Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 430: Chapter 420: Mutual Destruction

You make friends by being kind to others. That way, someone might be there to lend you a hand when you fall on hard times.

But clearly, this nanny was not an easy person to get along with.

She was now living under someone else’s roof, but because she had brought more supplies, she made things difficult for her housemate at every turn. She was sharp-tongued and hurtful, and resentment had long since festered between them.

Now that a real crisis had erupted, the housemate was secretly gloating. Why would she possibly offer help?

Besides, Wen Qianli, her face covered in blood, looked like a demon. No one without a ride-or-die bond would dare go near her.

The housemate had locked her door tight. The food was the last thing on her mind.

She wasn’t thinking about the food at all. She just wanted the two of them to finish fighting and give her some peace and quiet.

After all, they were fighting to the death. If her housemate died, that woman would surely take all the food.

But if her housemate won...

The woman hiding behind the door shivered. ’It’s over,’ she thought. ’If my housemate wins, knowing her personality, she’ll definitely get revenge on me for not helping.’

’I’d better pray the axe woman wins.’

Perhaps her prayers were answered, because the nanny outside soon began to lose the upper hand.

After all, no matter how strong you are, how could you not be terrified when you realize your opponent is trying to kill you?

Once fear took hold, her movements became frantic. The axe began to land on her body, again and again.

The living room was a wreck, the floor covered in blood. By now, it was impossible to tell who had bled more.

The nanny, having lost too much blood, had collapsed to the floor, unable to stand. But her arms were still locked around Wen Qianli’s neck, and she used her last ounce of strength to hold on.

’I’ve struggled so hard to live until now. If I’m going to die, you’re coming with me.’

The nanny’s thick arms were a stark contrast against Wen Qianli’s pale neck.

Wen Qianli struggled for her life, but the strength of a dying person is terrifying. She couldn’t break free no matter what she did.

Gradually, Wen Qianli’s struggles weakened. Her face turned purple from lack of air. Her arms went rigid, then slowly fell to her sides. She could no longer hold the axe she had been gripping so tightly. It fell to the floor with a THUD.

The nanny felt Wen Qianli’s body go limp in her arms. Only then did she finally let out a breath, slumping completely to the floor, never to rise again.

If they were taken to a hospital at this moment, they might have had a chance. But that was obviously impossible...

And so, two lives slipped away in a lavish, European-style living room. The blood on the carpet was a horrific, vivid red.

Even after the sounds died down, the woman hiding in her room didn’t dare to come out. She huddled on her bed, wrapping herself tightly in her blanket.

***

Night fell, and the group chat was quiet.

Everyone was silently waiting for something. They were waiting for Wen Qianli to appear in the chat again.

Even Zhang Laohu, who had been gloating in the group all this time, was as quiet as a mouse.

After all, he was waiting for the appointed time to see the drama unfold.

When 10 p.m. arrived and Wen Qianli still hadn’t appeared in the chat, people started to get anxious.

Someone started @-ing Wen Qianli. No response.

Then they @-ed Flowers Along the Way. Still no response.

’What’s going on? Why aren’t either of them responding?’

p.m.

[Zhang Laohu]: Damn, that woman was vicious when she snapped. They’re both dead. Holy hell, a woman’s heart really is the most venomous.

Apparently, the nosy Zhang Laohu had gone to the nanny’s house to take a look.

’They’re both dead?’

Everyone was shocked. Even now in the apocalypse, none of them had truly faced death head-on.

”Don’t believe that liar Zhang Laohu! Maybe they’re still arguing and don’t have time to check their phones!”

Since he had a history of lying, no one in the group believed Zhang Laohu.

It was hard to say if they truly didn’t trust him, or if they subconsciously just didn’t want to believe it.

Seeing everyone start to attack him again, an indignant Zhang Laohu directly posted a picture.

It was a gruesome, bloody image. The two women lying in a pool of blood were clearly dead.

The nanny, who hadn’t been completely dead before, had bled out while lying helpless on the floor, bidding farewell to this not-so-beautiful world.

As everyone stared at the picture, many with weaker stomachs immediately threw up.

Now, they had no choice but to believe it. Both sides had lost; there were no victors in this war.

When the snipe and the clam grapple, the fisherman profits.

”Hahahahahahaha, I didn’t expect a windfall! I’ll just be taking these things off their hands.”

Zhang Laohu had found several bags of food in the house’s kitchen. It was the joint property of the dead nanny and her housemate, but now it had clearly changed owners.

Zhang Laohu knocked on the tightly shut door. When he found it locked, he gave up. He knew someone was hiding inside and there might be more supplies, but this was a murder scene. Staying too long was starting to give him the creeps.

At the end of the day, Zhang Laohu was just a security captain. He’d done plenty of scummy things, but he’d never had blood on his hands.

”You bastard! That mother traded her life for that food for her two children! You took it, so how are those kids supposed to survive?”

”Yeah, Wen Qianli has two little girls at home...”

The thought of those two-year-old toddlers made a wave of sadness wash over everyone.

In this apocalyptic environment, without their mother’s protection, how could those two children possibly survive?

[Zhang Laohu]: What the hell does that have to do with me? They’re not my kids. If any of you are so virtuous, you can take them in and raise them. Stop being keyboard saints.

The two little girls were still at home, waiting for their mother to return with food. But their mother would never be coming back.

Before, gaining two children out of the blue would have been a blessing from the heavens.

But now, every household was tightening its belt to get by. Who could afford to take on two more children?

Even if you took them in, you’d have no food to feed them. Were you supposed to just stand by and watch them starve?

It was better not to get involved at all.

Natural selection, survival of the fittest.

This phrase suddenly echoed in many people’s minds.

No one refuted Zhang Laohu’s words this time. The group chat fell silent once more.

The drama in the group chat was finally over. It was now the middle of the night.

Tang Mo put down his phone and went to sleep.

「The next morning」Tang Mo woke up very early. Thirsty, he went to the living room to get some hot water, only to find Xu Jinsan sitting alone on the sofa, staring into space, lost in thought.

”Dad, what are you thinking about? Did you get scared yesterday?”

Tang Mo wondered if Xu Jinsan had been frightened by the picture Zhang Laohu posted, worried it might have caused him some lasting shock. He quickly asked about it.

”It’s nothing. I was just... I was just wondering what happened to those two children.”
