This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Dean Luo was a shrewd man. The moment Zhang Yongjun adopted that stance, Dean Luo understood its meaning, so he didn’t press Zhang Yongjun further. He simply glanced at him before turning to ask the others.

However, the other TCM doctors shared Zhang Yongjun’s sentiment, especially after witnessing Secretary Bai’s treatment. Now, looking at Lu Zhongjiang’s condition, they too were unable to offer a clear explanation.

Observing their reactions, Secretary Luo’s interest in this Dean Du Heng deepened. Their behavior was enough to show that Dean Du Heng’s skills were significantly superior to those of his own staff; otherwise, they wouldn’t be struggling to even describe the patient’s symptoms.

As for the Western Medicine Doctors, it was better not to ask them at all.

Dean Luo decided to pause the discussion and led everyone back into the hospital room. He encouraged them to chat with the patient and also to communicate with the Health Clinic’s doctors, hoping to glean some useful information.

Their intentions were good, but they overlooked one point: Yu Haiting was also a Western medicine practitioner. In Yu Haiting’s eyes, Du Heng’s prescription was a sacred formula, flawless. All Yu Haiting believed he needed to do was prescribe the medicine to the patient according to it. He didn’t understand anything beyond that, nor did he have the time to try.

Qiu Pingzhen was in the same situation. In fact, he was even less knowledgeable than Yu Haiting; he was purely an administrator. He hadn’t even heard of some of the medical terms being used.

As conversation filled the ward, Qiu Pingzhen slowly slipped out; his phone was ringing in his pocket.

”Xiao Kang… Okay, I understand. There’s no issue at the moment. If anything comes up, I will contact the Dean.”

Hearing Kang Zhirong say that Du Heng and Secretary Huang were on their way, Qiu Pingzhen felt relieved.

However, he had barely lowered his phone when it rang sharply again. He glanced at the screen: it was a colleague from the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Along with the call, several message notifications popped up. Though he didn’t see the full content, the word ”congratulations” appeared multiple times.

Congratulations? Congratulations for what?

With no time to ponder, he answered the ringing phone. ”Ah… Congratulations… Are you serious?… I haven’t received any notification… You’d better not be kidding me… Alright, I’ll definitely treat you.”

As Qiu Pingzhen spoke, his expression shifted rapidly—from confusion to shock, then to elation. By the last few words, he was almost drooling.

It turned out Du Heng’s question that morning hadn’t been casual after all; he had genuinely secured a position for Qiu Pingzhen at the Health Clinic.

But before he could fully process his joy, his phone rang yet again. This time, it was Lu Guangying.

”Director Qiu, you’ve heard the news, haven’t you?”

Qiu Pingzhen, struggling to contain his elation, replied, ”I just got word, but I’m not sure if it’s true yet.”

Lu Guangying laughed heartily on the other end. ”Of course, it’s true! How could something like this be false? But ah, you really need to thank President Du properly. Today, it was President Du who advocated strongly for you, almost getting into an argument with everyone, to secure this position for you.”

Qiu Pingzhen quickly agreed and profusely thanked Lu Guangying. Whether Lu Guangying had actually spoken up for him or not, expressing gratitude was essential.

Lu Guangying continued, still chuckling, ”Don’t just pay lip service; you need to show your gratitude through actions. Do you know what other benefits come with being the Dean of the Health Clinic?”

Qiu Pingzhen hastily said he didn’t know and asked Lu Guangying for insight.

Lu Guangying didn’t beat around the bush. ”President Du proposed that the Dean of the Health Clinic also serve as a Vice Dean of our hospital. Although this role wouldn’t involve specific day-to-day responsibilities at our hospital, you would have the right to participate in discussions and vote in meetings. As for why… you should think about that carefully yourself. Don’t disappoint President Du’s expectations.”

Qiu Pingzhen’s hand, holding the phone, trembled slightly. He truly hadn’t expected this.

Lu Guangying, likely sensing Qiu Pingzhen’s state on the other end, didn’t wait for a reply. ”Alright, put the Health Clinic matters aside for now and hurry back to our hospital. We have some procedures to go through, and you need to expedite the handover at the Medical Affairs Office.”

Qiu Pingzhen excitedly hung up the phone. At this moment, he found himself unsure of what to do.

His original idea had been to leave the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital and become the head of his own institution, no longer having to cater to others’ whims. As for the possibility of being promoted within the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital, he had dismissed it. He was already in his forties, approaching fifty, and had no connections. But Du Heng had unexpectedly given him this surprise.

After a considerable while, he gradually regained his composure.

He picked up his phone, intending to call Du Heng, but then remembered Du Heng was likely driving with Secretary Huang beside him, so he dismissed the thought. Instead, he dialed his wife.

Qiu Pingzhen calmly recounted his promotion, and his wife listened calmly on the other end. Yet, in this tranquil conversation, the couple talked for a full half an hour, only hanging up when Qiu Pingzhen saw Du Heng’s car pull into the courtyard.

Putting down his phone, Qiu Pingzhen straightened his clothes, adjusted his hair, took a deep breath to gather his spirits, and then walked towards Du Heng.
