left with regrets?

That’s why Du Heng didn’t choose to back down or take a self-preserving stance today. Instead, he decided to shoulder this issue himself.

After loading the gifts into the car that was following them, Du Heng once again confirmed the number of wedding guests to ensure no one was left behind. Then he promptly told the driver of the first car to set off.

Just as they were about to leave, the bride suddenly asked from inside the car, ”Um... brother, I didn’t see my dad come out. Is he not going?”

”Oh, he is,” Du Heng quickly replied. ”You go ahead first. Uncle won’t go to the new house with you. I’ll take him directly to the wedding venue.”

”Thank you, brother. My Dad has never traveled far. Please take good care of him.”

”Don’t worry. You guys go first; we’ll be there soon.”

Watching the first car set off, Du Heng called out Li Shuxun, who was accompanying the bridesmaids, and whispered a few words to him. He asked him to take charge of Du Heng’s duties upon reaching the new house and the hotel, especially taking good care of Zhuo Yue.

Although Zhuo Yue had displayed maturity and steadiness since being by the bride’s side, I wasn’t sure how long this state could last. What if he started to hesitate and withdraw, reverting to his usual aloof state once at the wedding venue? That would certainly be a joke.

As the fleet of cars set off, the area around the front door of the bride’s house started to quiet down. Eventually, all that was left were red paper scraps littering the ground and the faint, acrid smell of firecrackers.

Du Heng let out a deep sigh, went back to his car to get his needle tool kit, and took out a pen and paper. He wrote a prescription, saying, ”Buwei, go to the village clinic to get the medicines now. Make sure to decoct them there before bringing them over. I’ll perform acupuncture first to help stabilize him.”

Wu Buwei looked at the prescription and asked worriedly, ”Brother, we have to go to the hotel later. Will there be enough time?”

”It won’t be a problem,” Du Heng said indifferently. ”His problem arises from excessive thinking and worry, which has damaged his spleen. The spleen is the mother of the lungs. Once the spleen is injured, it can no longer distribute essence to the lungs, which then leads to lung qi damage. But once the lung qi is damaged, the body can no longer properly cleanse turbid qi, which further injures the spleen qi.”

Wu Buwei looked at the prescription again, seeing ingredients like root poria, pinelliap, dried orangepeel, morinda, and other medicines. He confusedly asked, ”Brother, you said the problem is with the spleen. So why did you prescribe medicines that mend the heart and stabilize the mind?”

Du Heng, who was just about to walk, paused, turned around, and flicked Wu Buwei’s forehead. ”Haven’t you been studying lately?”

”What do you mean? I’ve been reading constantly, especially the three papers you wrote. I can even recite them by heart.”

”Why bother reading that stuff? The time you spent on that could have been used to ask me directly; wouldn’t that be far more effective?” Du Heng’s attitude towards Wu Buwei’s actions contained both dissatisfaction and confusion.

The original author is right here, yet he doesn’t ask me and only reads the papers. That’s really something. I truly don’t know what he’s thinking.

”I saw you were busy,” Wu Buwei quietly defended himself.

Du Heng glanced at him indifferently and continued, ”We just discussed the relationship between the spleen and lungs; can’t you think it through yourself? Do you think epilepsy is a disease that is simply caused by spleen damage?”

With Du Heng’s prompt, Wu Buwei blinked twice and suddenly realized, ”Mental confusion! That’s caused by a disquieted spirit, a ’heart without its master.’ And the heart is the mother of the spleen. So, if the spleen is damaged, the mother must come to its rescue. But if the spleen qi is doubly damaged, the heart qi becomes chaotic, leading to this state of a ’heart without its master’ and a loss of will!”

Having said this, he eagerly turned to Du Heng, ”Brother, am I right?”

”Not bad, you’ve got the relationships right. Now, do you understand why this prescription is formulated this way?”

”I get it. Urgently clear the heart and tonify the spleen to stabilize the will, achieving the treating of heart and spleen together.”

Du Heng nodded and sighed, ”Ah, time is a bit tight. Otherwise, I could add some placenta hominis to the prescription, use its characteristic of supplementing the postnatal constitution, and restore peace to the heart in an instant. And with the support from placenta hominis, the heart-spirit gains foundation, then consciousness gains foundation. Not only can it restore the spirit, but it can also permanently consolidate it and prevent relapse. What a pity. From now on, remember, this Uncle must avoid any strong emotions until his spleen qi is conditioned.”

”So, he could have an attack at any time?” Wu Buwei stroked his chin. ”Isn’t this epilepsy?”

”You talk too much. Hurry up and get the medicine. If you can’t find the place, ask a few people. Take my car and be quick.”

Du Heng hastily sent Wu Buwei to fetch the medicine while he returned to the living room with his needle tool kit.

He had initially intended to perform acupuncture, but Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law was deteriorating, sobbing uncontrollably and trembling. This made Du Heng hesitant to proceed.

One of the most basic conditions for acupuncture is ’cooperation’. Whether conscious or unconscious, the patient must remain still; refraining from random movements is the minimum requirement. Otherwise, the fine needles could break and get lodged in the muscle if one is not careful. If such a thing were to happen, a trip to the hospital would be inevitable.

Since he couldn’t perform acupuncture, Du Heng grabbed Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law’s hand and gently massaged his PC-08 acupoint. PC-08 has a calming and mind-soothing effect. While massaging it might not be as effective as acupuncture, it can still help a person relax.

After massaging for a while, Du Heng moved his hand up slightly and began to press two acupoints on the wrist: Daling (P7) and HT-07. These two acupoints also have a mind-soothing effect. When used together, they are quite effective. If you can’t sleep at night or suffer from insomnia, you can switch hands and gently massage these points for about five minutes; it should help you relax.

After massaging for more than half an hour, Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law was no longer crying, and his body had stopped shivering. However, he was still overwhelmed with grief and sighed from time to time.

Around the forty-minute mark, just as Du Heng’s patience was wearing thin, Wu Buwei rushed in holding a teacup with a screw-on lid.

”Brother, the medicine is here.”

Du Heng took the medicine, tested the temperature, and found it to be slightly too hot. Holding it in his hand, he gently shook it. ”Why did it take so long?”
