This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Moreover, Professor Wang certainly wasn’t the only one agitated by this special medicine; the Jinzhou experts standing behind him must also have been feeling immense pressure.

That was because the use of this medicine had received their approval.

It’s one thing to deceive ordinary people who lack understanding, money, or power; but to deceive Mr. Bai by claiming he doesn’t understand, that’s being a bit too brazen.

Du Heng turned his head and continued to speak to the patient and his family, ”The treatment method isn’t difficult. It primarily focuses on liver calming, supplemented by medicine to purge fire and remove toxins. Mr. Bai’s main discomforts right now are pain and abdominal distension. So, the house I’ve prescribed aims first to alleviate the pain with the initial dose. The second dose will further reduce pain and also significantly improve the abdominal distension. By the fourth or fifth dose, the pain and abdominal distension should disappear, and the jaundice will be cured as well.

”At the same time, Mr. Bai’s current poor appetite will also significantly improve.

”By then, once his nutrition is adequate, he can continue taking the medicine to purge fire, detoxify, and nourish the liver blood. In about a month, there should be no further problems.”

At this point, further debate or questioning was unnecessary; it was now up to the patient to make his choice.

The patient in bed, however, seemed unconcerned by their earlier debate and said softly, ”Wu, your son-in-law is truly something. His words have made my blood boil with excitement; I feel like I could stand up right now. So, you must supervise your son-in-law well. My life is in his hands now.”

Wu Shengnan’s father was at a loss for words. He sighed softly and said, ”This rascal is speaking recklessly. Please, for my sake, don’t take it to heart. As for treating you, rest assured, I’ll make absolutely sure he gives it his all.”

”I still trust you, Wu. Let’s proceed then.”

After the patient finished speaking, he slowly closed his eyes, and everyone else quietly exited the bedroom.

Outside, the TCM doctor who had spoken earlier approached Du Heng. ”Doctor Du, hello. I am Zhang Yongjun from the First Department of Abdominal Surgery at the Provincial Oncology Hospital. Regarding this house you’ve written, will you be getting the medicine, or should we?”

Du Heng quickly responded politely, ”Director Zhang, hello. Thank you for speaking up for me just now.”

Zhang Yongjun smiled and shook his head. ”It was nothing. Let’s not dwell on that. Let’s discuss the matter of the house and procuring the medicine.”

Du Heng seemed to have already considered this and said directly, ”Then I’ll have to trouble Director Zhang. I’ll write down the house, and you can help me review it.”

This was a polite remark, but it left Zhang Yongjun with a bitter feeling. Recalling Du Heng’s bold claims from earlier, even though he was Du Heng’s senior, he dared not entertain the slightest thought of offering guidance on the house. That’s because, deep down, he wouldn’t dare to make such claims himself.

Du Heng, unconcerned, took out a pen and paper from his bag and began writing: white peony, angelica, fried gardenia...

When Zhang Yongjun took the prescription into his hands, despite having resolved to say nothing, he couldn’t help but blurt out, ”Is it really this simple?”

Du Heng smiled faintly. ”Using angelica and white peony directly targets the liver to nourish liver blood, which will then regenerate quickly, easily resolving the dryness of the liver blood. Then, using licorice to moderate its effects, gardenia to clear fire, and honeysuckle to detoxify, the problem will be completely solved. So, simplicity is fine here, and it doesn’t add any burden to the liver.”

After Du Heng finished, Zhang Yongjun softly exhaled. It really is damn simple, he thought. Each of the five herbs performs its specific function, doing exactly what’s needed. One less would be insufficient; one more would be superfluous.

No wonder this young man was able to stand out in the Jinzhou medical circle within a year, he mused. Just his skill in preparing a house like this had already surpassed ninety percent of doctors, let alone his diagnosis—he couldn’t find any flaws in it, which was even more impressive.

Since he had already spoken, Zhang Yongjun set aside formalities and asked again, ”Then what was the problem with the house we prescribed earlier? I’m not afraid of you laughing, but the previous house we prepared was also based on that house you used for those few tumor cases. So why has it turned out like this? Was our initial syndrome differentiation incorrect, or was our house just not formulated well?”

Du Heng took a slow, shallow breath and, after a moment of deliberation, said slowly, ”There are many schools of thought in traditional Chinese medicine. This means that while our diagnostic results may be largely similar, our approaches to medication can vary greatly.

”But as long as the fundamental principles remain unchanged, there’s no definitive right or wrong.

”As for your medication...”

Du Heng hesitated slightly here, then decided to skip a part and continued directly, ”The medication dosage was too light. Some potent herbs, intended for fighting poison with poison, were removed. Additionally, that special medicine has properties that suppress liver cells. Consequently, the medicinal properties in the house you prescribed were minimally absorbed. Therefore, the patient’s sudden deterioration has little to do with your medicine.”

Zhang Yongjun suddenly felt rather awkward. Although Du Heng’s words were tactful, partly alluding to the special medicine, the underlying message was clear: the house they had prescribed had been ineffective, practically no better than plain water.

Zhang Yongjun managed an awkward smile. Then, prescription in hand, he stepped aside to make some calls, asking his colleagues at his workplace to start sending the medicine.

Meanwhile, Wu Shengnan’s father, with his hands behind his back, walked over to Du Heng and asked in a low voice, ”Xiao Heng, are you truly confident about what you said?”
