This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Despite Wu Shengnan’s rather ambiguous comment, it seemed no one else paid it any mind, apart from Du Heng, who might have been overthinking things. Du Heng could only purse his lips resentfully and then looked at the family, speechless.

However, he could understand their excitement. In a family like this, if they didn’t care about their descendants, then the country might genuinely have a problem, he mused.

Seeing Wu Shengnan grinning broadly beside him, Du Heng worried she might say something else to spoil everyone’s high spirits. He walked directly over to Sir and asked cheerfully, ”Sir, you’re about to be a great-grandfather. Happy, aren’t you?”

The Old Man was also grinning from ear to ear, showing his back molars. Hearing Du Heng’s words, he nodded vigorously.

Du Heng also chuckled. ”So, about that house we mentioned before, are you still going to give it to me?”

The smile on the Old Man’s face didn’t change. He said warmly, ”Of course, I’ll definitely give it to you two.”

”You’re not saving it for your great-grandson?”

”That’s ages away! Besides, that neighborhood is so run-down. Who knows if it’ll even still be there when my great-grandson grows up?” Although Sir was very happy, his previous decision wasn’t easily changed.

Du Heng’s lips twitched. ”In that case, I’ll make the decision. That house is for my soon-to-be-born nephew.”

Without waiting for Sir to say anything more, Du Heng chuckled, got up, went over to Wu Shengnan, whispered a few words to her, and the two of them left first.

On the way back, Du Heng told Wu Shengnan about the house Sir had mentioned and also shared his own decision. As Du Heng had expected, Wu Shengnan had the same idea.

”We’re not short of money now, and your patent fees provide a continuous income. We shouldn’t take that small advantage.” Although Wu Shengnan said this with a smile, her tone was quite serious. ”You’ve met my Sister-in-law. She’s a good person, but perhaps not the most broad-minded. There’s really no need to make things awkward for everyone over something like that.”

Du Heng chuckled. ”Are we on the same wavelength?”

”Definitely,” Wu Shengnan said, also breaking into laughter.

Du Heng chuckled softly, then deftly changed the subject. While driving, he asked, ”How’s Leader Zhang recovering? Is he back at work yet?”

”He rested for half a month after being discharged from the hospital and returned to work last week. He seems to be doing pretty well. However, Leader Tao is worried Leader Zhang hasn’t fully recovered, so he’s temporarily assigned him to office duties and forbidden him from fieldwork. They’ll reassess after some time.”

”So, does all his fieldwork fall on you now?”

Wu Shengnan shook her head. ”Not really. There are plenty of older colleagues in the team with more experience than me. It wouldn’t be my turn for fieldwork anyway. Right now, I’m mostly assisting Leader Zhang.”

”I see. But no matter what, you need to take care of yourself. Look at you, you’ve gotten so tanned this past month.” Du Heng looked at Wu Shengnan with a hint of heartache. ”And don’t forget, in another month and a half, we’re getting married. If you’re still so terribly tanned by then, I wonder how you’ll look on stage.”

With a troubled expression, Wu Shengnan pulled down the passenger-side sun visor mirror and looked at her tanned complexion. For a moment, unease crept onto her face as well.

Seeing Wu Shengnan was also feeling down, Du Heng decided not to say anything more that would upset her and instead chatted about lighter topics.

「Early the next morning」, Du Heng dropped Wu Shengnan off at her job and then hurried to his own.

When he arrived at his office, he saw Director Zheng at the door, looking worried.

Du Heng assumed Director Zheng was there to discuss yesterday’s issue concerning the Dean of the Health Clinic. To his surprise, Director Zheng didn’t mention it at all. Instead, he began to discuss the details for the Health Clinic’s plaque-hanging ceremony scheduled for the next day.

They finished discussing the specifics, such as who from their hospital would attend and the detailed procedures. Afterward, Director Zheng’s sagging jowls twitched slightly. However, he didn’t say much more, merely stating, ”Dean, I’ll take this and coordinate with the Health Clinic.” Then, without giving Du Heng time to react, he left the office.

Watching Director Zheng’s expression, Du Heng felt a sense of discomfort throughout his body. This only strengthened his conviction: Director Zheng truly wasn’t cut out to be the Dean of the Health Clinic.

However, the thought was fleeting. Du Heng quickly refocused all his energy on the tedious paperwork.

But his workload wasn’t too heavy that day. By a little after eleven o’clock, Du Heng had already finished the work at hand. Remembering Dong Yuezhang’s instructions from yesterday, he promptly called Liao Quansheng.

After arranging a time, Du Heng decided to go for a stroll. He’d been glued to his chair since the workday began. Now, his butt ached, and his back was killing him.

He was just about to leave the office when the phone on his desk rang. He had no choice but to turn back and answer it. However, upon seeing the caller ID, Du Heng hesitated for a moment.

”Good morning, Uncle.”

”Xiao Heng, are you finished with your work for now?”

”Just finished. Is something wrong, Uncle?”

”I just asked about Mr. Bai’s condition, but I’m still a little worried. If you have time, come with me to see him again.”
