Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 425: Chapter 415: The Joy of Helping Others

At the time, Xu Jinsan had been deeply traumatized. He later became more and more extreme, no longer willing to listen to Xu Yin and instead helping his relatives without restraint.

’The shock from that photo must have been immense. He was probably terrified of a repeat tragedy.’

In any case, from that incident onward, a rift had formed between the father and daughter. As a result, Xu Jinsan would no longer listen to any of Xu Yin’s subsequent attempts to dissuade him.

This time, however, Tang Mo wasn’t going to do things Xu Yin’s way.

Tang Mo had always been one to work smart, not hard. Although she had accumulated considerable strength over time, it was always best to accomplish the most with the least amount of effort.

Of course, this was also thanks to the massive amount of food Tang Mo had stockpiled. With plenty of provisions in storage, there was no reason to panic.

If her family were truly so destitute that they didn’t have enough to eat, she would be far more ruthless than Xu Yin ever was.

The family of three worked together, picking and choosing items, and eventually put together a small package.

Inside was fever medicine, a piece of meat, a kilogram of rice, two potatoes, and a can of milk powder.

Tang Mo had retrieved the milk powder from her own room. Having been through this once before, she knew exactly how crucial milk powder was in an era of famine. That was why she had once again stocked up on quite a lot of it in her little storeroom.

Even if their fevers broke, two-year-old children probably couldn’t survive on just that little bit of food.

But a can of milk powder would make a difference. It might help them hold on for a few more days.

Xu Jinsan and his wife hadn’t expected their daughter, who had seemed so cold and unfeeling at first, to actually be so soft-hearted.

They actually knew their daughter had some things stored in her room. Of course, it was because Xu Jinsan’s usual behavior made her so uneasy that she kept an emergency food supply.

But they never thought Xiao Yin would be willing to share it. ’Just as I thought, our daughter takes after us after all!’

Xu Jinsan’s face was filled with relief and pride. He and Mrs. Xu both gazed lovingly at Tang Mo.

Their stares made Tang Mo’s skin crawl. She even began to regret being so generous.

Then again, she had dozens of boxes of milk powder stockpiled. Taking out a single can wasn’t a big deal for her.

Once the small package was ready, Tang Mo placed it by the entrance. Then, with the door open, the family of three squatted by the doorway, waiting for someone to come pick it up.

They just couldn’t feel at ease. After all, in the current environment, leaving a package like this at the door was no different from leaving a million in cash on your doorstep back in the day.

As for why they were squatting...

Well, that was naturally Tang Mo’s doing. She had simply been too lazy to get a stool. Who would have thought that when Xu Jinsan and his wife saw her squatting, they would both squat down beside her, creating a bizarre and amusing scene.

The person coming to get the items had followed the address left in the group chat. The moment the elevator doors opened, he was greeted by the strange sight: three people squatting in a row by their doorway, staring at him with a small package placed in front of them.

Mrs. Xu, however, was a bit embarrassed to be seen by a stranger. She was the first to stand up, greeting him and confirming his identity with poise and grace.

To prevent anyone from falsely claiming the items, the property manager had already sent out the information of the young man who would be ”picking up the packages” in the group chat.

Tang Mo looked at the man’s face but didn’t recognize him at all.

’That makes sense,’ she thought. ’There are so many property management staff, and Xu Yin was always out early and back late. It’s normal that she wouldn’t have met him.’

But judging by their reactions, Xu Jinsan and his wife were clearly seeing this young man for the first time too...

Tang Mo took another careful look. The man before them was dressed roughly, and judging by his hands, he was someone who did manual labor.

The staff at a high-end property like this usually wore suits and ties and worked in offices. This man didn’t fit that description.

His face, however, did match the photo the property manager had sent in the group chat.

’Maybe he’s some kind of repairman,’ she mused. Xu Jinsan and his wife, however, had no suspicions at all and handed the package to the man.

The young man glanced at the package. It started as a quick scan, but his eyes became glued to the can of milk powder visible through the transparent bag.

Milk powder... that was a real treasure.

The greed in the man’s eyes was too intense. Tang Mo frowned and offered a reminder.

Having inherited Xu Yin’s memories, she knew about the shady business that would follow. This milk powder was something she had specifically taken out for those two children; it couldn’t fall into someone else’s hands.

”I’m not sure if those two little girls are used to this brand of milk powder. Once it’s delivered, I’ll have to ask their mother in the group chat. After all, it’s for the children, so we can’t be too careful.”

Hearing Tang Mo’s words, the greed in the man’s eyes receded. He understood the meaning behind her statement.

”Of course. Don’t you worry. With something this good, I guarantee I’ll get it into the owner’s hands as fast as possible.”

With that, the young man took the elevator down to continue collecting items from other donors.

”What a good person, going out trip after trip when it’s so dangerous.”

Xu Jinsan remarked with emotion as he watched the young man’s departing back. In times like these, there was almost no reason other than kindness for someone to do such things.

Tang Mo, however, watched the elevator doors close with a profound expression on her face.

These days, every household was trapped at home. Although they had internet and television, the lack of outdoor activities meant a severe shortage of entertainment. As a result, the residents’ group chat gradually became everyone’s main social hub.

The group, once full of elites who kept to themselves, was now being forced by circumstances to find amusement in the chat.

A crowd of former strangers began to shoot the breeze in the group, the topics of conversation broadening until many even started making friends there.

Tang Mo had muted the group long ago, only checking it occasionally. Otherwise, the constant notifications from morning to night would have driven her mad.

Mrs. Xu was having a great time in there too. As a housewife with a small social circle, she had even made some ”sisters” in the group. They all promised to meet up in person once the ”garbage fog” disappeared.

Since they couldn’t meet in person, they could still play mahjong online and vent to each other.

As a man, Xu Jinsan couldn’t be bothered to participate in such things and rarely spoke in the chat. However, he secretly followed every message, looking nothing like the company president he was.

The few families who had received aid began posting pictures of the food that had been delivered by property management and collected from everyone’s donations.

Tang Mo clicked on the photo Wen Qianli had posted and immediately spotted the can of milk powder she had sent. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂

Wen Qianli even made a special point to thank the person who sent the milk powder in the group, saying it was a huge help. Then, very savvily, she posted a short video of her two babies obediently drinking the milk powder after their fevers had broken from the medicine, making all the middle-aged women in the group gush over how cute the children were.

They were indeed cute. Two-year-olds are at their most playful age, and what’s more, the two children had inherited their mother’s excellent genes. They were two delicate, rosy-cheeked little dumplings.

Seeing the recipients post these updates, everyone in the group felt relieved. They also experienced the joy of helping others, and it seemed they weren’t so opposed to providing aid anymore.

Everyone appeared happy and harmonious, as if the world would be at peace by tomorrow.
