Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 431: Chapter 421: A New Idea

Of course, Tang Mo knew which two children Xu Jinsan was talking about. They were the little girls, just over two years old, that Wen Qianli had left behind.

’It’s been a whole day and night. The children are so young... I wonder how they’re doing now.’

Tang Mo said nothing. After drinking some hot water, she went back to her room and lay down on the bed again.

She knew what Mr. Xu was implying. While feeding two more children wouldn’t be a problem for them right now, she didn’t want to encourage this kind of behavior from him.

’Today, it’s bringing home two kids. Tomorrow, it might be three seniors, and the day after, a few stray animals. If this goes on, what will our home turn into?’

This time, Tang Mo was here to handle things. In the previous life, however, it had been Xu Yin. It was precisely this kind of thinking and behavior from Mr. Xu that had led to the family’s tragic fate.

Tang Mo felt this was a precedent she couldn’t set.

But even though she had already made up her mind, she lay in bed under the covers, unable to fall asleep.

Before she died, Wen Qianli often posted short videos of her daughters in the group chat. Tang Mo would sometimes watch them. They really were two adorable little bundles.

’No, no. Xu Jinsan’s sentimentality must be rubbing off on me. Why am I starting to think about such useless things?’

’This is the apocalypse. It’s a feat just to stay alive. Who has the mental energy for anything else?’

Tang Mo shook her head hard, trying to fling away all the unwelcome thoughts that had suddenly surfaced.

The next time Tang Mo woke up, it was already noon. To conserve their rations, the Xu Family was now eating only two meals a day: one at noon and one in the evening.

Since they were just staying at home and not expending much energy, it was just enough, and they didn’t feel hungry.

Tang Mo stretched and went out for her meal.

At the dining table, Xu Jinsan was still looking listless, his eyes darting toward a family photo propped up on the side.

The photo had been taken when Xu Yin was three, during a trip to an amusement park with Mr. and Mrs. Xu.

”Hurry up and eat, or it will get cold.”

Mrs. Xu put some food on Xu Jinsan’s plate.

”Time really flies. In the blink of an eye, our Yinyin is all grown up.”

Xu Jinsan pulled his gaze away from the photo frame and looked at Xu Yin, his eyes filled with fatherly love.

”Dad, why didn’t you and Mom ever think of giving me a younger brother or sister?”

To distract Xu Jinsan, Tang Mo started making small talk.

It was a genuine question, though. After all, a family with the Xu Family’s financial standing wouldn’t typically have only one child.

Furthermore, Mrs. Xu was a homemaker with no career of her own, so she had more than enough time to care for kids.

”After you were born, your mom’s health was never quite the same. It wasn’t a good idea for her to have another child.”

Xu Jinsan and his wife had a very loving relationship. He was already content with having Xu Yin, and while he would have liked another child, he wasn’t willing to sacrifice his wife’s health for it.

”Oh, so that’s why.”

As Tang Mo ate, her heart sank.

She’d never considered it might be due to Mrs. Xu’s health. She had always assumed they were afraid of having to divide their affection, since both of them doted on their daughter, Xu Yin, so completely.

This threw a major wrench in Tang Mo’s plans.

Her original plan was to leave after three months, assuming Mr. and Mrs. Xu could have another child later on. After all, they both took such good care of themselves and looked quite young for their age.

Tang Mo didn’t know much about childbirth. She had witnessed Lin Yi give birth to Yangyang, so she had subconsciously assumed it was a simple affair.

But it wasn’t that simple at all. A woman over forty, even one who has given birth before, is considered a high-risk pregnancy. The dangers are already significant. If her physical condition is even slightly poor, she would be risking her very Life.

Tang Mo had no experience with this and didn’t understand the risks. If she had, she would have tried her best to stop Lin Yi back then, to convince her to give up the idea of having another baby.

But it was clear now that Mrs. Xu couldn’t have another child. ’This means that after I leave in three months, this couple will likely spend the rest of their lives alone.’

Perhaps...

’Perhaps the appearance of Wen Qianli’s two children at this very moment was truly fate.’

”You two are just alike. Neither of you are eating properly. I wonder what’s on your minds.”

Seeing that her daughter was also starting to zone out, Mrs. Xu gave Tang Mo a light tap on the head.

In the dead of night, Tang Mo was wide awake. Having slept the whole morning, she wasn’t the least bit tired. She had truly caught up on all her sleep recently.

She was already dressed and ready. There was something important she had to do.

Before Wen Qianli went to find that nanny, she had left her home address in the group chat. She was afraid that if anything happened to her, her two daughters would at least have a slim chance of survival.

Tang Mo glanced at the address. It was in the building right next to her own.

She slipped out of the apartment quietly, careful not to wake Mr. and Mrs. Xu.

’It’s been almost two days, after all. Who knows if the kids are even still alive?’

Tang Mo had a plan. If the children were alive, she would bring them back for Mr. and Mrs. Xu to raise. After these three months, the world would return to normal anyway. Given the Xu Family’s circumstances, raising two more children wouldn’t be an issue.

Besides, the children were orphans, and they were adorable. It would be hard to find such ideal children even in an orphanage. They would be perfect for Mr. and Mrs. Xu to raise as their own daughters.

The children’s father had never even met them, acting as if they didn’t exist.

The children’s mother was dead, and Wen Qianli had previously mentioned that she was no longer in contact with her own family.

At the time, nobody in the group had dared to ask why. Looking back now, they probably disowned her because they knew she’d had a child while wrecking someone else’s family.

Children like that, with no family ties, were the ideal candidates for adoption.

Besides, at two years old, they were too young to have any lasting memories.

If the Xu Family really did raise them, it would be a blessing for the two children.

This was the first time Tang Mo had left the building and walked into the fog. She didn’t even activate her Protective Shield.

After all, while the poisonous fog was harmful, an ordinary person could withstand it for about ten minutes. For Tang Mo, whose body had been enhanced multiple times, it was even less of a concern.

Tang Mo reached out her hand, feeling the fog. She grew even more certain that this was the same poisonous fog that had appeared during the first six months in her own world.

The only fortunate difference was that this fog didn’t contain any mutant beasts.

So, in this world, once the poisonous fog cleared, peace would be restored. It wasn’t like her world, where the fog’s dissipation only plunged the world into an even more terrifying Hell.

’But if it’s the exact same fog, why will it disappear in three months in this world, when it took six months in mine?’

The reason was actually quite simple: human intervention.

The apocalypse in this world had given people enough warning, allowing the authorities to make ample preparations. That’s why utilities like water, electricity, and the internet were still running, and it was also why the poisonous fog would clear more quickly.
