This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng was very anxious.

Seeing the red at the tip of the scissors, his heart pounded with even greater fear.

But he dared not show any sign of fear or impatience; he could only slowly approach Qi Xiaoqing.

”Ms. Qi, listen to me, don’t act impulsively.” Du Heng slowly walked towards Qi Xiaoqing, his voice softened to the utmost.

He had never spoken with such gentleness even to Wu Shengnan; he hadn’t even known he could be so ’warm’.

The moment he grasped Qi Xiaoqing’s hand, he felt his legs weaken. As he slowly took the scissors from her, the surrounding lights seemed to grow much brighter.

Gao Qin, behind him, was finding it unbearable. When she saw Du Heng secure the scissors, she couldn’t help but let out a trembling ”AH!”

Du Heng felt much the same, but being a man and at the forefront, he managed better control. However, it wasn’t until he spoke again that he realized his own breath was shaky.

”Ms. Qi, don’t be agitated. Calm your emotions and rest for a while.

As long as the sky isn’t falling, we can discuss and resolve anything. Please, don’t act impulsively.”

Even now, after taking the scissors, Du Heng didn’t dare speak loudly.

At this moment, it wasn’t just Qi Xiaoqing who couldn’t be agitated. The bespectacled man, who had been hiding behind them and watching everything coldly, also couldn’t be provoked.

Especially seeing the back of his hand stained red, Du Heng feared the bespectacled man might act impulsively and splatter blood everywhere.

Although Qi Xiaoqing still glared at the bespectacled man, the fact that she could stand still indicated a turning point.

What was needed now was to offer a way out, a chance to save face for someone who had regained their composure; that was the most appropriate course of action.

And Du Heng was the one to provide it. He first said to Qi Xiaoqing, ”Go lie down on the sick bed and rest for a while. I’ll have a nurse check on you.

Being overly emotional isn’t good for you.”

Saying this, he gave a subtle signal to the nurse nearby, who had been trying to mediate.

The moment Du Heng made eye contact, the nurse immediately began speaking softly into Qi Xiaoqing’s ear. Qi Xiaoqing, though still glaring fiercely, allowed herself to be guided, albeit reluctantly, towards the sick bed.

Du Heng breathed a sigh of relief, turned, and said to the bespectacled man behind him, ”I see your hand is injured. Go get it treated immediately.”

Then he turned to Gao Qin and said, ”Director Gao, please handle this personally.”

Gao Qin quickly nodded, showing no timidity or fear despite the man being a special patient. Her thoughts now mirrored Du Heng’s: separate these two immediately.

The bespectacled man, though gloomy, was compliant. As soon as Director Gao called him, he followed her out.

Only then did Du Heng truly relax. He beckoned the nurse who had relayed the earlier message. ”Stay with Ms. Qi for a while.”

”Yes, Dean.”

Du Heng then said to the other two nurses and the intern, ”You three, come with me.”

Du Heng left first after speaking. The three he had called exchanged glances, a myriad of thoughts racing through their minds.

What raced through their minds now was the possibility that Du Heng was looking to assign blame. After all, a pair of small scissors had ended up in a patient’s hands and caused an injury; this could be a minor issue or a major one.

Upon entering the doctor’s office, Du Heng gestured for them to close the door. This gesture made their hearts sink further.

It felt very much like they were about to be reprimanded behind closed doors.

However, as soon as the door closed, Du Heng asked anxiously, ”Were any of you three scratched or cut?”

All three shook their heads, looking cautiously at Du Heng.

But Du Heng, seeing them shake their heads, still wasn’t reassured. He insisted on checking each of them from head to toe before he was finally satisfied.

He then looked at them and said slowly, ”Do you know? The bespectacled man who was cut just now... he’s been diagnosed with HIV.”

AAAHH! Instantly, a chill ran down the spines of all three.

Especially the two female nurses, whose rosy complexions instantly turned deathly pale.

Du Heng looked at each of their faces in turn and finally asked softly, ”Are you scared?”

The three of them nodded vigorously.

But Du Heng’s expression suddenly hardened, and he glared, demanding sharply, ”Then please tell me, how did those scissors end up in Qi Xiaoqing’s hands?

Speak up!”

One of the nurses, clearly younger, visibly flinched when Du Heng uttered his last two words.

After glancing at the nurse beside her, the young nurse stammered, ”It was my carelessness... I accidentally left it on the medicine cart when I pushed it in.”

”Then tell me, you were pushing the cart to administer medication and change dressings, what did you need scissors for?”

”I... a patient in the next room needed their gauze changed, so I brought them...”

Du Heng, visibly trying to contain his frustration, stared at the young nurse and said, ”If I recall correctly, when you need to change dressings or administer medication, aren’t you supposed to prepare everything in advance at the nurse station?”

”...Yes. At that time...”

Du Heng raised his hand, cutting her off. ”Spare me the excuses. Go explain yourself to your head nurse and Director Gao.”
