Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Pursuit and Assassination

Cookie crumbs?

The man with dimpled skin noticed the debris underfoot and realized such things shouldn’t be here; the Otherworld human was in the room next door.

A faint smile appeared on his face. He avoided the debris, silently came to the doorway, and looked inside, pausing in surprise to see only an empty room.

Suddenly, a gust of wind came from behind, causing the man to react and slash backward with his long-handled axe.

”Clang~”

The sound of blades clashing resounded through the corridor.

Su Changxing leaped through the window from the adjacent room to the man’s rear, slashing at him with a saber. His strength was clearly superior, pressing down the man’s axe and aiming towards his abdomen.

At the same time, the man’s body erupted with dazzling lightning, accompanied by a sharp roar, appearing extremely brilliant in the darkness,

A paralyzing sensation spread from Su Changxing’s arms throughout his body.

However, his physique proved quite formidable at that moment. Despite the intense paralysis, he still managed to decisively stab through the man’s abdomen, where the lungs were.

The blood-red blade protruded from the man’s back, covered with lightning.

The electricity surrounding the man didn’t cease with his injury; instead, it became more dazzling, sparking on both their clothes and beginning to ignite.

Seeing this, Su Changxing quickly withdrew a dagger from his waist, leaped forward to tackle him, and struck his temple with the dagger, causing blood to splatter onto his face, and the lightning to suddenly cease.

He felt waves of numbness and pain throughout his body, with internal organs already injured by the electrical strikes.

Su Changxing extinguished the flames on his body, glanced at the man on the ground, preparing to leave, when he sensed the piercing sound of wind from the window side indicating something quickly approaching. Instinctively, he crouched down again.

”Bang~”

Like the sound of a gunshot, fragments sprayed around; a fist-sized crater and a halved arrow shaft appeared on the wall.

Seeing this scene, Su Changxing felt a chill in his heart. Had he not dodged, he surely would have been half-dead.

Deciding swiftly, he ran across the corridor into a room opposite, climbed through the window to the third floor, sprinting toward the staircase, just in time to hear footsteps below.

Clearly, he had detected the other party and been detected as well.

Su Changxing raised his gun, pre-aiming at the corner of the staircase, estimating the time the opponent would appear and fired in advance.

”Bang~”

The person was very sensitive, twisting his body just in time to dodge the bullet, leaving a smoking bullet hole on the ground.

Su Changxing brandished his steel saber, leaping forward for a swift strike, giving the Hunter almost no time to evade.

”Ah~”

A dreadful scream.

A deep wound appeared on the Hunter’s chest, severing several ribs, causing blood to gush out,

Luckily, he had managed to dodge, avoiding a complete disemboweling.

The fundamental strength and speed of Su Changxing were overwhelmingly superior, making it difficult for ordinary Hunters to compensate with skill.

The shadow glided across the dark ground like flowing water, as if alive.

”Die.”

Though wounded, the Hunter’s face showed a trace of frenzied excitement. A black shadow extended from his shadow, appearing behind Su Changxing, raising a pitch-black blade with unexpected murderous intent.

This black shadow shared the height and physique of the Hunter, and its blurry face bore some resemblance.

”Bang~”

Su Changxing also sensed something emerging behind him, glancing sideways to see the shadow and fired a gun.

The gunfire erupted, the bullet shooting towards the shadow’s forehead but didn’t pierce through as expected, instead embedding in the shadow’s body.

At the same time, the shadow’s motion didn’t halt due to the bullet, slashing at Su Changxing at high speed.

Su Changxing suddenly realized he couldn’t block the attack with his saber in time, having to lean forward to dodge the shadow’s strike as much as possible.

”Bang.”

Another shot, Su Changxing blew off the Hunter’s head, but took a slash from the shadow on his back, resulting in intense pain.

Fortunately, his body’s endurance was high, and having dodged somewhat, the wound wasn’t too deep.

After the Hunter’s death, the shadow’s movement became stiff, gradually dissipating into the darkness.

Su Changxing took a deep breath, lamenting how formidable these Hunters’ abilities were, hard to guard against. ”True Knowledge” took over ten seconds to provide corresponding information, and the details weren’t always enough to discern the enemy’s capabilities.

[Half Twisted Humans: Shadow Controller Tier Nine (Upper Rank), deceased. Shadow is as one, controlling the darkness.]

It was a truly powerful position; the shadow’s strength far exceeded the main body, with immense resistance, even able to withstand bullet impacts.

Su Changxing gritted his teeth, enduring the pain on his back, ran into a room on the second floor’s other side, and leapt out of the window, landing steadily on the street.

Immediately thereafter, an alertness gripped him; he sidestepped swiftly, feeling the wind pass by his ear, a blade shining with a cold gleam brushed past his face.

A figure appeared out of nowhere beside Su Changxing, lifting the saber again towards Su Changxing’s face, sneering, ”As expected of you, quick indeed.”

Calm-faced, Su Changxing slashed at the opponent, but changed his movement in the flash of a moment, ducking and rolling sideways as if dodging something.

”Bang~”

A small pit exploded by Su Changxing’s foot, with arrow shards ejecting outward.

Looking up, he saw a shadow wielding a massive bow and arrow, standing under the Blood Moon on the rooftop, obscured by a thin veil, but clearly a tall woman.

The Hunter beside him had vanished into the night, while four or five zombies lunged towards Su Changxing.

His position should be Nightwalker; he’d encountered similar-positioned Hunters before, but this one was much stronger.

A voice shouted in his head, ”Two people in the alley are running this way.”

Dodging the pouncing zombies, Su Changxing sprinted down the street, with roars filling his ears.

The gunshots had attracted a large number of zombies, forming a huge Undead Tide around him.

Five meters, four meters, three meters...

He silently estimated the distance, dodging sideways again when the anticipated arrow never came; according to his judgment, that should have been the Archer’s prime shot.

Have I been seen through?

Or perhaps her shooting intervals were longer than I thought.

”Bang bang~”

While dodging, Su Changxing raised his gun to fire into the gaps among zombies, suspecting the Nightwalker might be in that position.

Two consecutive bullets flew out, causing a spray of blood in the air, and a figure appeared amid the air, falling to the ground.

One bullet hit his thigh, another pierced his chest; injuries that weren’t fatal to an Extraordinary, but quite a few zombies were around, pouncing on him.

”Ah~”

The continuous wailing came from behind Su Changxing, as the Hunter was torn apart by seven or eight zombies, blood filling the uneven asphalt ground.

”So, do zombies count towards my kills?”

Su Changxing murmured, the Nightwalker’s position was precisely as he had expected.

If truly followed by this Nightwalker would be troublesome, more crucially, the enhancement of speed during stealth was incredible, making it uncertain if he could lose him.

With more zombies swarming from ahead, he had no choice but to run into a side alley, already sustaining four or five wounds from zombie claws.

Once surrounded by the Undead Tide, escape would be nearly impossible.
