This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wu Buwei took a shallow breath and, once his breathing evened out, said, ”You have no idea, Brother. That village doctor’s clinic has two rows of medicine cabinets on display, but there isn’t a single actual medicine in them. Let me tell you something terrifying: when I pulled open one of his medicine drawers, a mouse actually scurried out! It nearly scared me to death.”

The relative who had been accompanying them interjected, ”Why didn’t you say so? You went to that pharmacy in our village, didn’t you? We don’t go there anymore. It’s a complete joke! Now we’d rather walk a bit farther to the clinic in the neighboring village team, or go directly to the town. We just don’t go to their clinic at all.”

Du Heng gently swirled the teacup in his hand and asked curiously, ”Why not? Is their treatment ineffective?”

The relative pursed his lips, the corners of his eyes drooping slightly. ”For treating a cold or diarrhea, it’s just about passable. However, this child is much more ruthless than his father. He always prescribes the most expensive medicines. Moreover, he loves playing games. Once he starts playing, he forgets everything else. Last time, an old man from our village went for an IV drip. He put the old man on an IV and then went off to play games. The old man was quite elderly and fell asleep while waiting on the bed. By the time the old man woke up, his entire arm was swollen thicker than his thigh. It nearly frightened him to death.”

Wu Buwei chimed in, ”Was it an infiltrated IV, or an allergic reaction?”

”I don’t know. Anyway, the old man was sent to the hospital and stayed there for several days.” The relative twisted his lips, saying unhappily, ”Ever since then, no one from our village has gone to him for treatment. We’re all terrified. What if one day the medicine he prescribes kills someone? There’d be nowhere for us to even cry.”

Wu Buwei kept nodding, murmuring soft sounds of agreement, and started chatting with this relative.

Meanwhile, Du Heng didn’t join their conversation. Instead, he picked up the cup and started feeding medicine to Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law.

At this moment, Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law was completely dispirited, allowing others to do as they pleased with him; he was very compliant. No, it should be said, he simply ignored everything around him, as if to say, ’Do whatever you want.’

Therefore, Du Heng easily administered the medicine without resorting to any force.

About ten minutes after taking the medicine, Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law, who had been crying for nearly an hour, finally closed his eyes slowly. Du Heng and the others quickly helped him lie down properly on the sofa.

After waiting for a few minutes, when a soft snoring sound began, Du Heng found the opportunity to begin acupuncture.

Watching all the fine needles quivering on the man’s body, Du Heng slowly rose to his feet.

However, just as he stood up, Zhuo Yue’s phone started ringing. The person on the line, however, was Zhuo Yue’s bride.

”Umm... Brother... I heard from my sisters that you and My Dad haven’t arrived yet?”

Listening to the voice on the phone, Du Heng glanced uneasily at the sofa.

At this moment, he really didn’t know what to say.

Fortunately, the relative nearby gestured to Du Heng, then took the mobile phone from his hand. ”Qianqian, dear, don’t worry about your father. When you all left, the house was a mess, rubbish everywhere. Your father and I are tidying up; we’ll be there very soon. You all go to the bridal chamber first. Your father and I will go directly to the hotel to wait for you. After the banquet is over, your father and I will go to your new home then.”

”Fifth Aunt, I’m not worried. It’s just, I called My Dad, but he didn’t answer. Why is that?”

”Oh, he just stepped out to take out the rubbish and left his mobile phone on the table. Alright, there’s just a little bit more to do here. We’ll finish up quickly and come right over. We’ll hang up now, okay?”

With those few words, the relative ended the call. Then, looking at Du Heng, she asked, ”Err... after all this time, I still don’t know how I should address you.”

Du Heng smiled and replied, ”I’m Du Heng. You can consider me Zhuo Yue’s older brother.”

”Oh, good, good! So, when will Qianqian’s father wake up? Will he be able to make it to the wedding?” the relative asked with a worried expression. ”If he doesn’t make it, it’ll be easy for the in-laws to look down on us, and it will make the young couple, Qianqian and Zhuo Yue, worry.”

Du Heng turned his head to look again at Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law resting on the sofa. He really couldn’t say for sure.

The illness wasn’t a particularly complicated one, and Du Heng was confident that a single dose of medicine could help him recover and relieve his uneasiness of mind. However, he couldn’t be certain when exactly he would wake up. With that in mind, he had used a relatively light medication, thinking he should wake up soon.

”He should wake up very soon,” Du Heng said.

The relative said, ”Oh,” then asked, ”He’ll definitely be alright when he wakes up, right?”

”That won’t be a problem. He’ll certainly be back to normal when he wakes up, though he’ll be quite fatigued,” Du Heng said softly. ”But it’s alright. As long as he wakes up, we can let him rest a bit on the way to the hotel to regain some energy.”

Despite his words, another half an hour passed. It looked like they wouldn’t make it to the wedding on time, and Du Heng was just about to resort to some method to forcibly awaken him when Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law slowly opened his eyes.

Now that the man was awake, Du Heng immediately performed a simple check-up. After confirming there were no further problems, Du Heng set off directly with Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law.

As for the doubts in Zhuo Yue’s father-in-law’s mind, those could only be explained to him slowly on the way.

On the way, Du Heng drove at the maximum allowed speed most of the time. However, when they reached the downtown area, the traffic was terrible, making Du Heng inwardly furious. Fortunately, the hotel wasn’t located in the bustling city center. Against the odds, Du Heng managed to get them to the hotel on time, just twenty minutes before the wedding was scheduled to officially begin.
