I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Even though every soldier in the army seemed as insignificant as an ant to him, when this group of ”ants” gathered, they could form a formidable and immense force.

Fortunately.

He silently felt relieved in his heart.

Thankfully, when he first discovered the valley army in the forest, he did not impulsively launch an attack.

Now, the army here was just a part of the one in the valley, and it already exuded such an overwhelming sense of oppression. If he had acted impulsively then, it would have ended badly for him.

He looked at the many soldiers and various ballistae, rolling logs, and boulders stationed beside him. The pressure brought by the Monster Legion suddenly lightened, as if dispersed by the momentum of the human army.

This collective momentum formed like grains of sand piling up into a tower was not a privilege exclusive to the monsters; humans could also form a united force to confront it.

Moreover, being on the defensive side, the city walls they occupied, along with the equipment and various defensive facilities, seemed to invisibly bolster their momentum.

Mysteriously, two opposing forces spread out like two giant beasts confronting each other across a void.

Thus creating a scene where the sky changed dramatically.

Everyone present knew the war was about to begin.

Time quietly slipped by.

The night gradually deepened.

Bonfires and torches were lit on the city walls.

One by one, soldiers took their positions in front of the battlements.

High-end forces like Gauss were assigned to different sections of the city walls.

Sir Belock was stationed at the central section, tasked not only with direct confrontation with the enemy but also commanding the surrounding troops.

Gauss stood on top of the watchtower, his gaze firmly locked on the few giant beasts flying in the sky.

Those were several Two-legged Flying Dragons.

The air grew increasingly stagnant.

”Creak, creak, creak—”

Gauss suddenly noticed that trebuchets in the monster legion had started to move.

Along with their movement, the beast-dragged carts and infantry formations below also began to advance.

”Boom!”

”Boom!”

”Wooo—!!!!”

Almost simultaneously, both sides blew their war horns.

The oppressive silence that had been maintained was shattered with a roar.

The monster formations were gradually approaching.

Gauss stood high atop the watchtower, making no move.

Now was not the right time for him to act.

Whether it was Sir Belock, Abelhard’s guidance, or his own subconscious intuition, all told him so.

If he were to fly off the city wall now, approach the monster legion, and use Fireball Technique to destroy the trebuchets,

even if he could achieve some success, he himself would likely come to a bad end.

Because the monster legion was currently at its peak momentum, by leaving the city wall, he would be provoking them alone, instantly drawing focused fire from their momentum, with no support from the defensive forces behind him.

He had to wait for the battle to officially commence.

Once the fighting began, both sides’ momentum would become chaotic, and that would be the perfect time for him to make a move.

Waiting...

He patiently rubbed the stone bricks beneath him.

The first to launch an attack were the fixed trebuchets on the city wall.

”Boom—!!!”

A deafening roar like rolling thunder tore through the stagnant night sky.

The long casting arms set up behind the city wall swung violently in the thunderous roar, hurling millstone-sized rocks into the darkness.

The stones traced blurry parabolas through the air, with a deathly whistle, crashing heavily into the dark wriggling sea.

”Bang!!”

The boulders smashed into the ground like meteors.

The monsters below were instantly crushed into pulp, and carrying enormous kinetic energy, they bounced and rolled, crushing even more monsters.

This seemed to be a signal, completely igniting the fuse of war.

Almost in the very next second after the defenders’ trebuchets fired, the monster camp in the rear, with those giant trebuchets constructed from thick logs and animal hide ropes, began to retaliate.

”Enemy’s rock throw, find cover! Raise shields!!!”

Amidst the commander’s hoarse shouts, the soldiers quickly took cover behind the city wall barricades.

”Boom!”

The boulders hit the city wall, and the edges of the battlements were instantly blasted open into a small opening.

Some of the thrown stones fell like cannonballs.

They struck down on the soldiers’ high-raised large shields.

The immense pressure caused the originally neat shield formation to instantly become crooked, and some unlucky soldiers were pierced by the stones, their blood gushing from the wounds.

”I’m wounded!!”

”Help me! I’m dying!”

...

And on the section of the city wall where Gauss was located, he almost immediately locked onto the giant rock burning with sparks.

