Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 408: Chapter 398: Comprehensive

Right now, even with the combined wisdom of everyone in the base, no one could figure out how to find a new food source after the mutant beasts were wiped out.

The fact that the mutant beasts could now reproduce had definitely solved a huge problem for them.

In Tang Mo’s eyes, this was actually a good thing.

Not only was the food problem solved, but it also meant they could cleanse the world at a much faster rate, allowing her to go home sooner.

Besides, even if a few stragglers were left scattered about, they would serve as a constant reminder for the people of this world.

Never give up on improving one’s strength, and never allow oneself to grow complacent.

A great, hidden danger would always be lurking, watching menacingly. They could never let their guard down.

After all, once the Red-eyed Mutant Beasts were gone, who knew what else might appear?

The apocalypse had arrived, and the days of old were never coming back. So even if the mutant beast situation was temporarily under control, they had to remain vigilant at all times.

After hearing Tang Mo’s explanation, everyone calmed down and thought it over. The grim expressions on their faces gradually faded, replaced by relief.

’She’s right. We were at a dead end. Now that a new path has opened up for us, how can we afford to be picky?’

As they came to their senses, everyone couldn’t help but feel a little ashamed.

’To think we’ve lived for so many years, yet we don’t have the same broad perspective as the young woman before us.’

With the core strategy decided, the subsequent tasks would be much easier to handle step-by-step.

The base’s leadership team, headed by Yang Jie, had a clear division of labor. It was a very united and orderly group.

The researchers immediately took the middle-aged man to the laboratory to find out exactly where the mutant beasts’ reproductive organs were located.

It wasn’t that they had never dissected mutant beasts before. However, according to the man, the organs were exceptionally unusual—they came in a set of two and were impossible to identify unless you were specifically looking for them.

Furthermore, everyone had been misled by their own preconceived notions.

After all, in all this time, no one had ever seen a small mutant beast, let alone a pregnant one. The creatures looked completely identical, making it impossible to even distinguish their gender. The idea that they could reproduce was truly unimaginable.

If the organs were indeed hidden inside the mutant beasts’ bodies as the man claimed, then everything would be much simpler. After all, with the mutant beasts’ powerful Life Force, performing a minor surgery wouldn’t be a problem.

Coupled with their formidable reproductive capabilities, they wouldn’t need to farm very many to become self-sufficient.

Meanwhile, the people in the conference room had already begun discussing how to exterminate all the mutant beasts as quickly as possible.

No one knew on what day these damn things would suddenly awaken their ability to reproduce on a massive scale. If that happened, the situation would become truly uncontrollable. They had to act before that point.

In fact, looking out onto the streets now, one could hardly see any sign of mutant beasts. Although the creatures were numerous, there were even more people hiding in every corner of the city.

People’s daily food consumption was enormous, and what’s more, these things were essentially currency.

But many still gathered in more secluded places, and they had to be wiped out completely.

After a thorough discussion among everyone in the conference room, they finally settled on a plan.

It would be a three-pronged approach.

First, the base would issue a notice: one mutant beast could be exchanged for 25 meatballs. This greatly exceeded the amount of food that could be made from a single beast.

However, this offer was conditional—it had a time limit of three days.

After three days, the base would no longer accept any more mutant beasts.

One mutant beast could be processed into 20 meatballs, so the extra five would have to be covered by the base’s existing stockpile.

After all, the base had made a hefty, if unscrupulous, profit in the beginning. Now it was time to put those gains to use.

This would significantly boost the public’s motivation to hunt mutant beasts, and the three-day limit would ensure the timeline was met.

Second, the base’s army of several thousand soldiers would be mobilized.

Previously, they hadn’t acted because they had enough food and wanted the populace to overcome their fear of the mutant beasts on their own.

But now, with time being of the essence, everything was different.

In the corners of many cities, numerous mutant beasts still gathered in packs. Ordinary people would steer clear of such a Mutant Beast Group.

The base’s squads would be sent out specifically to eliminate these large-scale Mutant Beast Groups.

And third, it was time for the Spiritual Ability Users to take action.

After the cleanup from the first two stages, each Spirit Attribute Superpower User would lead a team of superpower users to sweep the entire city, ensuring no corner was left unchecked.

These three points constituted the most comprehensive plan they could devise.

Tang Mo nodded after listening but added another point: they could only cover the nearby cities. They didn’t have the resources to deal with areas farther away.

She suggested using helicopters to spread the news to as many distant places as possible.

The fact that mutant beasts could reproduce had to be kept strictly confidential. They feared people with malicious intent might exploit this information and pose a future threat.

However, the news that Exotic Beast Meat was edible should be announced to the world.

They could also add a piece of false information: that according to research, the mutant beasts would soon grow stronger, making now the best opportunity to hunt them.

The others in the conference room nodded repeatedly at Tang Mo’s words. The group then launched back into a heated discussion, trying to make the plan as perfect as possible.

Everything proceeded in an orderly fashion. Good news soon came from the laboratory: a simple, minor surgery was all it took to enable the mutant beasts to reproduce.

There was even better news that no one had expected. Through continuous experimentation, they discovered that the offspring of mutant beasts whose consciousness seas had been destroyed by Tang Mo were born docile. They had no aggression whatsoever and would not turn into Red-eyed Mutant Beasts.

The offspring born to Red-eyed Mutant Beasts were also docile at birth. There was only a chance they could turn into Red-eyed Mutant Beasts if subjected to extreme stimulation, but this possibility was extremely small.

In a litter of nearly twenty pups, at most only one would develop red eyes, and that was only if it was provoked.

This experimental result alleviated many of their previous worries. It seemed as if the offspring of the mutant beasts were naturally born to serve as food for humanity.

The other parts of the plan also proceeded very smoothly. Lured by the chance to exchange for more food, the public’s enthusiasm surged over the next three days, and long lines formed once again at the base’s gate.

Yang Ming also led his teams to exterminate one nest of mutant beasts after another, achieving remarkable results.

Seeing everything proceed so smoothly and perfectly, Tang Mo knew she would be able to leave very soon.
