Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 418: Chapter 408: It Has Begun

Then she spent a long time browsing the food delivery app, ordering a bunch of things she liked to eat.

It wasn’t anything particularly special—just some barbecue, malatang, spicy duck necks, and other snacks. But Tang Mo hadn’t eaten these things in so long that just looking at them made her mouth water. She couldn’t help but sigh with emotion once again. ’Being able to come to *this* version of the apocalypse is such a blessing.’

In truth, the life of Xu Yin’s family of three was quite simple. Xu Yin’s days were filled with nothing but work, leaving her too busy to even think about dating.

Xu Jinsan owned a company of a modest size, while Mrs. Xu was a homemaker.

Although the Xu Family lived well, they weren’t deeply wealthy. After all, Xu Jinsan was a first-generation entrepreneur who had come from a small town, and Mrs. Xu was just a local university graduate who had settled into the role of a devoted wife and mother after marriage.

Fortunately, none of the three were particularly materialistic. With a driver and a maid, and occasionally helping out relatives, their life was quite comfortable.

Munching on a skewer, Tang Mo re-analyzed how the Xu Family’s tragedy in the last life had come about, step by step.

While it was certainly related to Mr. and Mrs. Xu’s soft-hearted nature, they had still been dealt a good hand. And with a clear-headed person like Xu Yin around, how did things end up so badly?

Tang Mo went over it again and again in her head, and she finally pinpointed the key issue.

It was that Xu Yin’s personality was simply too rigid. Xu Yin already had a rather cold disposition to begin with. After the apocalypse began, her overwhelming desire to ensure her parents’ survival made her even colder.

She had not an ounce of spare sympathy for anyone besides herself and her parents.

That in itself wasn’t wrong, but she lacked a certain finesse.

No matter how much Mr. and Mrs. Xu loved their daughter, they ultimately couldn’t agree with her philosophy. So, despite Xu Yin’s constant lecturing and criticism, they secretly continued to do as they pleased, doing many things that made her want to cough up blood from sheer anger.

Tang Mo felt immense sympathy in her heart. She understood Xu Yin’s feelings all too well. It was just that when your methods aren’t tactful enough, that sense of urgency can become an obstacle rather than a driving force.

After finishing her analysis, Tang Mo decided on her strategy: this time, she wouldn’t take a hard-line approach.

As Xu Jinsan’s beloved daughter, she would go along with them. ’She’d like to see how they could possibly fail to survive these three months!’

Tang Mo set a goal for herself. ’Never mind anything else, the two warehouses I have hidden away have enough food to last this family of three for a year, let alone three months.’

The goal Tang Mo set for herself was to get angry as little as possible during these three months.

’Get angry as little as possible, have the happiest vacation possible.’ This was Tang Mo’s requirement for herself in this Illusion Realm.

After eating and drinking her fill, Tang Mo locked the door from the inside and told Mr. and Mrs. Xu not to go out the next morning, as she had something important to tell them.

In reality, Tang Mo didn’t have anything important to say. She was just afraid of an accident, that Xu Jinsan and his wife might run outside.

However, in her last life, the world was already enveloped in a poisonous fog by midnight. Even if they had wanted to go out in the morning, it would have been impossible.

Tang Mo lay on Xu Yin’s large bed, her heart completely at peace. She closed her eyes blissfully and had a good, long sleep.

While the Xu Family slept soundly that night, the world quietly underwent many changes, both visible and invisible.

Everything, once clear, was suddenly shrouded in a fog that seemed to seep out from nowhere, making the world hazy. ℴℴ𝘮

But this haze was far from benign; it could devour all Life.

People who were still out late walking on the streets felt a discomfort in their throats. Even in the dark of night, they knew it had something to do with the strange fog, and they all hurried to find safety indoors.

And miraculously, it was as if the fog had Life. It didn’t flow into sealed spaces or even into buildings with open windows.

Even in the many homes where people slept with their windows open, the fog right outside remained completely unaffected. Not even the wind could blow it inside.

Tang Mo woke up very early the next day. The first thing she did after sitting up was open the window to check the situation outside.

Sure enough, the fog appeared before her eyes, just as she had expected.

Tang Mo understood. She got dressed and went to the living room.

Mr. and Mrs. Xu, who were always early risers, were already fully dressed and sitting on the sofa, watching the TV with worried expressions.

A news program was on. The host was standing next to a window, pointing at the thick fog outside as she explained its dangers to the audience.

The fog had appeared suddenly late last night. It contained not only suffocating gases but also toxic ones. An ordinary person couldn’t last more than a few minutes in it, and yet, overnight, the entire world had become filled with this strange fog.

The host was highly professional; her face showed no trace of panic.

But Tang Mo was curious. ’If it appeared late last night, how did this host manage to appear on screen this morning with her hair and makeup perfectly done?’

’Did she sleep at the TV station? Or did she lug all the camera equipment home with her?’

All of this confirmed one thing: the higher-ups had foreseen this situation and were even fully prepared for it.

Utilities like water and electricity, as well as communications, were all still running perfectly, completely unaffected. This made the apocalyptic environment seem a little less unsettling and terrifying.

”Our daughter really has foresight. She bought so much food to stock up at home yesterday. Otherwise, I really don’t know how we would have gone out to buy groceries. I wonder if this fog will disappear by tonight.”

Mrs. Xu looked at the weather outside, her heart filled with worry.

Tang Mo shook her head. ’Tonight? It’s probably not going to disappear for the next three months.’

Tang Mo sat on the sofa with Mr. and Mrs. Xu, watching TV while also scrolling through her phone. All her social media feeds were being flooded by the strange phenomenon that morning. Every trending topic was about this one event.

Perhaps because life was no different from usual, aside from not being able to go outside, people’s moods were relatively stable.

Many workers and students were even celebrating another day off.

Everyone thought the fog would dissipate soon—today, or tomorrow at the latest.

But a few truly far-sighted people were already shaking their heads and sighing behind their screens. ’This matter isn’t nearly as simple as everyone thinks.’

Tang Mo found the comments online quite amusing and kept scrolling, wanting to see what other interesting things people would say.

As she was looking, a notification from a work group chat popped up on her phone. Tang Mo tapped on it to read.

It was a notice from her boss. Since employees couldn’t leave their homes to come to the office, everyone was instructed to work from home.
