Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 417: Chapter 407: Hoarding

A figure shot past on the street. The few pedestrians looked up in surprise at the speeding silhouette, but they couldn’t even make out the hem of its clothes, let alone its face.

They couldn’t help but sigh. Strange things happen every year, but this year was proving to be especially weird.

Tang Mo was running fast, so she’d deliberately chosen a market far from home. Besides, she was completely bundled up. ’If anyone can still recognize me as Xu Yin,’ she thought, ’that would be truly bizarre.’

The farmers’ market was about as crowded as usual. Although everyone knew the current weather was a bit strange and unsettling, and that they should probably be stocking up on some food...

...the exorbitant price of vegetables made them gamble. ’Maybe things are just a little rough right now,’ they thought. ’It’ll get better after a while.’

Tang Mo’s goal was quite clear: anything and everything fresh.

She wanted to buy more of both vegetables and meat. Her Space hadn’t been sealed off yet, so she didn’t have to worry about transportation.

Xu Yin’s bank card had a lot of money on it, and mobile payments were incredibly convenient these days. As for the PIN, Tang Mo, having completely inherited Xu Yin’s memories, naturally knew it.

Tang Mo bought a wide variety of vegetables and other foods at the market. Vegetables could be kept fresh in the refrigerator, but not for long, so Tang Mo just roughly estimated the size of her family’s fridge and bought what she thought would fit.

However, for things like potatoes, pumpkins, and carrots, which didn’t need refrigerator space and could be stored for a long time, Tang Mo bought a lot more—by the sackful.

As for meat, Tang Mo bought even more. After all, meat could be frozen, which meant it would last for a long time.

And besides the freezer compartment of their side-by-side refrigerator, her family also had a large chest freezer!

’Such a great asset...’

Thinking of the large freezer at home, Tang Mo quickly pulled out her phone, found a nearby appliance store, and arranged to have two more large freezers delivered to her house.

One freezer wasn’t enough. Three would be just barely right.

After all, storing things like frozen dumplings, wontons, and sweet rice balls in a freezer was just too convenient and perfect.

Tang Mo estimated the duration of this apocalypse. For three months, she was honestly storing way too much food. But the more the better. ’In an apocalypse, there’s no such thing as having too many supplies.’

Tang Mo was basically approaching this apocalypse with the relaxed mindset of being on vacation. No fighting, no starving—it was simply too pleasant for her.

’It’s only for three months. It’ll pass quickly.’

Now that she had bought two more freezers, she would need even more food. Not only that, but Tang Mo also spotted some cured meats and sausages at the market. ’This is all good stuff!’

Even without fresh vegetables or meat, just steaming some rice with a few slices of cured pork or sausage would be a delicacy.

’Right, rice!’

Tang Mo wracked her brain and finally remembered what she had forgotten: rice and flour.

’How could I have bought all this stuff and forgotten the most important staples?!’

Thankfully, she remembered now. It wasn’t too late. Otherwise, she really would have been kicking herself.

She quickly ordered twenty 50-kilogram bags of rice and another twenty 50-kilogram bags of white flour from the market, only then nodding in satisfaction.

She left her contact information and had the vendors deliver everything to a secluded corner she had already scouted out on her way there.

Once the items were delivered and the delivery people had all left, she moved everything into her Space.

On the way home, Tang Mo was still thinking, ’No wonder people aren’t panic-buying food yet in this environment. The prices are just too expensive.’

Although Tang Mo wasn’t short on money, she still paid attention to the prices while shopping. Everything was ridiculously expensive. If she didn’t know that money would soon be useless, her heart would have ached too much to buy anything.

Still, being from a family with some savings, these purchases were not enough to drain her accounts.

Tang Mo knew that after the three-month apocalypse passed, everything would return to normal. Soon, the balance in her bank account would once again transform from a string of numbers back into real, valuable currency.

Therefore, there was no need to senselessly squander the money in her card or the money belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Xu.

When Tang Mo got home, two large new freezers were already there, placed neatly next to the original one like three brothers.

Xu Jinsan, however, wore an expression that said he wanted to speak but was holding himself back.

He never would have imagined that after all the trouble he went through to get rid of the big freezer before, his daughter would turn around and buy two more.

’Really...’

Of course, Tang Mo knew what Xu Jinsan was thinking. She blinked her eyes innocently. ”These are special circumstances, aren’t they?”

’Fine.’

His own daughter was acting like this, so what could he say? Xu Jinsan could only reluctantly accept the two new members of the household.

”Mom, Dad, I bought a lot of stuff, and delivery people will be coming and going for a while. I don’t want them to disturb you, so why don’t you go watch some TV in your room?”

Tang Mo thought of a way to send Mr. and Mrs. Xu back to their room.

She needed to take all the food out of her Space, and naturally, she couldn’t do it in front of the couple.

This world’s acceptance of superpowers was even lower than the last one’s. If it wasn’t absolutely necessary, she would rather just have a quiet vacation. She had no desire to be mythologized into some legendary figure in this world.

Having been through so much, Tang Mo felt that after living through all sorts of days, being an ordinary person was the happiest life.

She had to admit, although she knew that this couple, Mr. and Mrs. Xu, would be so infuriatingly compassionate during the apocalypse, people like them were also the most obedient and easy to coax. Right now, they did almost anything Tang Mo said without a single objection, acting incredibly well-behaved.

Tang Mo first took ten bags of rice and flour, along with some sausages, potatoes, pumpkins, and other easily stored items, and put them in the small storage closet in her own room. After all, she didn’t fully trust Mr. and Mrs. Xu.

The two small storage closets, which were already quite full, were now completely packed after being stuffed with so many more things.

Satisfied, Tang Mo sealed the closets shut again with her spiritual power, then sorted and properly stored all the remaining items.

All the frozen goods went into the three large freezers, while the vegetables and fruits that needed to be kept fresh were arranged in the refrigerator.

Foods that didn’t need refrigeration were placed neatly in the kitchen, and any extra items were put in an empty space to be eaten soon.

After everything was properly arranged, Tang Mo took out her phone again and ordered some cakes, bread, and milk for delivery from several different shops.

These items had short shelf lives. Eating more sweets at the beginning of the apocalypse would be good for everyone’s morale.

Tang Mo had found the perfect excuse for her sweet tooth.
