I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

In the following days, Gauss wandered around the vicinity of Gray Rock Town, testing the effects of the newly mastered ”Biological Positioning Skill.”

Gauss withdrew his gaze from the goblin lying at his feet.

A white snowy owl descended from the sky, landing on Gauss’s shoulder.

This snowy owl had a round head and a cute appearance, perfectly compensating for the cat’s inability to fly.

It turned its head toward Gauss, revealing a hearty smile, a mischievously delightful grin.

”Any discoveries?”

”I found a small bag of coins.”

”Not bad.”

This adorable snowy owl was precisely Aaliyah transformed into an animal.

While Gauss and Ying dealt with the enemies, she transformed into a bird and took a spin around the monster’s lair.

Although coins could not be exchanged for necessary supplies like humans when held by monsters, many monsters naturally also liked shiny, exquisite items, so they were often collected.

Reportedly, in some large monster tribes, metals like gold, silver, and copper could also circulate as currency.

They even smelted their own coins.

”Biological Positioning Skill · Kobold”

Gauss switched to a different target, once again activating this 4th Ring spell.

Soon, magic power spread from around him, swiftly covering a large area.

No tree, stone, or frozen ground could block or interfere with the detection of this spell.

Or rather, it wasn’t ordinary monsters that could master barriers capable of blocking or interfering with the detection of 4th Ring spells.

After scanning around and finding no traces of kobolds, Gauss lifted the magic.

Compared to the more adaptable goblins, kobolds prefer warm environments, so they find relatively suitable wintering places early before winter arrives.

”Total monsters killed: 16998”

Unknowingly, after the battle ended, Gauss had accumulated nearly two thousand monster kills.

Of course, it was thanks to a combination of factors that he could do so quickly.

First was during the two days of rescuing Black Water City refugees, killing a large number of monster pursuers, and after the defense battle of Gray Rock Town ended, a significant portion of the monster’s retreating army fled to the outskirts of Jade Forest. Gauss mastered the ”Biological Positioning Skill,” entering the forest outskirts, catching them as easily as catching chickens.

These unlucky monsters had finally gathered to recuperate, but were soon tracked down by Gauss, this persistent monster hunter.

”4th Ring spell Biological Positioning Skill lv3(6/50)”

With continual frequent use, the proficiency level of the Biological Positioning Skill also increased rapidly.

That’s how skills are; frequent use naturally leads to greater proficiency. Moreover, the talent ”Demonic Hour” occasionally drops some skill experience, randomly enhancing various skills, with the probability highest for newly mastered, relatively low-level skills.

Additionally, his powerful magic talent enabled Gauss to master and become proficient in a spell at an exceptionally fast pace after grasping it.

However, the speed of skill progression is fast in the first three levels, but once entering lv4, it decreases significantly.

Even for a talent as strong as his, the highest skill proficiency level currently reached is lv5, and that’s only with the few skills used the most, which are:

Gauss Force Field lv5 (145/200)

Magic Missile lv5 (77/200)

Flaming Arrow lv5 (5/200)

Gauss Force Field, of course, doesn’t need elaboration; it’s his core skill with a considerably high frequency of use. To be precise, it’s rarely dispelled from Gauss.

Even in sleep, he’s enveloped in a layer of force field protection.

Thus, from beginning to end, the proficiency level of this spell has always been leading in his skill list.

Moreover, even when he enters special states, such as the energy Dragon Scale of the hardened scale bloodline, Tier Two Ghost Transformation’s Ghost Energy protection, Gauss Force Field has already fused with them.

Or perhaps, the development of these protective forms is likely influenced by this core skill.

As for Magic Missile, it needs no elaboration—two words: practical.

Encountering a few to a dozen goblins on the roadside, it’s unlikely he’d use a 3rd Ring Fireball Technique or a 4th Ring Ice Storm.

Though he truly doesn’t lack magic power, it’s needless to use a sledgehammer to kill a chicken, especially when wasting magic is one thing, harming nearby flora, and innocent small animals is not nice.

Aaliyah would feel very uncomfortable seeing it.

Thus, when encountering scattered monsters, Magic Missile and Flaming Arrow tend to be the best choices.

Used frequently, the speed of experience accumulation naturally increases.

lv1 is entry-level, lv2 is proficient, lv3 is mastery, lv4 is expert, lv5 is, in Gauss’s perception, already a state of utmost proficiency.

At least with these three lv5 proficiency skills he has now, he can nearly perform wonders with them.

Almost instant casting, reduced energy consumption, enhanced spell effects.

Magic Missile and Flaming Arrow can also be massively fired in succession, completely departing from the fundamental effects of the spell.

Therefore, in his understanding, lv5 level already means internalizing the skill into a spell uniquely his own.

It should be a stage that very few professionals can reach.

Thus, he is now very curious about what exactly an lv6 skill could achieve and whether divine mastery might emerge or what additional effects might appear?

Currently, the closest to lv6 is the Gauss Force Field, but unfortunately, as proficiency rises, even for ongoing-release skills like Gauss Force Field, the growth speed is gradually slowing.