In his hand, a blue-gold large bow silently appeared.

As his right hand was placed on the water-like bowstring, a blue arrow glowing with intense magic power appeared between his two fingers.

”Water Manipulation!”

He instantly injected a large amount of Magic Power into the arrow shaft.

The Magic Power released a bright glow, making his surroundings as bright as day in an instant.

Gauss drew the bow fully and released.

The powerful magic arrow flashed through the night sky like lightning, then precisely hit the giant rock plummeting ahead.

”Boom!”

The impact point of the arrow against the giant rock collapsed instantly, and innumerable blue threads surfaced on the rock.

In the next moment, like a water net, it further blocked the shattered rock, reducing its kinetic energy.

Ultimately, the giant rock that was meant to hit the group gathered at the wall flew only halfway before being shot down.

A burst of blue energy returned to Gauss after destroying the rock.

Under Gauss, soldiers witnessing this scene cheered.

After several rounds of mutual stone throwing, both sides have achieved certain results.

The previously orderly wall has become chaotic.

People continually carried injured or dead comrades on stretchers to the medical camp below the wall.

The giant rocks embedded in the walls blocked the normal operation of supplies and soldiers.

As for the Monster Legion, they too suffered from the catapult’s damage, and even more severely.

The monsters were crushed into bloody mud by the rocks, vulnerable as they had no wall defense, exposed openly on the plain.

However, at this moment, they showed a fearless expression, with a blood-boiling drumbeat resounding from the rear of the army upon closer inspection.

Gauss temporarily put down his longbow. The water arrows he shot just now destroyed several giant stones that would have hit the nearby wall.

The first wave of stone-throwing offensives from both sides had subsided.

After the calm passed, the soldiers beneath Gauss couldn’t help but raise their heads, looking towards the figure floating in the sky, feeling a sense of security.

Everyone present knew it was because of the presence above that they weren’t harmed yet.

Nevertheless...

The real war had just begun.

Leveraging the cover from catapults, the Monster Legion had already approached the walls.

One captain after another commanded the nearby soldiers to shoot arrows.

”Release!!”

”Release!”

With orderly commands, the archers alternately stepped forward to shoot arrows.

Arrows tracing parabolas finally landed in the Monster Legion.

Some arrows landed on the ground; others luckily pierced into the monsters’ arms, abdomens, even vital spots like the neck and eyes.

The monsters also raised shields, the front row holding large shields to block incoming arrows, and the rear raising Wooden Shields above their heads.

”Clang, clang, clang!”

Arrows fell like rain.

The monsters also pulled their bows to fight back; for a moment, a rain of parabolic arrows nearly covered the entire view.

Casualties began to appear frequently among both humans and monsters.

The entire battlefield operated like a meat grinder!

”Wait a little longer....”

Gauss tightly scrutinized the monster troops ahead.

He felt the aura swelling with the outbreak of war, becoming powerful while also growing more scattered and chaotic.

Besides, he needed to wait until the monsters got as close as possible to shooting range.

Finally, the two auras of humans and monsters bit into each other, with no time for anything else.

After patiently waiting, Gauss knew he could start acting.

”Fireball Technique!”

He raised his staff high.

A dazzling light then lit up the night sky.

As the monsters just approached the walls.

A terrifying fireball then descended thunderously into the monster army.

”Boom!”

The Fireball Technique instantly released a terrifying burst of light and heat.

The monsters at the explosion center were almost instantly melted into blood.

The monsters on the outskirts fared no better.

The shockwave from the Fireball Technique struck them like a heavy hammer, instantly shattering their organs.

”Goblin*15 killed”

”Goblin*46 killed”

”Jackal-Wolf People*27 killed”

...

Dense messages flashed before Gauss’s eyes.

The Fireball Technique’s first appearance on the battlefield exhibited surprisingly good effects.

However, as a result, he also instantly drew the attention of some powerful entities in the monster camp.

In the sky, the Two-legged Flying Dragon, also sensing the beginning of battle, suddenly dove towards his direction.

”Watch out above!”

Beneath Gauss, Aaliyah, having completed Moonlight to clear a batch of monsters, hurriedly warned.
