Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 445: Chapter 435: Sneaking Food

One meal a day wasn’t enough, even with their minimal daily activity, especially since that one meal was never filling.

Xu Ru complained about being hungry every day. Although her family wasn’t particularly wealthy, Xu Yuanshan and Tan Jing had always raised their daughter like a princess. She had never been wronged or gone hungry.

Watching her daughter suffer from hunger every day, Tan Jing gradually started thinking about giving her extra food.

It was difficult to do during the day with so many prying eyes around, but nighttime was a different story.

When everyone was asleep, Tan Jing quietly got up without turning on the lights, went to the kitchen, and took out one of the steamed buns from earlier that day.

”Here, eat.”

Tan Jing gently shook her sleeping daughter awake and handed her the steamed bun.

She had secretly steamed this bun along with the others, hiding it from Zhou Jingyi.

The number of steamed buns was counted, so a missing one would be obvious. But a small handful of flour wouldn’t be noticed. After all, no one would weigh those things with a scale every day.

”A steamed bun!”

Groggy, Xu Ru opened her eyes and subconsciously reached out to grab it. Only when she was holding it did she let out a cry of surprise.

’Mom actually saved a plain steamed bun for me.’

Without a second thought, she began to devour it in large bites.

Watching her daughter eat, Tan Jing’s stomach started to growl, and she began to swallow her saliva instinctively.

”What are you eating?”

The glaring light made Tan Jing and Xu Ru squint. Xu Yuanshan, who had been sleeping, was also woken by the commotion.

”Xu Yin, what are you doing?”

Xu Yuanshan truly disliked this niece of his, who was always so calculating about every little thing.

Seeing Tang Mo standing in the living room, her hand still on the light switch, he asked harshly.

”What am I doing? Why don’t you look at what your precious daughter is doing?”

Xu Yuanshan instinctively turned to look and saw his daughter holding a half-eaten large steamed bun, her cheeks still bulging.

Caught red-handed. It was obvious she was sneaking food.

Tan Jing stood to the side, her head lowered in unease.

’Stupid woman!’

Xu Yuanshan cursed his wife inwardly. Sneaking food for their daughter was one thing, but getting caught in the act was another.

Before, having a late-night snack was no big deal.

But things were different now. Every meal for every person was carefully planned. If you ate a little more, it meant someone else ate a little less.

Even though they were one family, everyone else was going hungry. What did it look like for them to be secretly having extra?

But what was done was done...

Xu Yuanshan calmed himself.

”Your younger sister is still young and growing. What’s wrong with her eating a little extra?”

”That’s right, what’s wrong with it? I’m the one who cooks all the meals. Is it so wrong for Ruru to eat one extra steamed bun?”

As if she had found her backbone, Tan Jing immediately chimed in.

The couple was quick to form a united front.

Their words were so shameless that Tang Mo laughed in anger.

”What’s going on? Why are the lights on so late at night instead of sleeping?”

Ever since the living room air conditioner broke, all the doors except Tang Mo’s were left open. Xu Jinsan, woken by the light and noise, came out.

Xu Ru hadn’t put down the bun in her hand, nor had she swallowed the bite in her mouth out of nervousness.

What was happening was clear at a glance.

Xu Jinsan fell silent.

”Stop arguing and go to sleep. Yinyin, turn off the light.”

With that, Xu Jinsan returned to his bedroom and closed the door.

Seeing that the head of the family hadn’t said anything, Tan Jing grew bolder, looking at Tang Mo with a provocative stare.

”Aren’t you going to turn off the light?” Xu Yuanshan said, before lying back down himself.

”Ruru, your uncle said you could eat it. Don’t be scared. Eat slowly, Mommy will get you a glass of water.”

Tan Jing actually went to the kitchen and poured a glass of water for Xu Ru.

In that moment, Tang Mo suddenly felt dizzy. The whole world seemed to spin before her eyes, and her legs grew so weak she could barely stand.

FLICK!

Tang Mo turned off the light. Without a word, she used the last of her strength to stumble back to her room and collapsed heavily onto the bed.

She couldn’t hold on any longer. Sinking into the bed, Tang Mo felt as if she had lost control of her body.

A surge of Strength suddenly erupted within her, running wild. The master of this Strength, as if provoked, rampaged recklessly, causing Tang Mo to momentarily lose control of this body.

Tang Mo knew it was the last remnants of Xu Yin’s energy.

Xu Yin’s soul had long since dissipated, but because the body still existed, a final trace of her energy remained hidden within it.

The scene just now had caused this body immense pain. ℴ

Because it was so provoked, that energy had suddenly spun out of control.

In truth, the Xu Family’s sordid affairs were just part of a story in a mission world for Tang Mo. No matter what happened, there was nothing worth getting angry about.

But it was different for Xu Yin. This was the family she had desperately tried to protect, the home she had given her life to defend.

It was the same in the last life. It was because of Xu Jinsan’s constant indulgence that Xu Yuanshan and Tan Jing’s family became more and more outrageous, eventually taking a mile when given an inch and seizing the nest for themselves.

The ones who hurt you the most are never outsiders, but those closest to you.

Xu Jinsan’s attitude just now said it all. He didn’t want to get involved, and he didn’t want Xu Yin to get involved either.

The body’s violent reaction didn’t cause Tang Mo to panic. She first let the energy rampage for a while before trying to soothe her.

’I’ll get revenge for you. I won’t let what happened in the last life happen again. I won’t let them get away with this. Bad people will get what they deserve. I promise you.’

Tang Mo thought this silently. She was in Xu Yin’s body now, and she knew that Xu Yin could definitely feel these words.

Tang Mo repeated these words over and over. Slowly, that surge of energy seemed to truly calm down.

After another moment, the energy seemed to have understood and believed Tang Mo’s words. It began to dissipate, receding back into the corners of the body.

Tang Mo regained control of the body.

Tang Mo moved her hands and feet. Finding nothing amiss, she sat up again and looked toward the door.

’These past few days, I’ve been too naive.’

She had thought that with someone else cooking, she could eat a little better, Mrs. Xu would have an easier time, and Xu Jinsan could rest easy.

She figured that with her around, those few couldn’t stir up any real trouble. It seemed like a win-win-win situation, so letting them stay for a few days was no big deal.

Wasn’t her mission in this world just to help Xu Yin’s parents survive these three months?

These people didn’t affect her mission plan, and she really couldn’t be bothered to deal with them.

But Tang Mo had considered so many people, the only one she hadn’t considered was the host of this body, her client, Xu Yin’s feelings.
