This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng smiled slightly. ”Alright, you go ahead and get busy, and keep an eye on Secretary Lu’s situation.”

After Yu Haiting left, Du Heng sat in his office for a while before getting up and heading to the conference room in the new building.

At this time, in the new building’s conference room, finance and medical staff from both the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital and the Zhonghu Health Center were busy with a one-to-one handover. People could be seen everywhere, flipping through documents and talking non-stop.

Qiu Pingzhen was the team leader today, and he didn’t participate in the process. He just sat in the front, idly flipping through the materials.

Seeing Du Heng come in, he quickly stood up to offer his seat to Du Heng, but Du Heng shook his head and asked softly, ”Is the handover going smoothly?”

”Very smoothly. The Zhonghu Health Center’s accounts are clear, and its personnel and material files are in order. There are no problems at all. According to our preliminary estimate, we should be able to complete the first step of the handover by this afternoon. As for what’s left, it’s a matter of our hospital carefully verifying the details.”

Du Heng nodded slightly, exchanged a nod with Wang Zhenzhen who was not far away, and then asked Qiu Pingzhen softly, ”What do you think of the Zhonghu Health Center?”

”The place is large and the staff is adequate. Other than having no money, everything else is pretty good.” After considering for a moment, Qiu Pingzhen shared his honest impression.

However, this answer made Du Heng feel a slight twinge of annoyance. ”So, if you were the Dean of the Zhonghu Health Center, what would be the first thing you’d do?”

At this question, Qiu Pingzhen’s eyes widened. A thought he had never entertained before flashed through his mind. Could it be... could it be...

Then he quickly regained his composure and, suppressing a tremor in his voice, said, ”If I were the Dean of the Zhonghu Health Center, my first order of business would be to go to the district bureau and ask for money.”

Du Heng’s eyes brightened for a moment. ”Oh, go ask for money? You should know that the district bureau no longer manages the Zhonghu Health Center. Whether the Zhonghu Health Center thrives or fails is now the responsibility of our Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital. So, didn’t you mention the wrong target? You actually want to ask our hospital for money, right?”

Qiu Pingzhen shook his head, firmly saying, ”I didn’t get it wrong; I do mean to ask the district bureau for money.”

”Tell me why, and what kind of money do you want?”

”Yesterday, during the initial handover, we discovered that when you were the Dean of the Zhonghu Health Center, the district bureau promised to provide a support fund. However, once you left, that fund was suspended. We even specifically checked the financial records yesterday and found that since April, this money has not been transferred into the Zhonghu Health Center’s account.”

Qiu Pingzhen paused for a moment before continuing, ”If that money could be secured, we could purchase suitable equipment and speed up the process of accepting patients from our hospital’s ’stroke research group.’ At the same time, we could improve the compensation for the medical staff and boost everyone’s enthusiasm. In this way, the Zhonghu Health Center could resume the strategy you established and prepare to achieve Level Two status. Moreover, now that we are affiliated with our hospital, I believe that the upgrade will be even easier with our support.”

Du Heng gave a faint smile, neither acknowledging nor dismissing Qiu Pingzhen’s answer. He simply went on to ask, ”Do you think you can get this money? Remember, the district bureau has already completely cut ties with the Zhonghu Health Center. Now, they only have supervisory rights and no further administrative relationship.”

Qiu Pingzhen exuded confidence. ”I’m sure I can get it back. This support fund is a previous allocation. According to the Zhonghu Health Center’s files, the fund belonged to the Health Center from the date of its allocation. The district bureau only adopted a phased allocation approach as a means of supervision and to ensure progress. So, there’s no dispute about the ownership of this fund. It belongs to the Zhonghu Health Center, and the district bureau’s finance department is only responsible for its custody and supervision.”

Du Heng didn’t say anything more. He walked around the conference room, observed everyone’s work for a moment, and then left. ”Alright, you keep an eye on things here. If anything comes up, just contact the hospital.”

Qiu Pingzhen was a bit dumbfounded, watching Du Heng leave as a feeling of disappointment enveloped him. He still had so much more to say, but Du Heng had left without commenting on his proposal. He could only wonder whether his words had been appropriate. Did Du Heng genuinely consider making him the Dean of the Zhonghu Health Center, or was it just a casual question asked on a whim?

But he couldn’t ask any of these questions; all he could do was watch Du Heng walk away.

Since the Zhonghu Health Center was almost empty by now, Du Heng had nowhere else to go. He took another stroll around Lu Zhongjiang’s hospital room before driving to the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital.

Upon arriving at the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Du Heng handed his mobile phone and other belongings to Kang Zhirong. ”Has everyone arrived?”

”Everyone except Director Qiu is here.”

Du Heng took a deep breath. ”Alright, I’m going in for the meeting. If the Zhonghu Health Center calls about Secretary Lu, you must come in and notify me immediately.”

”I understand.”

With that, Du Heng walked into the conference room of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital with his head held high.

No one knew how lively the conference room of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital was, but the conference room of the Provincial Oncology Hospital was buzzing at the moment.

Zhang Yongjun held his teacup, a smug expression on his face as he looked at his colleagues. ”I’m sure you’ve all heard about Secretary Bai’s situation; some of you were even involved. Everyone must be well aware of how things stand.”
