Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 442: Chapter 432: Where Will They Sleep

”Then what do we do? Those two little brats are so young, they can’t possibly take up such a big room all by themselves.”

Tan Jing pursed her lips, a little dissatisfied.

She knew how much this elder brother’s family doted on their daughter. Plus, Xu Yin had always had a reputation in the family for being someone not to mess with, so even though she knew Xu Yin’s room was the biggest, she didn’t dare say anything.

But these two extra kids were different. They weren’t even surnamed Xu. On what grounds did they get to stay in a big room and sleep in a bed?

”How about this: Auntie can take Pingping and An’an to sleep in that room. She’s experienced with children and can look after them.”

In the end, it was Tang Mo who proposed a solution, and this time, no one could say a thing.

Xu Shan naturally had no objections. She was used to working hard. She had single-handedly raised both Xu Yuanshan and Xu Ru, so she was more than comfortable looking after children.

”Then where do we sleep?” Xu Ru immediately asked.

Their aunt had a place to sleep, but they still didn’t!

”How about you sleep on the sofa, Xiao Ru? The one in the living room is quite large.”

Xu Jinsan was at a loss.

Xu Ru glanced at the sofa, then looked toward Xu Yin’s room without a word.

’The sofa is indeed large,’ she thought, ’but not as large as my older cousin’s room. I remember sneaking into her room once when we were children and seeing so many beautiful clothes and toys.’

She wanted to stay in her cousin’s room, but after glancing at Xu Yin’s expression, Xu Ru didn’t dare say it.

”What about Tan Jing and me?”

Xu Yuanshan looked around the living room. The sofa was clearly not big enough for three people.

”You’ll just have to sleep on the floor,” Tang Mo said, crossing her arms.

”Sleep on the floor? We’re all family, so how come Big Sister gets to sleep in a bed while we have to sleep on the floor?”

Tan Jing’s voice grew shrill. Her words were truly heartless, as if the ”Big Sister” she spoke of wasn’t the same person who had worked tirelessly for them for over a decade without complaint.

”If you don’t want to sleep on the floor, Auntie, then don’t force it. If it’s really that much of a problem, you can just go back. As long as Xu Shan stays, we’re good.”

Tang Mo wasn’t about to indulge her. She said it as if anyone was forcing her to stay. In fact, Tang Mo wished she would leave immediately.

”We nearly died just getting here, how can we go back? If we go back out there, we’ll really be goners! Yinyin, you wouldn’t be so heartless, would you?”

Sensing Xu Yin’s attitude toward them, Tan Jing’s tone began to soften.

When you’re under someone else’s roof, you have to bow your head.

Some people are like that: the weaker you are, the more they bully you.

If you act tough, they’ll start being polite instead.

In fact, Tan Jing wasn’t lying. Their journey here had been genuinely difficult. If they hadn’t run out of food completely, facing certain starvation if they stayed, they never would have made such a decision.

An ordinary person could only survive for ten minutes at most out in that mist.

Xu Yuanshan and the others had used those ten minutes to escape into their car. With the doors and windows tightly shut and the AC’s circulation system running, they drove all the way to the base of Xu Yin’s apartment building, then jumped out and rushed inside.

That was how they’d made the heart-pounding journey to the elder brother’s home.

Surrounded by mist, with visibility severely limited, driving under such conditions was actually incredibly dangerous.

But thankfully, there were hardly any cars on the streets. After a few minor bumps and scrapes, they arrived at their destination, shaken but safe.

Neither Tan Jing nor Xu Yuanshan wanted to go through that terrifying ordeal again.

”That’s right, Yinyin. It’s too dangerous to make them go back out now.”

Xu Jinsan’s bleeding-heart halo was starting to glow again.

”Fine, they don’t have to go back. Aren’t there a few rooms at the property management center? The rooms are big, fully furnished, and have AC. They could sleep there. It’s only a three-minute walk.”

Tang Mo offered another suggestion. As long as they were out of the apartment, she really couldn’t care less where they slept.

”That’s not a bad idea...”

Xu Jinsan knew the place his daughter was talking about. Weren’t those the same rooms where they had locked up Zhang Laohu?

But...

”Aren’t there still people tied up there? That’s too dangerous!”

Xu Jinsan suddenly remembered that Zhang Laohu and his men were still locked up there.

”They’ll starve to death in a few more days. Besides, they’re tied up. The place is huge, just lock them in a room. Out of sight, out of mind.”

Tang Mo said these chilling words with a sweet and docile expression.

Xu Yuanshan and his wife didn’t quite understand, but they shivered anyway.

’What’s all this about tying people up and starving them to death? How can that be ’out of sight, out of mind’??’

”Well, that’s true. Why don’t we...?”

Perhaps because of everything he had been through recently, Xu Jinsan didn’t find anything wrong with what his daughter had said. In fact, he thought it made perfect sense.

”No, no! We’ll just sleep on the floor! The floor is great, just great.”

Tan Jing quickly refused, insisting that the floor was very spacious and they were very satisfied with it.

”Oh, good.”

Seeing that everyone was satisfied, Xu Jinsan flashed a blissfully naive smile.

With the sleeping arrangements finally settled, the next issue was food.

Tang Mo and Mrs. Xu had already discussed it. Their family had been eating two meals a day, but with several new mouths to feed, they would have to tighten their belts to ensure they had enough food for the coming days.

Although Tang Mo knew in her heart that the family was in no danger of running out of food, when it came to Xu Jinsan’s saintly behavior, she hoped he would bear the consequences of his own choices.

Let Xu Jinsan go hungry. In any case, Tang Mo had her own private stash and wouldn’t let herself or Mrs. Xu starve.

The huge apartment, which originally housed Xu Yin’s family of three, now held a total of nine people: their aunt Xu Shan, Xu Yuanshan’s family of three, plus Pingping and An’an.

The apartment was no longer quiet; it had become a hive of activity.

Pingping and An’an were chasing each other and roughhousing, with Zhou Jingyi following beside them.

Xu Shan, who had no children of her own, had a natural affection for them. She joined Zhou Jingyi in looking after the kids and started playing with them.

Xu Jinsan and Xu Yuanshan were sitting on the sofa, watching the news reports looping on TV.

The mother-daughter pair, Tan Jing and Xu Ru, sat on the other end of the sofa, absently scrolling through their phones. They were mentally calculating just how much food Xu Jinsan’s family had, and how long it would last with so many people.

Everyone was in the living room. Tang Mo found it far too crowded and retreated to her own room to eat snacks and watch TV shows by herself.

There were so many shows she had missed over the years. A quick search was all it took to find something she wanted to watch.

With more people around, time seemed to fly, and night fell quickly.
