This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Professor Wang and his associates were perplexed. The name sounded familiar, but they couldn’t recall where they had heard it. However, the eyes of the three silent people opposite them suddenly lit up.

Du Heng wasn’t well-known in Western medicine circles, perhaps even considered a nobody. But in traditional Chinese medicine circles, he was now undoubtedly a prominent figure.

After glancing at Du Heng, the three of them smacked their thighs in annoyance. Damn it, how could we have forgotten about him?

However, it wasn’t entirely their fault. Firstly, he was so young that it was easy to overlook him. Secondly, he was involved in too many diverse areas, especially the recent stroke research. This made it even easier for people to forget his few successes in tumor treatment.

But Professor Wang, who had posed the question, didn’t know any of this. Furthermore, he wasn’t concerned about how this young man had become the dean of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital; he was more interested in something else. So, after a brief moment of distraction, he continued, ”I wonder, what achievements has this... Doctor Du made in the field of tumor treatment?”

Wu Shengnan’s father couldn’t answer this question, so he motioned for Du Heng to speak. But before Du Heng could open his mouth, one of the three who had been silent, a relatively younger doctor, stood up and said, ”President Du is a rising star in Jinzhou Chinese Medicine. His skill level, it can be said, is even above ours.”

”Professor Wang, don’t be so impatient. You may think we are exaggerating, but once I finish, you’ll know if I’m overstating things.”

The speaker raised his chin slightly, looked at Du Heng, and then at Professor Wang. ”In May, the celebrity Feng Su received treatment for cervical cancer, which caused quite a stir. I’m sure Professor Wang remembers this?”

Professor Wang’s eyes also lit up. ”I remember now! I do have an impression of that incident.” Saying this, his brow furrowed again. ”However, Doctor Du is the dean of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital, and he cured cervical cancer. He must specialize in Gynecology and Pediatrics, then. But Secretary Bai has liver cancer; isn’t that quite different from Gynecology and Pediatrics? Besides, with only this one case, isn’t that a bit lacking in persuasiveness?”

The young doctor who spoke earlier shook his head. ”Professor Wang, don’t jump to conclusions. Let me finish.”

”Alright, go ahead, we’re all listening.”

”Doctor Du is now the person in charge of a national-level project – the stroke research that recently made headlines. Moreover, from what I understand, he will soon be in charge of a second provincial-level project focusing on pediatric cerebral hypoplasia research. Doctor Du, am I correct?”

Du Heng smiled subtly and nodded lightly.

This doctor’s youth was only relative to the other two; in fact, he was a bit older than Li Jianwei. Seeing Du Heng’s smiling response, he also smiled lightly.

But the frown on Professor Wang’s face didn’t ease as he asked softly, ”What does this prove?”

The doctor who had been speaking also frowned. This Professor Wang seems to be deliberately finding fault.

However, Du Heng softly interjected, ”Previously, at Provincial First Hospital, I treated one case of gastric lesser curvature cancer. At Zhonghu Health Center, I treated one case of severe ovarian cancer and one case of malignant lymphoma. At the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital, there is currently one patient with uterine fibroids undergoing treatment. Oh, and at the end of last year, I treated two cases of gastric cancer at the Good Friend Hospital in the Capital. To date, apart from the uterine fibroids patient still undergoing treatment, follow-ups with all other patients have shown no recurrence of their conditions, and they are all now living normal lives.”

Professor Wang looked coldly at Du Heng and the doctor who had spoken, his tone icy, seemingly unwilling to show any deference to Wu Shengnan’s father. ”You’ve said so much, but does it have anything to do with treating liver cancer?”

The doctor who had spoken before couldn’t hold back. ”Doctor Du has said so much to convey that he is a physician of adult medicine.”

”Adult medicine? What’s all this ’adult medicine,’ ’pediatric medicine’ talk?”

”Heh. Adult medicine, in modern terms, is adult internal medicine. Liver, gallbladder, spleen, stomach, kidney—he can treat conditions related to all of them.” The doctor shot a cool glance at Professor Wang. ”Professor Wang, if you don’t understand, perhaps it’s best not to ask further.”

Professor Wang, unaccustomed to such disdain, widened his eyes in anger and was about to retort.

However, at this point, the patient, who was the person directly concerned, coughed lightly and said, ”Alright, everyone. I’m sorry for making you all upset over my matter.” He then turned to Du Heng. ”Doctor Du, I’d like you to take a look at me.”

Hearing this, Du Heng also cast an indifferent glance at Professor Wang, then turned to the patient and said, ”Mr. Bai, I observe that your qi and blood are currently unsettled. An examination right now might not be very accurate. How about you return to your bedroom to rest for a short while? I can conduct the check-up after you’ve recovered a bit.”

”Phew... Now that you mention it... I didn’t feel it before, but as soon as you said that, I suddenly feel as if all my strength has drained away, and my stomach is terribly bloated.”

As soon as the patient finished speaking, his family members grew concerned, hastily assisting him towards the bedroom.

Upon hearing the patient’s discomfort, Professor Wang and the others, looking worried, immediately followed him to the bedroom. After the patient lay down, they began various examinations in a flurry.

Du Heng and Wu Shengnan’s father didn’t try to get closer; instead, they stood at the periphery, quietly watching.
