Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 429: Chapter 419: Fighting Her to the Death

Tang Mo looked thoughtfully at Wen Qianli’s profile picture. ’Young, beautiful, two kids, all alone.’

Connecting these key points made the nanny’s claims seem a bit more plausible.

However, recently, with everyone’s help, Wen Qianli’s child had recovered from their illness. Grateful, she had become a very active member of the group chat.

Whether in her speech, her knack for lightening the mood with jokes, or her general knowledge, she displayed high emotional intelligence. She was well-informed and insightful—clearly more than just an empty-headed pretty face.

As a result, over time, the group members had grown quite fond of the young woman who’d had children so early. So when they saw the nanny’s accusations, everyone fell silent.

Everyone has a moral compass, but when the person in question is someone you know, your judgment isn’t quite so impartial.

[Wen Qianli]: Where are you hiding?

After a long silence, Wen Qianli didn’t refute the nanny’s words, nor did she show any anger. Instead, as if she hadn’t heard a thing, she simply asked where the nanny was hiding.

[Flowers Along the Way]: What for? You think a ninety-something-pound weakling like you can take me on? You don’t even have a man in the house, and you dare show up? Who gave you the nerve? Don’t overestimate yourself, kid.

The nanny sneered, but she didn’t reveal her address.

Even though she wasn’t afraid of the skinny woman, she decided it was better to be safe and not tell anyone her address.

’Who knew which side the people in this group would ultimately take?’

The nanny had at least some sense, but it was clear Wen Qianli wasn’t about to give up.

[Wen Qianli]: Where is she?

This time, Wen Qianli was asking Zhang Laohu, and she even tagged him.

Wen Qianli was a very clever woman. Though Zhang Laohu was her enemy, he clearly wasn’t close with the nanny either.

’He’d never turn down a good show.’

[Zhang Laohu]: Apartment 3, Unit 2, Building 17

A moment later, Zhang Laohu posted the nanny’s address in the group, adding a cheering emoji for good measure.

Finding the nanny’s fellow villager among the registered staff was easy—coincidentally, there was only one. It couldn’t have been anyone else.

[Wen Qianli]: I live in Apartment 1, Unit 1, Building 2. If I haven’t sent a message in the group by tonight, please, if you’re able, help me look after my children. If not, then forget it. That’s just their fate.

After sending this message, Wen Qianli went silent, no matter what anyone else said in the group.

This blatant threat shocked everyone. Behind her screen, the nanny jumped in fright.

She’d been her nanny for over a year, ever since the children were born. As far as she knew, Wen Qianli was nothing more than a meek little girl.

’Even if Wen Qianli came here dead-set on a fight, could she really beat me, a 165-pound woman who does hard labor all day? Besides, I’m not alone. I have my friend from back home with me!’

The nanny scanned the group chat again and felt her resolve harden.

Not a single person had offered to help Wen Qianli. She was coming alone.

It made sense, really. This was a private grudge, a fight between two women. It wasn’t right for others to get involved.

Furthermore, Wen Qianli’s intentions were clear. She wasn’t just going there to argue; she was going to get her food back.

Everyone knew she was raising two children and was on the verge of running out of food.

Stepping in to help a practical stranger at a time like this might make one look like they had ulterior motives—especially with a single mother involved, and given the nanny’s accusations...

No one wanted to wade into these muddy waters. It was just a fight between two women. How serious could it be?

Besides, the nanny wasn’t stupid. Wen Qianli probably wouldn’t even be able to get through the door.

But to everyone’s surprise, Wen Qianli did get through the door. In fact, she got in with surprising ease.

The door wasn’t locked at all—it was just pulled to.

The nanny had brought a large stash of food when she came to stay with her friend. To be honest, no matter how close they usually were, a situation like this bred distrust.

Her friend had a key to the apartment; she didn’t.

This apartment was the only place they had to live. The nanny was terrified that her friend might wait until she was sound asleep, throw her out, and lock the door behind her. If that happened, she’d be done for.

With nowhere to go and nothing to eat, she would die faster than anyone.

So, the nanny simply went and broke the lock.

When her friend, who had originally been very close to her, saw the broken lock, she instantly understood the nanny’s thinking. A rift formed between them. Now, they were only sticking together because of the large amount of food the nanny had brought; it was merely a partnership of convenience.

Wen Qianli, however, had come prepared. Assuming the door would be locked, she had brought a fire axe from her home.

She never expected the door to open with a gentle push. The nanny, not taking her seriously in the slightest, was completely off guard. She sat in the living room with her arms crossed, giving Wen Qianli a sidelong glance.

She thought Wen Qianli had come to argue. She had just opened her mouth to launch a preemptive verbal assault when a silver gleam flashed down toward her head.

It was Wen Qianli’s axe.

The attack was instantaneous. No one could have imagined that the woman in the designer dress could be so vicious, swinging the axe without even letting the nanny get a word out.

Tang Mo wasn’t there, but if he had been, he would have cheered her on.

’What was there to talk about? What else needed to be said?’

Everything that needed to be said, and everything that didn’t, had already been said. It was time for action.

The nanny’s reflexes were decent, though. She managed a slight dodge, and the axe, instead of hitting her head, sank into her shoulder.

”Are you crazy?!”

The nanny was scared out of her wits. She instinctively fought back, and the two women began to grapple.

The nanny’s strength was overwhelmingly superior, but she was no match for Wen Qianli’s suicidal ferocity.

Right now, Wen Qianli was like a lioness fighting with no regard for her own life. Seemingly unable to feel pain, she charged right through the nanny’s punches and kicks.

She’d take two hits just to land one blow of her own. The axe seemed fused to her hand, impossible to wrench from her grasp.

”She’s crazy! She’s completely insane!”

Soon, both the nanny and Wen Qianli were covered in blood.

”You’re still not giving the food back,” Wen Qianli said, her face a mask of blood.

She had come here today ready to die.

’She had already thought it through. It was impossible to count on the property management center for food anymore. Without food, she and her children would die anyway. She might as well gamble her life for a chance.’

”Xiao Li, quick, come help me!”

The nanny started screaming for help. Her friend was in the other room; she knew she had to have heard her.
