This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”This time, with Secretary Bai’s issue, if it weren’t for Secretary Bai explicitly stating he wanted our house’s treatment, he would have kicked us out of the Treatment Group.”

Hearing Zhang Yongjun’s words, Du Heng felt extremely annoyed. So, after all that, you want me to go after him and save face for you? With your current level, shouldn’t he have kicked you out? But then again, it’s always the same: when others give him face, it’s hard for him to be assertive, especially with seniors. It’s even harder. How he wished at this moment that these elders, like Professor Wang, wouldn’t give him face, would question him, and look down on him. Then he could curse them out without restraint and vent his anger. Ugh, this is frustrating! Who would have thought Professor Wang would run away so decisively? If I’d known, I should have settled the score yesterday.

While Du Heng was feeling depressed, Wu Shengnan’s father waved at him. Du Heng sighed, then slowly put on a smile and walked over.

”Xiao Heng, Mr. Bai said he feels much better today. Give him another check-up so Mr. Bai can also feel at ease about the treatment.”

Wu Shengnan’s father was all smiles, looking at Du Heng with immense pride. If the situation allowed, he would have loved to throw his head back and laugh boisterously, baring his prominent teeth.

Du Heng certainly wouldn’t refuse his father-in-law’s request. Besides, he was already here, so the check-up was expected. But what kind of result could he find? Of course, nothing significant! The medicine prescribed yesterday consisted of common ingredients like licorice and gardenia, nothing highly toxic or overly nourishing. What major difference could there be?

Sure enough, after the examination, the result was still the same. His left rib area was still purplish, his tongue coating was still greenish, and his pulse condition was unchanged from yesterday. Apart from the greenish tongue coating having faded slightly and the pulse being a little stronger, there were no significant changes.

But could he say that? Of course not!

So, after Du Heng finished the examination, he smiled and said, ”Mr. Bai, I won’t detail the examination results. I believe your own feeling of improvement is the most direct indicator.”

”Haha, that’s right. You’re a good kid. I’m glad I chose you yesterday.”

”You flatter me, Mr. Bai. This isn’t just due to the medicine; your positive mentality is also a crucial factor,” Du Heng said, putting on a knowing air. ”For treating this kind of illness, first, one must have a good mindset. A cheerful mood can put the entire body in an invigorated state, allowing your qi and blood to flow better. Second is your trust in me. Only if you trust me and believe the medicine you’re taking is effective can it achieve its greatest effect. And third, it’s the medicine I prescribed.”

”You’re such a smooth talker, kid.”

Du Heng smiled humbly. ”But Mr. Bai, there’s one thing I need to tell you in advance.”

”It’s alright, speak freely.”

”As the old saying goes, ’Illness comes like a collapsing mountain but goes like reeling silk.’ The medicine I prescribed can alleviate your discomfort—issues like pain, bloating, and poor appetite—within four to five days. However, to cure the root of illness, you’ll need patience. After all, the fire toxin has accumulated in the liver and formed an ulcer, damaging the organ. Repairing this damage isn’t something that can be done quickly. There’s another saying, ’Haste makes waste.’ Otherwise, even if it seems cured now, it will likely recur later. Only by slowly repairing the damage and removing the root of illness can we completely eliminate the possibility of recurrence.”

”Alright, no problem. Your word is gospel now; I’ll definitely listen to you.” Although Mr. Bai’s facial expression was still hard to discern, the enthusiasm in his voice as he spoke was significantly greater than yesterday.

It was worth noting that yesterday, while Mr. Bai’s attitude had been polite, he had barely exchanged a few words with Du Heng. From start to finish, Mr. Bai had only mentioned him in the context of being Wu Shengnan’s father’s son-in-law.

So, compared to today, the difference was stark.

But Du Heng didn’t care. Although Mr. Bai’s approach was very astute, Du Heng was no longer an ignorant Xiao Bai who understood nothing; he could understand the implications. But so what? Could it make him the top leader in the Jinzhou medical industry? Or could it make his word carry decisive weight in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Circle? Neither was possible. He would still have to treat patients the way he always did, and if he was fated to be scolded by them, he still would be.

Wu Shengnan’s father, however, had his wish fulfilled. After chatting for a while longer, he left with Du Heng.

Once they were outside, the smile on Wu Shengnan’s father’s face didn’t fade; in fact, it grew wider.

With double happiness at his door, it was perfectly normal for him to bask in his triumph for a moment, Du Heng thought.

Then, the look his father-in-law gave him became even more... gentle. Yes, that was the word, was Du Heng’s first thought upon seeing the expression in his father-in-law’s eyes.

Du Heng found this gaze a bit unbearable. As soon as they were out the main gate, he made a hasty retreat and went to find Liao Quansheng.

Liao Quansheng glanced at Du Heng’s expression and teased, ”Why the long face? Tell me, which blind fool dared to offend our great Dean Du? Let me witness the ’grandeur’ of this ’talent’ myself.”

Du Heng shot Liao Quansheng a disdainful look. ”If I told you who, I bet you wouldn’t dare go see them.”

”Tsk, is there anyone in Jinzhou that I, Liao, wouldn’t dare to see?”
