Chapter 173: Chapter 173: Conflict at the Entrance to the Settlement

As they moved forward, the Zombies started appearing more frequently. Due to the Blood Moon, even during daytime, the Zombies were more active than ever.

However, they posed no obstacle to the two. Su Changxing paved the way ahead, dealing with Zombies in one swift chop each without much commotion. Their speed was not too fast, nor too slow.

Shen Jinxuan, meanwhile, appeared extremely tense, her whole body taut, constantly guarding against Zombies that might charge at them.

After all, in a Zombie horde, surrounded by Zombies, any loud noise could incite an Undead Tide.

After a while, she gradually relaxed a bit, realizing that Su Changxing judged the Zombies’ alert range exceedingly precisely, walking just on a path where Zombies wouldn’t notice them.

Throughout the journey, neither spoke, only the sound of the blade slicing through bones constantly ringing out, as if composing a strange symphony.

Su Changxing’s blade was very precise, each stroke accurately hitting the Zombie’s head. Every cut seemed exactly the same.

Like a precise sewing machine.

Shen Jinxuan thought this description fitted perfectly, also feeling Su Changxing had seemed to become a different person over these days. He was definitely much stronger than she had seen before, not just twice, possibly even more.

Towards noon, the two arrived near the gathering place without stopping. From afar, they could see the obstacles at the entrance to the gathering place and numerous Zombie bodies.

Shen Jinxuan glanced at a few silhouettes near the entrance hesitantly, asking, ”Is this the gathering place we’re heading to?”

For some reason, arriving at a populated gathering place should be a cheerful thing, yet she found it hard to be happy.

”This must be it.”

Su Changxing shook off the black blood from his Steel Saber, having fought all the way here without panting. He turned to see Shen Jinxuan was also calm-faced, showing no signs of fatigue.

As they approached, many people were crowding at the gathering place entrance, lugging large bags, seemingly all seeking refuge.

A middle-aged man in a black coat, carrying a tattered backpack, saw Su Changxing and Shen Jinxuan approaching with a friendly face, saying, ”Brother, are you here to join the place too? Let’s introduce ourselves so we can look out for each other inside. I’m Tan Xiuning.”

Su Changxing looked around, smiled, and asked, ”I’m Su Changxing. Why? Can we not enter the gathering place now?”

Tan Xiuning glanced at Shen Jinxuan behind Su Changxing and said, ”Yes, everyone entering must verify their identity, they say to prevent Hunters from sneaking in. Hey, brother, you must be something to drag a woman along in the apocalypse.”

Su Changxing and Shen Jinxuan clearly stood out, being clean, with high-grade knives, only produced by the Mysterious Shop.

Seeing at least thirty to forty people outside, Su Changxing pondered and said, ”If it’s just checks, it shouldn’t take this long. Is there another issue?”

Tan Xiuning sighed, ”It’s about distribution. Teams outside have few resources or are full of women and children. Brother, like you, bringing a woman, you also have to wait outside.”

Su Changxing estimated that the gathering place must’ve suddenly received many people, leading to a temporary plan favoring quality teams first, while others could only enter slowly.

With lots of people gathering, constant dealing with Zombies as they swarmed.

Su Changxing nodded, saying, ”I’ll give it a try.”

Tan Xiuning said no more, thinking Su Changxing would surely come running back as neither the guards nor others would let them in.

Shen Jinxuan, hat pulled low, hiding her face in shadows, followed saying, ”He is very interested in your backpack.”

”I know.”

Su Changxing noticed many eyes on them, some filled with worry, others with strange smiles.

”Kid, you won’t get in. First come, first served.”

A burly bald man blocked Su Changxing, threateningly.

As he spoke, several others resting on the ground stood up, staring at Su Changxing, weapons in hand.

In such circumstances, everyone was desperate to enter the gathering place first since outsiders could be abandoned by insiders at any time.

Su Changxing thought and smiled, ”Sadly, the rules here aren’t made by you. You’re just trying to join yourselves.”

The bald man stared at Su Changxing, surprised he wasn’t afraid, but having spoken, losing face to back down was not an option.

He gestured, and four or five men surrounded Su Changxing, ready for a fight.

In this primal environment, the strongest and fiercest rule, gaining the most voice and resources.

Tan Xiuning seeing this thought it was bad, not expecting Su Changxing to confront without backing down.

This was definitely going to turn into a fight.

Indeed, they clashed the next minute, screams followed, but it wasn’t Su Changxing who fell, rather the bald man’s group.

Su Changxing delivered punches to the bald man’s stomach and another’s, kicking one in the chest, knocking down three.

Su Changxing looked at the struggling ones on the ground seriously, saying, ”So weak, don’t embarrass yourselves.”

These were just Ordinary People, having not undergone a single enhancement.

Tan Xiuning stood stunned, not expecting Su Changxing to be this fierce. Surely, someone like him would have no trouble joining the gathering place.

”What are you doing, I said no fighting here.”

A stern voice came from behind the bald man’s group.

Yan Xu approached with a few people, noticing Su Changxing, hesitating, not understanding why these people picked a fight with him.

He quickly came forward, coldly looking at those on the ground, saying:

”Brother Su, what happened, were these people troubling you? Do you need me to kick them out?”

Brother Su?

The bald man felt defeated, realizing Su Changxing was part of the gathering place, likely with influence. They probably wouldn’t get in now.

Su Changxing found Yan Xu’s nimbleness commendable in handling such things, responding nonchalantly, ”No need, just deal with it.”

He gestured to Shen Jinxuan and walked past the bald man’s group heading inside.
