Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 448: Chapter 438: Leaving

The scene unfolding before them was an absolute farce.

Xu Jinsan and Zhou Jingyi had been married for nearly thirty years, and he had never seen his wife act like this.

By the time he snapped out of it, his wife was already standing to the side, straightening her disheveled clothes and hair.

”You’re moving out. Immediately,” Zhou Jingyi stated flatly.

Even Tang Mo found Mrs. Xu’s reaction today completely unexpected. The change was just too drastic.

”Move out. Get out of my house.” Seizing the opportunity, Tang Mo chimed in.

”Who are you to tell me to move? Xu Jinsan hasn’t said a word. What right do you two have to be spouting this nonsense?”

It was as if Tan Jing had had her brains beaten out of her. She completely disregarded the mother and daughter, utterly forgetting the fact that her family was living under their roof.

Xu Jinsan’s face turned green when he heard this. Although his word was usually law in the house, he already felt guilty toward his own family for letting his brother’s family move in this time.

After all, Xu Jinsan wasn’t blind. He was well aware of what this family was usually like.

What’s more, ever since Xu Yuanshan’s family had arrived, he, Jingyi, and Xiao Yin hadn’t had a single full meal.

(Of course, this was purely Xu Jinsan’s own imagination. He was the only one eating poorly and going hungry. Zhou Jingyi and Tang Mo had their own private stash and were eating quite well.)

Behind closed doors, Xu Jinsan had often tried to soften his wife up, hoping she wouldn’t hold a grudge.

But now, for his sister-in-law to do something like this and say such things... she had truly pushed the situation to a dead end.

Even Xu Jinsan no longer had any reason to try and persuade his wife and daughter.

”You should leave while it’s still light out,” Xu Jinsan finally spoke, offering his brother’s family a final way out. ”There’s a property management center not far from here. It has enough rooms for your whole family to sleep in.”

”Aren’t there bad people there? Big Brother, you’re forcing our family of three to our deaths!”

Tan Jing still remembered what they had said when they first discussed the property management center. She slapped her thigh, plopped down on the floor, and started wailing and wiping away fake tears.

She knew that her husband’s older brother was a total softy and couldn’t stand scenes like this.

”Bad people? Don’t worry. Birds of a feather flock together, after all.”

Now that all pretenses were dropped, Tang Mo certainly wasn’t going to hold back.

”Brother, are you serious?”

Xu Yuanshan looked at his older brother. In his heart, he knew his wife and child had behaved atrociously today.

But Xu Jinsan was his own flesh-and-blood brother. ’To do something so heartless...’ Xu Yuanshan seethed with resentment.

’Just because he’s doing better than me, he thinks he can decide everyone’s fate.’

”Yes. Pack your things and go. It’s better to leave at dawn.”

Xu Jinsan didn’t look at him, and he especially didn’t look at Tan Jing, who was still making a scene on the floor. He turned and went back to his room.

Seeing that the key player had left, Tan Jing couldn’t be bothered to continue her act. She climbed to her feet, rubbing her aching back and thighs where she had just been hit.

”Fine, we’ll go. Give us half the food.”

Now that the matter was set in stone, she was naturally going to fight for the maximum benefit for herself.

”Are you out of your mind?” Tang Mo laughed. ”Or are you sleep-talking?”

”What’s wrong with that? There are four of us, and only three in your family. Asking for half is letting you off easy!”

After living in this house for a few days, Tan Jing had long since started to feel like everything belonged to her.

”Is any of this stuff yours? Did you buy it? Did you haul it back from the supermarket? Are you nuts?”

Tang Mo truly couldn’t understand what on earth was going through this woman’s head at a time like this.

”Sister-in-law, are you really not going to leave us any way to survive? Are you just going to watch us die?”

It seemed as though all the courage Zhou Jingyi had mustered was used up in that one outburst. Faced with Xu Yuanshan’s aggressive questioning, she was at a loss for words.

”That’s right. We do want you to die,” Tang Mo replied with a beaming smile.

In the end, without Xu Jinsan as their protector, Tan Jing’s family of three finally accepted their fate of being thrown out.

The four of them were packing their bags when Tan Jing must have whispered something to Xu Shan. A moment later, Xu Shan approached Zhou Jingyi and Tang Mo, looking conflicted and walking slowly.

”Um, could I stay here and cook for you? I can help with the baby.”

Xu Shan had been helping with the child this whole time, which had lightened Zhou Jingyi’s load considerably. She was also a quiet person and got along well with Zhou Jingyi.

Besides, Xu Jinsan respected Xu Shan from the bottom of his heart. As such, Zhou Jingyi naturally had no objection to her sister-in-law staying.

Tang Mo had no objection either. From what she’d seen, Xu Shan was a very low-key person who hadn’t caused any trouble.

The real Xu Yin had never disliked this aunt, who always brought her tasty treats whenever she visited, so Tang Mo didn’t voice any opposition.

When Xu Jinsan came out for a meal in the afternoon and saw his older sister was still there, his foul expression cleared up by seventy or eighty percent.

Meanwhile, Xu Yuanshan’s family of three quickly found the property management center.

But as soon as they entered, they saw several men tied up and on the verge of death.

Zhang Laohu and his men had been tied up here for some time now. A normal person would have likely died of dehydration already.

However, Zhang Laohu and his men were all superpower users. Their bodies had been enhanced and were better adapted to the apocalypse, so they were still clinging to life.

”Mom, those men are so scary! Let’s not stay here.”

Xu Ru hid fearfully behind Tan Jing and Xu Yuanshan.

”What’s there to be afraid of? They’re tied up, aren’t they? And gagged. It’s fine.”

Xu Yuanshan had just seen that the rooms in the property management center were well-furnished and fully equipped. He was truly sick of sleeping on the floor for the past few days. Having finally found a place like this, he had no intention of leaving.

’They’re just a few tied-up men. What’s there to be scared of?’

When Zhang Laohu and his men first saw people arrive, their eyes lit up. But when they saw the newcomers ignore them, they were filled with rage. They grunted and groaned, unable to form any syllables, only managing to create some noise.

”What are we going to eat now?”

Tan Jing had searched all the rooms but couldn’t find anything to eat.

After all, the place had already been thoroughly looted once. It would be strange indeed if she could find anything edible now.

”We’re in an unfamiliar place with no one to even ask for help. I told you we shouldn’t have left, but you insisted,” Tan Jing complained.

”What do you mean ’no one’? Aren’t these guys right here ready for the taking?”

Xu Yuanshan fixed his gaze on Zhang Laohu and his men.
