Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 435: Chapter 425: The Plan

If what that girl in the group chat said was true, then everyone wanted to hold on a little longer. No one wanted to give up.

In that case, the only way to survive might be the food stash in the property management office.

It was just a robbery, wasn’t it?

Although none of them had ever done something like this, three heads were better than one. They had a general idea of how these things worked.

Besides, wasn’t there a saying? People who were fast learners could pick up anything quickly, and robbery was no exception.

As soon as the people in the group chat settled on this common goal, they began to plan their approach. The only way to know if it would work was to try it, after all.

Tang Mo watched the group members’ mindsets change so quickly and couldn’t help but sigh internally. ’No matter the era, humanity’s ability to adapt is its greatest strength.’

”Dad, the people in the community are saying they’re going to rob the property management office. What do you think?”

Tang Mo was extremely curious. What would Xu Jinsan, a man who always looked the very picture of kindness, think now that he was seeing people in the group chat discussing things that violated core socialist values?

But when she looked up, she couldn’t see Xu Jinsan.

”Dad?” Tang Mo called out again.

”Honey, where are those golf clubs I collected? Quick, find them for me. Those things are perfect for hitting people.”

Tang Mo never would have guessed. While she was worrying that Xu Jinsan was having an internal struggle, Xu Jinsan himself was already looking for a suitable weapon.

”Yinyin, Dad needs to have a word with you. How can you call this a robbery? This is called ’taking back what’s ours.’ We’re also persuading people to mend their ways and walk the righteous path. This is a good deed.”

Having found a suitable weapon, a satisfied Xu Jinsan began to patiently answer Tang Mo’s question.

Tang Mo looked at the hard golf club and nodded in agreement.

’My perspective was too narrow. A kind person is just kind, not a fool. He knows perfectly well what should and shouldn’t be done.’

Once everyone in the group chat was united by this central idea, things progressed very quickly.

They quickly analyzed the most advantageous attack route, strategic deployment, as well as the equipment, personnel, weapons, and division of labor.

Since Tao Jiayun was the first to propose the idea, he naturally became the commander-in-chief.

As for personnel, the original idea was for each household to send one man. If a family had no men, they’d be exempt, and it wouldn’t affect their share of the food later. After all, they were only dealing with four or five people, so they didn’t need that many. There was no need to force women and children to come out.

But as soon as this was proposed, many people in the group objected.

”What’s that? Looking down on women? You think I’m five-foot-nine for nothing?”

”Exactly! And I’m not 187 pounds of dead weight!”

It wasn’t that the women were trying to be contrarian at a time like this. No one wanted to go outside, but the food was right there. If they didn’t go, they had no confidence they’d get a share.

Besides, everyone had made their own assessment of the operation, and it really didn’t seem that dangerous.

Tao Jiayun’s original plan was to divide the food equally among everyone in the group once they got it. He had no selfish motives, so of course, the more people who came, the happier he was. He certainly wasn’t going to stop them.

And so, with everything ready, the operation was set for 10 PM that night.

There was no time like the present. The longer they delayed, the more likely something would go wrong. Besides, getting to eat a day sooner was what everyone was hoping for most.

”Dad, I’m going with you tonight.”

Tang Mo knew Xu Jinsan would definitely be going, and she had no reason to stop him.

To ensure his safety, she had to go with him.

”Yinyin, you’re a girl. Just stay home with your mother. Aren’t you confident with your dad on the job?”

Xu Jinsan gave the golf club in his hand a practiced swing.

He was in the prime of his life and in great shape. On top of that, Tang Mo had been subtly using her spiritual power to strengthen his body, and he had learned a few moves. Facing a minor skirmish like tonight’s, there was really nothing to worry about.

”Dad, of course I’m confident with you on the job. With your protection, just let me go and watch the fun. Please?”

Tang Mo sat next to Xu Jinsan, looking at him with pleading eyes.

Over this time, she had long since grasped the key to getting along with Xu Yin’s father: the man was susceptible to a soft approach, not a hard one. As long as you softened your attitude and asked nicely, there was almost nothing he wouldn’t agree to.

”You’re the best, Dad.”

Tang Mo played her trump card.

”Alright, but tonight you have to stay behind us. Don’t go to the front, you hear?”

How could Mr. Xu resist such pleading from his little treasure? He also remembered how his daughter had been leading him and his wife in exercises all this time. After a moment’s thought, he finally agreed.

Watching the father and daughter duo settle the matter so easily, Mrs. Xu could only shake her head and sigh, even though she didn’t like it. ’Forget it,’ she thought. ’I can’t control either of them.’

With a task ahead of them, everyone had a busy day.

Everyone did their best to fully arm themselves. They put on everything from knee pads and wrist guards to vests and undershirts. Many even wore motorcycle helmets for protection. You could say their protective measures were more than thorough.

The weapons they prepared were a motley collection: bowling pins, garden hoes and shovels, and even a collector’s antique blade. Truly, they had everything imaginable, bringing out anything and everything that might be useful.

Finally, everyone slung a backpack over their shoulder, inside of which were several large sacks, ready to carry the food back after their success.

Because they had something to do and something to look forward to, time passed quickly.

As everyone waited with bated breath, the sky finally darkened.

The group chat that Zhang Laohu was in was still carrying on with normal conversation; this was part of their strategy.

They had the usual chatty ”aunties” keep up their idle chatter in the group to lower the guard of Zhang Laohu’s people.

Meanwhile, everyone participating in the operation had gathered their things and begun heading out to assemble at the property management office.

The residential complex wasn’t actually small, but if they walked briskly or even ran, five minutes was enough to get to the property management office.

After all, the toxic fog was incredibly potent. No one dared to take any chances; every extra second spent outside meant another degree of danger.

”Yinyin, how come I don’t feel this toxic fog? Is this stuff really harmful to people?”

Xu Jinsan stepped outside, golf club in one hand, and looked at the fog that filled the sky.

The fog was a hazy black, a color that told you it was nothing good. But how could it be that he didn’t feel a thing?
